It really seems like any credible theory crafting has died. Both for PVE and PVP. The WoW forums especially are in the shittiest state they've been in for years. This along with top end guilds like Midwinter no longer going for world firsts is worrisome.
There's a slight chance Legion may be fun but it seems to be going for the ultra casual market. PVP prestige and welfare legendaries to the extreme more so than then past 2 expansions really only appeal to casuals and those two features are among the most promoted.

WoW theorycrafting died when they made RPPM trinkets better than on-use ones. The move towards more pruning, less stats to focus on, more randomnized/proc-based abilities than CD-based abilities, etc. means that players have less control on how their DPS will turn out than before. The biggest decider will be the big number on your character sheet, not your skill or knowledge about what your class can do.
That, and there's no prestige in hardcore WoW raiding anymore-- arguably since mid-Cataclysm-- so you see fewer sponsored/top tier guilds because no one gives a fuck anymore.

I completely disagree. Just about every rotation I learned from reading multiple forum posts. How many ranks of a certain spell I should have to be optimal. Tips and tricks for various classes.. Learned all that from the WoW forums in the early days.
At the very least the forums got me pointed in the right direction so I could test for myself.
