Nearly five years later, what are your honest thoughts on it?
Nearly five years later, what are your honest thoughts on it?
too many useless augs, too easy to play without augs entirely. those are the only major flaws it has though, it is a solid 8/10.
I liked it. It could've been better but it was good.
>those are the only major flaws it has
>no proper melee (shitty TPS cutscene takedowns insstead)
>tiny HUBs
>that last fucking level
A genuinely amazing game. It's in my top 5, and it's a good 9-9.5/10 for me. Honestly one of my favorite stories in games, and the aesthetic is one I thoroughly enjoy.
I really liked it, it wasn't a part of my top 10 but it was really good. I've even bought it multiple times because the console controls are utter fucking shit.
Good game. I'd have liked a Canadian and Upper Hengsha Hubs (to bad they were cut). Missing Link DLC in the director's cut messes with the pace of the game.
railroaded towards stealth, but still a lot of fun, one of the few cases where the director's cut makes the game worse
I quit after the first boss. Just didn't hold my attention.
It's a dumb game pretending to be a smart game.
It's really rigid and limited compared to the original when it should be the other way around.
It was a decent return to form, it really could've been alot worse. The game doesn't make lethal runs very fun though, and the story turns to dildoes pretty fast.
>ADDAAAAAAM, IT'S THE ILLUMINATTI I TELL YOU
>He hasn't got the TRUE ending of Human Revolution
those are flaws but i wouldn't call them major, didn't bother me at least. the augs are a major flaw because that's what the gameplay was designed around, yet you can still play through all of the levels and access a significant amount of "secret" content without having any.
It was pretty decent.
and the upcoming one will be a bit better I think so I'm looking forward to it.
Shame about the takedowns being cut to black and third person stuff, but oh well
it was good, i liked it
mankind divided looks like trash though
It was good, not great. First game still blows it out of the water.
Thought it was fucking great, though I hope the sequel isn't just a retread.
This, apart from the non-lethal approach to bosses, missing link was a chore and quite boring
thats one of the central themes of deus ex though. why would they change that
Kek, Fuck that Ho though
>The game doesn't make lethal runs very fun though
All these cool looking augs and futuristic weapons and the best way to fight things is just to shoot everyone in the head with the starting pistol while occasionally using a cinematic takedown or grenade.
Rambo playthroughs were lame as hell and you'd think that would have been the easiest thing to improve from the original.
Very enjoyable as a game, nut also gets tenouttaten for its artistic qualities.
What was the job description on Jensen's contract after becoming a cyborg? Corporate thug/merc or something?
Officially I think he was still head of security.
Having replayed it recently, I can say it's pretty fun.
One thing that kinda bothered me was how the pistol made every other weapon pretty much useless. Shame too, because it Human Revolution had amazing weapon design.
The battery system kinda sucks though. Why isn't there a single store that has a lot of those energy bars? You'd think they would be everywhere.
Killing everyone you meet is fun as fuck
Just finished it yesterday. Pretty good, despite some notable flaws, especially in comparison to the original.
But I grabbed it, Bioshock, and AssCreed II in the steam sale, and I'm starting to wonder if there has been a big western title in recent history that actually had a final level, final boss, and endings that weren't shit.
>One thing that kinda bothered me was how the pistol made every other weapon pretty much useless.
The shotgun is fucking goat
It's bullshit how a basic pistol outright smokes a huge minigun that requires multiple augs and weapon mods to even wield effectively.
Another thing I could have done without is the cinematic takedowns. After a while they become a chore. I was hoping they'd take note from Dishonored, but sadly the cinematic takedowns are still in.
>I'm starting to wonder if there has been a big western title in recent history that actually had a final level, final boss, and endings that weren't shit
New Vegas
I just used the submachine pistol (later rifle as it began to suck) and the sniper rifle to add some variety. But yes, the pistol was deadly with some patience.
Its a mediocre game mostly known for its name and being a passable modern stealth game
That said, it super vent crawling and the cover system is awkward so the stealth isn't even that good. Also the cinematic takedowns stopping time is dumb as fuck
I don't know how good it is, but I do like the design
Mediocre, its way too broken
Free XP for almost anything, really easy no matter how you play, awful plot, bad IA, clunky mechanics, money is pointless...
