Are there any MMOs on the horizon that you're looking forward to or think are worth keeping an eye on? If so, why? If not, what would you like to see from these games or the genre in general to change your opinion?

Western AAA MMOs are dead

However, there's Age of Wushu 2/Moonlight Blade coming from Asia.

Coming from crowdfunding, there's Gloria Victis/Star Citizen/Crowfall/Camelot Unchained/Pantheon/Shards Online/The Repopulation/Albion Online and Chronicles of Elyria.

Check those out. One of them will interest you. I guarantee it. They're all sandbox MMOs inspired by EVE/Star Wars Galaxies/Ultima Online

the only one i'm slightly paying attention to is crowfall because of their all star team with backgrounds in uo and swg. then again we've seen and heard that before so we'll have to see if it pans out

nope, not a one.

you want my attention?
none of this generic tolkienian fantasyland crap. populate your world with something other than elves and orcs and humas
no zombie apocalypse survival blargerblah. the genre died, it's too late to cash in now
make sure the combat feels like a proper fight, and not phoned in baldur's gate ATB
make the enviroments visually interesting. I really can't stress that enough. If your forest looks like every other video game forest, throw that forest out and replace it with a holy zeppelin graveyard or something. I'm a tourist in your world, show me things I've not seen a thousand times already.

Eat shit faggot, I want a Tolkien-esque MMO that is a living, breathing world where I'm doing something else other than collecting 10 boar assholes.

Give me Middle Earth meets Ultima Online and I'll play it for 20 years just like I have with UO

Do any of those Korean online ARPGs count?

There's a crapload of them, I can't even keep track of them anymore. If any of them are free to play games I might give a shit.

>tfw kept an eye on Lime Odyssey because player-run economy and epic skills
>it keeps getting shut down
There's still hope.

Waiting on lost ark myself

there hasn't been a good mmo since the hardcore days of FFXI

Pantheon, but I'm approaching it cautiously, Brad didn't exactly handle Vanguard that well

pantheonmmo.com/

I'm no longer doing the thing where I follow MMOs in development at all.

>If not, what would you like to see from these games or the genre in general to change your opinion?

Hotbar combat-Fucking gone
Threat table AI-Fucking gone
Copy paste questing-Gonerino
Stale/static worlds-Adios

This genre was built on the premise of giving players worlds to live in, well now I'm holding these niggers to that and refusing to accept the same fucking decades old design shortcuts they keep fucking putting in their games.
Mostly I want a good sandbox game but I'll accept themepark if it's a Massively Cooperative ORPG that sticks the community in a world so dangerous they have to work together.

I live in Australia.

Any game I get more than 80ms ping to is a waste of my time, which is most MMO's because server costs in Australia are 5-10 times what they are in US, Asia or Europe because our government thinks that we only need internet fast enough for youtube and facebook on 2 devices.

nothing coming out is terribly interesting i donated to a few mmo kickstarters but i really dont have any hype for them and any mmo with the things i want have small playerbases

...

Most mmo's don't have a hook or aren't based on an engaging setting thus they fail.

Regardless of WoW's quality even back then, the Warcraft universe was a perfect place to set an mmo and its what's kept people attached to the game even this many years later.

I'm not even a Warhammer fan but even I enjoyed playing that Warhammer Online solely because it had a lot of cool and interesting things attached to it. Shame I didn't get to play more of it

>muh collect 10 boar assholes game was better than your collect 10 boar assholes game
Sure user, I'm sure that the notoriously grindy themepark was better than everything else.-

Combos.

He said XI not XIV you moron

this is made by the guys who made vanguard?

What the fuck is up with Kingdom Under Fire II?

I remember all those titty elf gifs and then nothing.
>initial release spring 2016
Well?

>SJW race
>genderlocked classes
>amazing
Yeah nah.

I generally love games MMO or otherwise that have the whole advantage/disadvantage shit, way better than any of those "chose your background or starting location/origin" since it actually affects the fucking gameplay and isn't just petty roleplay shit you will never revisit again and even forget later on.

Yeah. The feeling when other people need you is a nice feeling.

what are you trying to insinuate you autistic fucking smug cunt

>sjw race
what?
>genderlocked classes
unless you mean for the beastmen that's just wrong.

Thanks for the free (You)

>Thanks for the free (You)

You just gave him one though.

I've tried reading a bit into some new MMOs being developed but monetization and the gameplay are usually what turn me off.

What I really want from a MMO is that it puts me into a dangerous world that player's actions matter. Ideally it'd be about doing stuff, whatever it is, and making it become great. Not grinding. And I'd want actual skill based gameplay, which is the main issue bacause I just can't see the genre moving past where it is on the tab-targeting stuff.

