Anyone here feel that the main reason why monster hunter is fun to play, aside from good gameplay, is that the game's universe is so lighthearted and appealing?
All the NPCs are friendly and funny, all the towns look like the kind of place where you'd love to just have a week off, all the food is delicious, all the monsters are dangerous, but don't really pose too much of an actual thread (you never actually die to them)
>the game's universe is so lighthearted He doesn't know.
Joseph Gutierrez
I know it's never actually been used, but did it become the inspiration for Gog, at least?
Angel Miller
>non canon concept art not in the game for the original game somehow indicates that the universe is dark user, pls
Brayden Moore
Yeah but isn't the universe post apocalyptic or something? Like there was some great dragon war or something that sort of reset civilization to what we see now.
Luis Nguyen
>MH will never use it's high fantasy backstory and be Eva but with dragons and dinosaurs
Jack Perez
Does it really count, though, considering it's never been in the games?
Nicholas Bennett
Well I do enjoy some of the npcs like Guild Sweetheart and all of the felynes with their puns
Evan Long
Nah, I don't think so. They are very dissimilar. Gogmazios is just an ancient leftover from the Dragon Wars. He's not a dragon created from harvested monster parts.
Dominic Harris
I'm the guy who dumped the M Zinogre x F Tama doujin, I want to get my hands on the M Zinogre x M Tama one.
Gabriel Johnson
The world may be in a post apocalypse, but the world is still lived in and does not have the hardships of a post apocalyptic world. I mean, technically, the earth is also a post apocalyptic world, as is the world of chrono trigger, it doesn't mean a whole lot if the world at the present is pleasant and vibrant
Thomas Baker
>Read one of the artbook >There's a shitload of lore >None of it is ever explained ingame
Asher Richardson
Best weapon
Eli Myers
it's not canon, next to nothing is told to us about the ancient civilizations except Moga's and the Pokke Chief's ancestor
Joshua Turner
>M Zinogre x M Tama oh dear god yes
Kevin Jackson
>Giant sword in Pokke Village that also 'regenerates'
Imagine what kind of bullshit was hunted with one of those.
Anthony Taylor
Oh yeah I'm not debating you there or really at all. I just think there's some neat backstory they could expand upon if they wanted to. Like imagine if in MH5U or whatever we get, low rank starts off with the light hearted tone we're used to, which continues into high rank except for a few hints at something darker. Then once you hit G rank everything goes to shit and you have to hunt for your life.
Blake Johnson
Imagine a gold crown-sized Fatalis.
Samuel Clark
I think there's enough hints that the Monster Hunter universe may be a post apocalyptic world that was blasted back into the Jurassic era. It's not ever stated as such, but we every now and then run into these massive ancient monsters and also giant abandoned weapons that exist for what we can only assume is to kill these horrible giant creatures.
Eli Phillips
I don't know, don't we have enough games that deal with dark shit like that? Can't we leave monster hunter as it is? A light hearted adventure where there isn't too much at stake?
If I could get my hands on it I'd totally scan that shit and post it somewhere.
Easton Green
But that's kinda what they did with 4U. It got increasingly darker with Gore Magala and the frenzy virus and then apexed with Gogmazios.
Brandon Russell
there's always been a lot of stuff hidden away in item descriptions, tutorial menu shit, random npc dialogue etc. The Artian set for example.
one of the main reasons I'm looking forward to Stories is it's bound to have some interesting world building shit.
Jacob Bennett
Fatalis, the weapons upgrade into fatty weapons and dark stones and pieces are Fatty drops
in MHF2/FU, of course
Adam Reyes
Here's a question to the people who aren't shackled by language like us normie gaijins: is there world building in Monster Hunter that got lost in translation or is it more or less the same in Jap versions?
Jonathan Price
There's a 6* Village Prowler quest that I have no idea how to do. Fully break a Daimyo Hermataur's shell? Last time I tried I killed it before it broke.
Isaiah Walker
I want to hunt one now. Unless they're all dead and the remaining lot are merely kids.
Justin Baker
You ARE using a blunt weapon, right?
Daniel Gray
This isn't 4U where you can just use any weapon to get breaks easily. You kinda have to use cutting or blunt to get specific breaks or the monsters will die before you get it.
Joshua Cooper
I think it would be a fun change of pace for the series. And the darker tone would be the incentive to restore things to their usual happy state. As long as they don't sacrifice the gameplay for the sake of the it, Monster Hunter's story can really be anything. Look at Generations, there's barely even one and I'm still having a blast. If barebones story can work then I want to see them try and go full on DEEPEST LORE.