On the good side, the cities are great, is quite cool moving around looking for secrets, talking to people and doing side quest but the game gets fucked up as soon as enemies show up
I didn't even bother to finish it, i drop it after meeting Eliza
So I know pretty much everyone likes the story and writing better in the original Deus Ex.
But no one really talks about the other aspects - stealth, shoothing, hacking etc.
I played a little of the original Deus Ex (the tutorial plus the first mission) but it didn't really manage to grab me. Everything just felt weird and awkward to control.
I was hoping that all the 3rd person shit would be player controlled in the new one now that the devs have more horsepower to work with but it looks like it isn't the case.
Nothing sucks the fun out of a cool concept like turning it into a cinematic takedown.
You get more XP for crawling through vents then you do for figuring out how to kill a warehouse full of enemies. So much for being a thinking man's shooter.
A very good game with some flaws. Cinematic takedowns, cut content like an actual Montreal and Upper Hengsha hub, badly designed boss fights were most of my issues with it. Still an 8/10 in my book, probably my personal GOTY back in 2011.
Original still easily blows it out of the water though.
>neo-Sup Forums likes human revolution
>the fucking game that ruined the series forever and paved the way for them to retcon and forget the first game
Fucking millennials.
Were you born between 1985 and 2000? Then you are a millennial.
People do talk about the other aspects, the essential abandonment of melee and RPG elements being one of them. That and the pigeonholing into stealth and hacking. A JC who is geared for combat is much more fun to play than Jensen with combat augs, especially in the late game.
Everybody gives up after Liberty Island, which is unfortunate. The game really grabbed me in Hong Kong, which is a few levels later though I guess I can't blame you for not investing the time into it.
:^)
you stopped playing before Omega Ranch, you missed the best part of the game.
Shit. I forgot for a minute who was Paul.
I liked it.
Completely unrelated but someone kill me, please.
>complain about newfags
>post frog meme
irony
>Thinks people are genuine in fucking Sup Forums polls
I always vote what pisses off most, I see it's working :^)
it felt more like a weak successor to VtMB than Deus Ex.
>implying this result doesn't accurately reflect Sup Forums all the same
:^)
still on my backlog.
Yellow filter
I liked the original and HR. I don't find IW a terrible unplayable mess.
The Fall, however, may suck a bag of dicks.
So you didn't get past Liberty Island? That's basically like quitting Human Revolution during the prologue.
>HR was 5 years ago.
What the fuck? It took them half a decade to make a sequel?
They haven't been working on anything else have they?
How different would have been Deus Ex's series had Invisible War turned up to be good?
The graphics really let it down. But the worst part was really the bosses. Otherwise, the smallish hubs and reuse of both was kind of meh.
Thief 4, The Fall, The Missing Link
Considering they moved over to a new engine and had to design shitloads of new stuff, it makes sense.
Really good. The XP system was a bit easy to game, the ending buttons were complete shit, and it gets super dragassy playing on hardest difficulty stealth, but still a great time.
On the fluff side I never felt like it gelled really well with the Deus Ex setting, but it still felt like a Deus Ex game and I didn't really care all that much about the fluff.
Invisible War is better than Human Revolution.
I loved it.
You know how I know you weren't here for the original release of this game?
It was shit and the amount of hacking mini-game I had to go through made me quit and never look back
Honestly it seemed pretty generic to play as a shooter with full combat augs, I never felt compelled to play full stealth either since it felt like they ported over the exact same shit you could hack in the original. The idea of having to hack everything with the same interface got tedious enough opening doors, I feel like with a little more effort they could have added more hacking minigames considering the lengths they went to for all the sidequests in the game.
there are only a few things you have to hack, and they're all a very easy level 1 hack. there's lots of passwords for computer terminals on those PDA things that you can find. you won't be able to unlock all of the computers without hacking but you can find the passwords for most of them.
Isn't Thief 4 by their other team?
Augs system was flawed because it were mostly passives due to console controller limitation.
casualized deus ex, awful last level, average bosses, worse level design than the original
takedowns are cancer
Good but far from great.