I guess I want some other way to progress instead of leveling. I want stuff to be important, including death and pvp. I want things and actions and the fucking time I put into the game to fucking matter.

Are you trying to imply that I am the baiter or that you are?
???????

>MMO
>no grinding
pick one

Also it should be about community, for fucks sake.

What said is important. Ragnarok Online comes to mind, it wasn't perfect and it was a korean grindfest i know, but the way some classes were handled that needed specific builds and groups to level up and the way you felt you were necessary to do something important is what I really want.

Players should have important roles, whatever it is, and that those roles are important CHOICES players have to decide and move forward carrying the weight of what they did in the past.

You described Eve.

I know dude, it's a fucking bummer. It always feels like a fucking chore.

I thought Eve was grindy as fuck (at least time consuming as fuck because simple tasks can take hours)

There has to be a grind or you could never keep a stable player base.

Mining is the only thing that's time consuming and you don't have to mine.

I'm still waiting for an actual transalation of PSO2

foreign devs can make a decent and enjoyable mmo

but the localization is most likely going to fuck it up

When I think about 'grinding' sometimes 'competitive' games come to mind. You have to 'grind' the game as a way to improve your skill and execution until you can master what it has to offer. If the game was challenging in itself (gameplay based) and not in putting time barriers and gear checks in front of players I can see it working.

But that looks hard to design. I tried to write and think about actual concepts of progression that don't use a level system and it's hard to think about some stuff.

I love the game but the isk grind is still a grind.

VINDICTUS

Albion online is getting a huge overhaul here the 1st, cant wait to give it a new peek, last beta dragged out for way too long, hope this beta will be abit more than just mindless grinding.

Looked at crowfall but seems to be abit too pricey to get so many goodies so the thought of torturing my wallet for a couple of months to afford all the shit my ingrained mind wants to buy from it.

Black desert online is out and its decent enough abit of a solo experience, super grindy, super fun if you got friends, graphics are super pretty, Asian/korean version is F2P, EU/US version costs bux(technically you just buy some ingame microtransactions to get access to get game, as a sort of bundle so the game is 'free' but you gotta buy one of the two bundles to be allowed to play)

What is 'isk grind'? From watching friends I know play the game and prepare to play the game and listen to their stories of how much time they put into the game to achieve stuff it really feels grindy. I might be wrong because I never actually played it.

can't they just make the grind towards gear/collectibles/non-combat skills .etc instead

I want something that's lvl 1 to be able to wreck a below-average-but-not-retarded max level dude, if there are to be any levels at all. North America's internet is good enough at this point to have MMOs beyond point-and-click combat, right?

Legion because all the other MMOs thread are either grindy as shit/DoA

Null and WH exploration shit isk all over me

I hear ratting is good money too but I never did it. I live in SovNull and ratting in Sov sounds boring as fuck. I cum a little when I make it back safely from WH space with a hold full of isk from exploring.

>Facebook normie shit built into the game

lol no thanks fag

>P2W
>stagnated
Nope.

EXPLAIN

DDO

Every MMO I've played since Lineage 2 and 2004 WoW has been the same experience.
>new MMO releases
>make a character
>it's a single player themepark with a main story quest in which you are the chosen one
>everything except for the cross server matchmaking dungeons is soloable
>other players are more of a hindrance than anything, trying to group with anyone is fruitless because everyone is on different quests or just flat out ignoring you because everything is soloable
>"It's your fault the MMO feels like a shoddy singleplayer game, you're just anti-social!"

>there will never be another game like FF XI

Fug

>Haven't played Atlantica Online in years
>Loved the way the game played
>Can't remember why I quit
>Log in
>Less than 40 people online on my server

I don't understand why someone hasn't made a carbon copy of UO yet.. maybe with updated UI/Graphix

Vindictus literally has none of these problems

I want to give this game a shot but I dont know which cute girl to pick

Shards Online or whatever it's called is trying to be a copy of UO

Arisha is the cuterest but Evie is the purest

all the others are sloots

doublefug

Source engine

Too bad Vindictus is literally dead

source engine!

s-source engine?

it's literally alive right now,

a new character just released!!

What's that one MMO with the realistic snowfall?

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Found it

youtube.com/watch?v=cawwR8n875s

MMO's are shit.

Theres mortal online if you can put up with clunkiness

mmo's are dead and WoW's to blame

I was mostly shitposting but the small scale stuff in Vindictus is nice, but the raids with more than 5 people are laggy and choppy messes. has this never been a case in an MMO?