Brayden Harris
Do blunt palico weapons do blunt damage with their boomerangs?
Kevin Smith
I don't really mind DEEPEST LORE, but I really enjoy going into these games because it never feels like too much is at stake. I wouldn't mind if you went to research some ancient ruins and uncovered some biomechanical dragon, as long as it's not some apocalyptic event.
Kayden Green
Yes. If you're using one, then I don't know how you wouldn't be able to break a Daimyo's shell.
Alexander Gonzalez
The icon for them is either a sword or hammer.
Dylan Cook
yes, you can even KO things
Henry Mitchell
Well that's dumb. Now I gotta use the hammer to break the shells?
Nolan Murphy
You can break it with cutting boomerangs too
Jackson Cooper
I wouldn't mind if there was a gaiden game that did more world building, but I think the light heartedness of Monster Hunter is a nice way to balance how difficult the game can be sometimes. I'd probably find the game too heavy and unappealing if it wasn't for the goofy stuff to keep it cool. I'm sure online would be filled with more hotheaded grumpyness as well if it wasn't for the general silliness going on. Games like the Souls series can keep it dark and oppressive because the gameplay is not as demanding as Monster Hunter is.
Justin Sullivan
Adept Hammer or Adept HH, which is easier to use and more _fun_?
Henry Lee
Just finished an SA armor set in 4U which used a Handicraft talisman, so for the SAs with natural purple sharpness I have some room for an extra skill. Should I bother with Attack Up (S) or should I just upgrade one of the existing skills? It currently has Latent Power +1 and Evasion +1 for the skills which can be further upgraded.
Juan Nelson
Yeah, that'll be your best bet. All the changes in 4U were clearly done to make it more single player friendly, but ultimately these are co op games. It's expected that you hunt co-op and have a diverse set of weapons for different reasons.
Robert Ross
Well then maybe what they could do is something like keep the happy tone but have the hunter stumble upon increasingly darker and darker monsters and situations. But the village and its inhabitants all remain ignorant and think you're still gathering mushrooms or something. That way they could play off the seriousness of your actions with the fact that there aren't any consequences, or at least as far as the NPCs recognize them.
Asher Howard
>Dundorma is considered to have "the first dragonator" >except it's based on the design found in Schrade >and the ancient Moga civilization has one that possibly predates Schrade So what is it? Also why doesn't giga nigga penis head wyverian just wrassle with Gog? Does he not want to oil up?
Brandon Martinez
>The best low rank blunt, boomerang focused palico weapon is Teostra
Henry White
>can make the Gore Magala IG for kicks >look at the stats for the Shag Magala IG >85% red sharpness, literal millimeters of blue, green and yellow sharpness
fucking why, it looks so much cooler
Colton Lewis
what is best for hammer? pure raw, normal, or abnormal
just tried out aerial hammer and jesus this is almost as fun as SnS
Xavier White
>entertaining the thought of doing Teostra hunts >ever
Oliver Powell
whats hunting a Teostra like?
Cameron Adams
>not the malfestio shitter parasol
Nicholas Nguyen
Why did Capcom even make "Underage" a title?
Connor Russell
you know what it's like to have absolutely no fun
well it's even worse
Angel Nguyen
the same reason why rape isn't a censored word
Landon Carter
I know y'all called me crazy in the last thread but I'm pretty certain that this at the very least INSPIRED the MH Frontier team (the madmen) to create the concept of the tower guardians in the Sky Corridor dungeon in Monster Hunter Frontier. The tower was built by the ancients, it seems to stretch on forever into the sky but is made out of monster parts according to the lore. That's a lotta monster parts. Like, you'd have to fight a war with dragons or something to get that many monster parts.
There are dragons within it who do nothing but block progress and are known within the game to be guardians of the corridor. I think it's pretty hard to train powerful dragons so hard that subsequent generations of them still guard your shitty tower so either the ancients were geniuses at setting up ways to lure these beasts into living in their tower or the dragons have been designed, genetically or otherwise, to guard the tower. When you kill them you can't get any of their parts, they're all completely unusable. Although you are rewarded with what amounts to high quality relic gear, semi random stuff fully formed with potential to be the best gear in the game. The dragons themselves, Duremudira, have pretty much the strongest ice and poison powers in Frontier. Which is an interesting combination. Both could be considered methods of preservation, which to me at least suggests some sort of artificial aspect to these dragons. I know they don't really look anything like the equal dragon weapon but they do look like they had an artificial aspect put into their design, with big glowing jagged lines running down them, eyes covered in what appear to be lenses, squishy hexagonal wing tatters, and a very very oddly shaped tail that somehow helps them control ice. They look like a glowing blue frame with dragon skin stitched onto it.