I liked it but the visuals were a mess. But definitely best game of 2011. A decent reboot too, going against the best game ever made is not easy.
All casuals stop at Liberty Island. It's kind of amazing how useless some people are without incredible hand holding, Deus Ex is not even a hard game.
The worst part about takedowns is that they required nothing to learn, ammo regenerated itself and was one hit kill on ANY enemy.
If there was some sort of Auging up required to fight later enemies, it would have sense but all enemies in HR were just dudes in armor.
At least new one looks like will add new enemy types.
My only problem with HR is that augs were too easy to get; unlike other games in the series you just got them for free and could have every aug you wanted pretty much, no choice per limb system
That's not a real choice and means instead of unlocking one path and choosing to base your gameplay around it, you unlock all paths and take the route that appeals to you most at the time
I despise the 3rd person cover shit they're introduced with the HR style series. Deus Ex didn't need that.
3rd person cover stealth is too goddamn easy. Lean with the enemies noticing when you peek could be exciting, but as it turned out, you just go from cover to cover seeing where everyone is due to this feature.
Fists and arm blades should've just been selectable weapons used in first person, imo. Perhaps with arm blades being an upgrade.
Worst part is that you can't play like in old DX because there is no lean button and while just crouching Jensens hitbox is still bigger than while vaulting.
Oh shut up you fag. The old deus ex games were shit and boring as fuck and I didn't even have to play them.
The only good thing about deus ex is the boxart.
Are you OP trying to bait up your thread?
That too, I tried to play without 3rd person cover but enemies noticed I was crouching behind walls that if I used them as cover, they wouldn't be able to.
Now with Mankind Divided, they're showing tons of footage of 3rd person cover stealth over and over, there's even a "aim at cover and press X to automatically go there" feature now, fuck you Eidos Montreal.
This. I did non-lethal save for the bosses on which I used the shotgun and a fully upgraded shotty will fucking dissolve them before your very eyes. And because it was non-lethal I always had shit loads of ammo.
...
>I didn't play them
>they're shit
kys
they shared a lot of staff
They're outdated and have shit graphics
Literally no style compared to HR.
I hope they remake DE1 in this engine because I would buy it.
Didn't finish it. Couldn't get past Jensens terrible voice acting. They should have gotten a guy with a a naturally gruff voice.
oh man you're not even trying
jjb shouldn't you be working on Mankind Divided
>>Now with Mankind Divided, they're showing tons of footage of 3rd person cover stealth over and over, there's even a "aim at cover and press X to automatically go there" feature now, fuck you Eidos Montreal.
This actually scares me.
They think people are stupid enough to not walk straight.
>first post wasn't "i never asked for this"
smdh
I don't need to try you nigger. Maybe you don't understand but most deus ex fans love HR. It's great game and I hate OG deus ex shitters complain about it.
The guy that does his voice sounds like that normally, so his voice is naturally "gruff"
But I kinda see what you mean; even though I loved his voice acting.
you're a very insecure person if you can't handle people criticizing your favorite games. people like you are the main reason why gaming forums are usually so cancerous and unfun.
please stop playing video games
its a good stealth game with a cool main character
This is a joke right.
Fuck you
They might as well make the game's encounters a press X to watch a scene of Jensen knock everyone out silently, A to watch Jensen to knock everyone out in a zero fucks given way, Y to kill everyone silently, and B to kill everyone loud as shit kind of deal.
Might as well do it since the Human Revolution/MD design philosophy is clearly to involve the player as little as possible.
>TFW love HR
>Original deus ex players shit on you for loving it
Feels bad man
This is already true with nano fairies knocking enemies out by just selecting them and pressing one button.
But criticism is good.
it was pretty decent despite cinematic takedowns and you could ultimately get every aug in the game. didn't care for babby augs like see through walls and mark and track though. the wall smash and jump from any height and land like like an anime boss was super handy in hengsha though. like any choices game nothing you do matters though.
just installed it last night, all my saves from like 4 years ago were still there
I started a new game on give me desu ex
>enemies become bullet sponges
>die in like 2 hits
>quit game
>uninstall
