Super Mario 3D Land was really good, and its only flaw was that it directly caused them to develop 3D World instead of an actual semi-open Mario platformer. Dark Moon was a lot less involved than the first LM, and the mission-based structure hurt a lot more than it helped, but it was also pretty good.

You can't put them in the same league as Sticker Star and Federation Force. That's not ok.

People generally cite the changes from the original as what's wrong with it. Namely, the mission based structure, and the lack of portrait ghost bosses, which basically boils down to "b-but muh spooky house simulator" without considering that since the game is on a handheld, it was meant to have a different design to one on a console

Mario U is a good game but really feels like almost the exact same experience as NSMBW. I'd say that by their own merrits Mario U is the better game but its folly is the fact that Luigi U(the best in that subseries) exists. Luigi U feels like a different experience to the other two thanks to physics and level philosophy, but it has the same map and bosses as Mario U. Its not worth it to have both NSMBW and Mario U, but it is worth it to have Luigi U either way, so you might as well go with NSMBW for the least amount if repeated material.