You can tell MMOs are really fucked when all that question can attract is a handful of weirdos trying to sell you on trashy ass Korean made messes.

Shards online looks like its trying to go full on UO style. I missed the ultima boat so I'm keen to see how this one carries. Not to mention it has a very interesting mod/player run server system in the works that by the sonds of things will allow players to make the changes they want with the game

honestly if you could get a game like Vindictus that is actually an MMO with a huge world to explore (and no latency issues) instead of instanced dungeons, that would be fantastic.

that was basically what I was hoping from Tree of Savior, something with a (supposedly) fun gameplay like Ys with a huge world to explore. The combat ended up being too slow, the world being too linear and obsolete once you're finished with a map, and the quests just typical grindshit.

Yeah I don't care but feel bad for MMO drones. They will all just shoot themselves now.

Crowfall had my attention for like 10 minutes and then I saw the classes

youtube.com/watch?v=TntUf9MBVxs
remember this?

it was probably going to be a disappointment anyways

Watching Crowfall and Camelot Unchained.

Both are still very early development, so they look shit.

But they seem to be the only promising upcoming releases.

Both will be hypes hard pre-release and subsequently dropped immediately by the usual bandwagon crowd.

I do expect them, at this stage, to be enjoyable for anyone who is legitimately into Videogames though.

same. elyria or albion are what im keepin my eye on now.

looks like an indie game

nothing beats the best baybee

>female lead in action game
when will this meme die?

Youtube on one device is enough, you filthy pirate.

Now pay me your taxes peasants.

t. Malcolm Turnbull

I put $75 into Camelot Unchained when it was on Kickstarter, even though I feel like I've grown away from MMOs. I'm hoping I'm just sick of modern MMOs like I think I am, but either way I was happy to support Jacobs in his quest for a spiritual successor to DAoC, my personal #1 MMO. If other people enjoy a small taste of what used to be, it was $75 well spent.

Game has been hit by some delays and they're understaffed in programmers currently but it's chugging along and looking nice. Can't wait for beta to drop.

>Both will be hypes hard pre-release and subsequently dropped immediately by the usual bandwagon crowd.
I know MJ from Camelot has stated he expects this and also expects to be running a niche MMO with only a few thousand subscribers. Think he quoted easy sustainability and profits with 10k subs. CU is essentially a labor of love, considering he dumped $2M of his own money into it I believe him.

Action combat is a total fucking folly in MMOS, anyone else feel the same?

Hot Bar+Tab Target like WoW and ARR is the way to go.

Lost ark looks badass. D3 needs a propper competitor that has good graphics and gameplay. I did not like Poe and its clunky gameplay much

yeah, and original EQ

how can one anime be so wrong

>Vindictus
>MMO

Please stop.

Tab targeting isn't the only option but any MMO with action combat has failed to have any interesting roles or classes other then damage.

Depends on how they do it, I generally like fast paced games and Tera at first felt shit. But after getting some attack speed and hitting cap, it felt pretty damned good. But the game has too many other problems for me to play.

On the other hand tab target is great when it's done right, but FF14 was way too slow for me and it felt like I was dying, playing it.

I'm starting to think same.

There needs to be more turn based MMOs. Why can't I have a comfy turn based MMO guys

From what I hear and read, Dragon's Dogma Online is actually alright in the MMO action combat dept, but it's japan only right now

are you

Atlantica Online did it well, if you can stand grinds, but it's dead in the water.

Don't mind me, just being fun

Im waiting for tablet Dofus. Maybe it will stop multiclienting and it has widescreen support or someshit.

It was crazy impossible to get some of the later unit types, I was happy to just get 1 inventor.

That looks gimmicky and terrible, just like "takedowns" in games like Deus Ex and The Last of Us. It's canned and would get boring after about 3 times.

We've only just heard about Wushu 2 and Moonlight Blade is garbage.

Gloria Victis is being made my slavs in a van down by the river.

Scam Citizen will never be released within my lifetime.

Crowfall looks halfway decent but I'm extremely wary because of the way it's being promoted.

Camelot Unchained is more concepts than tangible ideas.

Pantheon looks like it's ten years too late. It's being developed by dinosaurs who are completely out of touch and just want to rehash the same content we've been experiencing for decades.

Shards might be neat.

The Repopulation is in development hell and the last I checked had been removed from Steam for failing to meet certain requirements as per the EULA they themselves agreed to. That does not bode well.

Albion went the way of payfagging. They're just hunting for whales now.

Elyria is another that might be neat, but they're pretty far from being anywhere near something that could potentially shake the industry up like they're claiming. Their budget simply won't allow them to put in place so many systems.

Karok is the only character that can do that and it requires precise timing
