There are too many good ones to pick. The HOLE room is the obvious choice, but I'm gonna say the one where you first get the flashlight from the mannequin wearing Mary's clothes.

Besides, locations from SH games are very memorable. Even if you don't remember many of them, there are no doubt some that stuck in your memory.

SH1's Alt.School's "the door" room.
you're underestimating us fans, young one.
I've played SH1 and 2 some 30-40 times, each by now.
Alright!

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" fix works as a no-cd crack as well, and is included in the pack.
In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.
here's the recommended emulator settings for SH1. Works great on all other games too.
The plugins used are:
-Pete's OpenGL 1.78; (more options & better performance than 2.x version)
-Eternal's SPU Engine.
alternatively just use a software renderer for very 1:1 PS1-like graphics, including 240p only.
...OR just buy the game from PSN Store for few bucks.
Speaking of PS1 emus, anyone tried that recently surfaced anti-texture wobbling plugins?
oh come on!
Unlike most generic (western) games, Team Silent actually made each area and room more or less unique.
They also avoided tons of repetition with their "The lock's broken" spam.
isn't there a door in the school basement that is locked but you never go into? adjacent to the boiler room? I might be crazy but I played it twice and remember thinking it both times
I like that weird little area in Silent Hill 3 in the Hospital that happens right before you enter the "alternate" version. It's nothing but corridors and gates and then you watch a video of the Nurse from SH1.
that's a good one. with another Valtiel appearance when you climb the ladder
Henry's apartment
minus the hellish portal in his bathroom, obviously
Pyramid Head standing motionless under a red light on the other side of this barred hallway always creeped me out, mostly because of the inexplicable urge I had to stay there and stare back.
Does Silent Hill 4 only support a specific version of DirectX? I'm using 11, and it tells me "failed to initialize DirectX".
See, SH fans are autistic enough to remember individual rooms you can't even get into.
There's a broken-locked door in the normal school's basement, but it's a small supply refilling room in the alt.school.
old SH games are DX7-8 games.
4 might be DX9 game already, but not sure.
obviously you gotta install their own versions.
Moth room in SH2.
...
The cafe in SH1.
I really wish SH4 wasn't an escort mission, it would probably be my favorite SH if it wasn't.
The big fan walkway.
It always bothers me that in the first cutscene where PH stabs Maria outside the elevator it's clearly not animated, just standing there in that default 3d model t-pose before sliding forward.
Silent Hill series unplayble on PC.
it isn't, you just need to use third party programs to get the best experience
Is there any fix for this?
youtube.com
Midwich school, of course.
Never has a place with low hp low damage and slow speed opponents been this scary.
it even does something that games rarely accomplish, a good jump scare, with the cat in the locker
You just need to use your PS2 to get the best experience. PC ports was poorly coded, missing all Ghosts in SH4. Literally ports for cucks.
>PC ports was poorly coded, missing all Ghosts in SH4
What?
SH4 is a mess on PC, 2&3 work fine if you use SHproxy
I have the PS2 collection, but you can't expect everyone interested in the series to go out and buy a ps2
SH series was best what happened for gaming. If you not have PS2 you tasteless PCuck.
Man, Silent Hill has too many great places, it's hard to decide. I think I'll go with Neely's Bar:
There was a HOLE here. It's gone now
That line always puzzeled me.
Courtney Love's band played there, it's not too hard to understand.
Are all the discs stacked on top of one another? I don't see Konami as the company who would offer multi-discs holders.

