Is DR2 worth playing if I didn't particularly like the first one?

It's worth a shot. The tone is significantly different since it all takes place on a bright and happy beach paradise

Everything good and even somewhat frustrating about the first is dialed up to 100 in the second.

I didn't really like how the tone jumped around from happy anime cheeriness to senseless violence and murder. Some of the murders also seemed pretty forced, like when Mondo kills Chihiro. It all just seemed tasteless imo.

People only like hope dude because he died just like the madman he is though

DR2, while having a more cheery setting, also has an arguably darker atmosphere. The murders are still forced, but there's a justification for it this time. All around better than DR1 in my opinion.

You could say the themes are perhaps darker but the atmosphere is significantly brighter. DR1 had a huge feeling of oppression and being confined because of the completely closed in school, whereas in DR2 you're walking around bright sunny islands with beach music.

Shit, I already lost hope when they confirmed they got Papenbrook again for Naegi. The only interesting pick for the future cast is Mr. Satan as Gozu.

And for despair arc they lost literally all the good voices like Gundam, Kuzu and Peko.

First game my favourites were Aoi, Byakuya, and Genocider.

Second was Hinata, Sonia, Komaeda - but I wanted Komaeda to die anyway.

Between the two the only character deaths to actually make me sad were Sakura, Ibuki, and Chiaki.

DR has always been about the absurd shit, though. a big titty model gets a boner over a word from the dictionary and causes the apocalypse, it's always been about YUUGE twists and being absurd.

If your referring to chiaki, technically it was alter ego (who was a part of the world neo program, that was created before danganronpa 1) who edited the "safety ai".

I think being unremarkable fit her. She does go ham when the time comes and she can do a sad voice very well. She's monotone and calm, but I think that fits Peko as a character.

At least they got Teruteru's voice back, he's one of the better performers. Another thing I have against the dub is that it feels rushed. Either release the dub at the same time or wait 'till the anime is over, don't start dubbing it three episodes in.