it's a great collection, though I don't think it ever got a NA release
Its a statement that makes you think. So you can go with the another dimension theory where its still a hole there in the real world, or one could go with the spiritual power has taken away the hole. Or the most likely thing, the spiritual power is just fucking with James.
A room in SH1 that was a waiting room in the normal world but has the sofa strung up with barbed wire in the otherside. Where you use the card.
Or the assembly room in the Otherside school that has benches all looking at the bloody industrial fan.
That's pretty sweet desu senpai. All I have is the Silent Hill HD Collection on PS3. My friend tried to get me to play the games back in high school but I thought they were too boring compared to other games. Wish I had bought the PS2 Silent Hill games back in the day.
I find SH3 to be the most replayable and most "gamey" of all the Silent Hill games if that makes any sense. Or is that just me.
spook
Too many memorable rooms, but perhaps that huge room in the prison. When I suddenly found myself in a seemingly endless and entirely empty room where it's absolutely silent out of nowhere outside of those fucked up galloping noises in the distance it was really fucking unnerving. And the scream you hear when you put all three plates in the gallows really stuck in me.
Fair point. Holes seem to be a recurring theme in SH. The "holes" James jumps into before the jailhouse for instance. They are also just upside down hallways. Maybe the messasge is a foreshadowing of some sort.
>All I have is the Silent Hill HD Collection on PS3
My favorite places are definitely the first spots in the mall at the beginning of SH3. The bathroom, the spot by the stores where you get your first gun.
how many statements must Harry say or question if the nightmare is "real" follow up by its "real". Its not another world or dimmension its in the "real world" but the nightmare is invading the "real world".
Henry's a popular guy
Sorry
Could be, since the whole game is guiding you to go to the uncomfortable places to the very end. Plus James is an unstable dude to begin with that wants to punish himself for what he has done.
So the spiritual power is kinda like an extreme psychiatric doctor.
This bathroom. Perfect lighting just sets the tone for the nightmare to come.
Oops, forgot pic.
My teenage mind saw that fan as a giant fucking spider monster the first time I entered that fan room.
I got a kick out of the long staircase with the boat siren in 2. Or the Happy Birthday song in 3. Or the giant head at the end of the hallway in 4. There's really no "one" good SH area.
>Cavespeak the post
>Best what happened for gaming
>If you not have PS2 you tasteless PCuck
where you from me neanderthal traveler?
No other room comes close. This was THE ROOM when playing the first game.
Is there a way to play Silent Hill 2 and 3 on PC with a PS3 controller, I used to be able to do it perfectly with Better DS3 but now I'm using SCP Server its rather difficult to get it working properly.
I don't really wanna install better ds3 again though cause of that shitty motionjoy
...
Neat thread.
There are so many good locations it's hard to choose a favourite. I've always been fond of that abandoned motorhome in SH2. More so after dark, how a gross little space becomes a place of comfort with everything going on outside.
Just a door and an infinite stairway. That music is also great.
I noticed that on my last playthrough (PC).
Is it as noticeable on the PS2 version? I figured it was just the downside of HD showing things the devs never expected you to see.
>Silent Hill
Either the store you meet Cybil in, because it's
FUCKING
C O M F Y
or maybe pic related at the school because it's so hellish and when I played this game at age six, I wished I had the power to make my school look like this because I fucking hated everyone.
>Silent HIll 2
The room where Mary hands James the letter.
>Silent Hill 3
"Mirror room."
>Silent Hill 4: The Room
The Room, kek. Nah, the room with the giant head in the hospital - it's strangely erotic.
i think the SIlent Hill 2 dimension is infinite. It has no beginning and no end. It's created by everyone's darkest fears all merged in one space sort of like Imaginationland. I think people just cross over to other parts of Silent Hill because they might be having similar feelings.
I don't understand the goal of Silent Hill but I know that it coexists side by side with the real world. I hate that they try to give it an origin because keeping mysterious makes it far more haunting.
Most of the actual outside areas in SH1 i really liked, old town and business district had a lot you could just wander around and look
>Silent Hill 4:
I remember that room. Just a normal bathroom stall and then this. It scared the living shit out of me
Good example. Works in the L4D SH campaign too. I have strangely fond memories of my group having to make a mad dash behind the counter when a horde's coming.
In this vid, which I assume is the PS2 or Xbox version, it looks more animated than I remember it being on PC.
youtu.be
PC is missing many things from the original versions, altered sound effects and shit
Scared the shit out of me too, breh.
>Then I heard her breathing
wew lad
The hospital basement in 3 genuinely unnerved me.
Came here to post this. I wish the whole game had the same atmosphere.
There's an alley near the beginning of Silent Hill 3 when the mall is still normal that I like a lot. Like a small safe area before shit hits the fan. This chill music plays
Practically the most shit your pants moment of any silent hill series.
Probably my favourite part of the game.
Fuck you guys, you put me in the mood for some horror vidya.
What's new and not shit?
>New
Well there's-
>Not shit
Never mind
the flashlight room is GOAT
generally, the entire apartments area was great, easily the best part of the game.
Pathologic remake is looking good but it's going to be a while till it's out.
Cry of Fear.
That game's only flaw is the introduction jump scare and Chapter 4 being all backtracking.
7-8 chapters depending on the ending.
The opening of 2 is my favourite opening of all time.
youtube.com
When I try to run SH3 PC I only get a loading cursor for a couple seconds, then nothing. Any idea what's wrong?
The room in the school in sh1 where the siren happens for the first time and when you come out shit is all fucked up
It's quite like that. But it's not only fears it reacts to. I think Silent Hill wasn't a scary place for Laura at all. Every other character in SH2 was traumatized in some way and guilty of murder. Silent Hill reacts to this feeling of guilt and shows them a reality that corresponds with what Jung calls the 'shadow', all the dark, secret and repressed parts of one's psyche. So Silent Hill (in SH2) confronts you with your wrongdoings with the help of your fears. IMHO, of course.
>I hate that they try to give it an origin because keeping mysterious makes it far more haunting.
Amen to that
Going through the clocktower is such a great moment.

>this cutscene
>the music
>the bathroom
>thr back alley
is this the comfiest moment in silent hill
The hallway with Valtiel, Alessa and Cheryl.
I froze and just stared, couldn't take my eyes off it.
Silent Hill is literally the Twilight Zone.
I think it's pointless to look indepth in the "zone" or the "town", just indepth with what it's presenting to you.
Forgot image
I have never played a single sillent hill game
The room in SH3 in the hospital where it slowly turns hellish after you look in the mirror.
Play 1-4 in that order. Proceed with caution after that.
pls respond
The convenience store with a pterodactyl chilling outside.
bullshit. I've played them all (1-4) on PC, no problems. I do have the original PS/2 versions too.
Nah. They're perfectly playable with KB only if needed.
that would need an extremely big mod.
What a good time to start, then!
Consult the links & guide at: you need some PS3 controller driver and software to use them on PC. I personally just use either KB or my old Logitech pad.
>All I have is the Silent Hill HD Collection on PS3
You should try the Underhell: Chapter 1 mod for HL2 / Source SDK.
It's like a fancy mix of FEAR, Penumbra, and some Metal Gear.
You should provide more information.
What are your specs and operating system?
>All I have is the Silent Hill HD Collection on PS3.
Destroy it. Burn it. Burry it.
Just don't play it.
>Silent Hill HD Collection on PS3
I want to suck lying figure's cock
Jesus Christ that part was fucking terrifying but I completely agree that that single section would be my favourite too.
I played the game blind back in the day and didn't know anything about it. I think I stood there for like 15 min just staring back at him. I was mostly trying to figure out what the fuck i was looking at, and sheer terror cuz i thought he'd break out of the bars and kill me or something if i moved
I want to stick my penis in a lying figure!
hell is eco-friendly
Name three better vidya music composers than Akira Yamaoka.