I'm just sayin, these could be some sort of chimera dragon created directly by the ancients.
Henry Cook
The Equal dragon was created for the dragon war
Christopher Reyes
I wish MH was in a more EO-esque sense for setting I guess they are starting to go that way since the final boss elder dragon manages to actually kill people unlike the previous games where the final boss only does damage to trade and equipment/transport
Luis Edwards
I strongly disliked frontier's designs, but it's possible, for sure
Ryan Jackson
adept hammer is pretty sweet with that new purple charge
Ian James
Like suffering
Yes but he was created by people as a weapon to fight against the dragons. Gogmazios is the dragons that they fought.
Noah Thompson
I'm not saying they are tehhexact same shit but that the euqal dragon may really have been the inspiration for Gog
Ryan White
youtube.com/watch?v=opgDdr8YW-Q I really like the new music in Generations. The four flagship monsters all have top notch music as well.
Samuel Harris
Why do people say that Monster Hunter will never, ever get made for a real console anymore, when Frontier exists? And why don't they get localized? There's a Monster Hunter game for literally every single console and PC but only the handheld ones make their way here.
Landon Roberts
the oldest dragon in the MH canon is White Fatalis the dragons they fought would probably Fatalis-like
maybe wyverns built like Akantor/Ukanlos since they are confirmed to be ancient as well in FU
Henry Jones
Is it beginner friendly? I never really bothered with hammer in previous games.
Cameron Fisher
Oh my fucking nyagga that's my favorite track too.
Blake Cook
>Anyone here feel that the main reason why monster hunter is fun to play, aside from good gameplay, is that the game's universe is so lighthearted and appealing?
no
I am bored to shit with MHG. Im not sure what it is but its not as fun as mh4u was at all.
Jace Rogers
Nakarkos > Gogmazios
If only because soloing him was actually a feasible thing.
Andrew James
Same, but I felt this way about MHP3rd as well. It felt kinda like Monster Hunter but somehow wrong. I think it's just that the gaiden games suck ass. I might stop buying them.
Colton Cook
Anyone on 3U wanna help me farm for some Nibelsnarf X armor?
Daniel Jenkins
When you level it up the sharpness becomes more reasonable
All of the Shaggy weapons are like that
Jeremiah Edwards
>+65% holy shit want
Anthony Martinez
Cat one is better
Gavin Phillips
Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to make 2 urgents for HR5?
Kevin Brooks
Seems pretty weak to me. The affinity bonus ends up making the weapon an effective 186 raw and 29 dragon, although I won't pretend to know enough about IG to know if those stats are good or not. You'll also need Sharpness+1/2 which will limit your skills.
Alexander Ross
>HR5 Fuck i meant 6
Jaxson Barnes
>spent couple of hours farming for this set >has evade+1 and focus >really want to use it, but my charms that have decent GS skills are all 1 or 2 points short if I had the decorations set
Fug, there's a charm editor right? I just want to look cute
Luke Murphy
The one I posted here is the GS, not the IG. I didn't know the IG's name offhand so I just looked up the one I did know.
It's still not great but it looks cool as fuck
Anthony Mitchell
so to unlock palico skills do I need to kill the mentioned monster while a palico with that skill on his list is following me?
Gabriel Gutierrez
Yes
Jack James
yes
Alexander Russell
Oh jesus that's the GS? Well, yeah, if you care about looks more then go nuts. But those stats, man. What was Capcom thinking?
Jose Butler
Seems like it might be okay for Aerial since you spend more time rolling straight into the monster over and over than abusing Crit Draw. But there's still definitely better options.
Isn't there a mission to hunt a LR brachydios on its own?
Michael Butler
>Aerial jumps work with the Seregios weapons to restore sharpness
Dylan Murphy
6 star village, there's two of them, one for kill and cap
Evan Bell
Village 6*
Ryder Wood
Am I remembering things wrong or did Rathian/Rathalos fly much lower in 3rd gen so that you could consistently whack their tail and legs (with the right weapon) as they flew around? Seems like in 4U and Gen they made them fly higher again due to the vaulting / aerial style, except it sucks penis for everyone who doesn't use those.
Colton Lewis
Flash bombs
Jaxon Moore
bring flashbombs numpnuts
Oliver Powell
Best hammer and Dual blades?
Nathaniel Russell
>get near monster to attack it >roars >while I'm still in the cowering animation starts up an "aoe around me" charge attack that can't be avoided
haha, epic!
Levi Hernandez
>what is being smart >what is earplugs >what is giving a palico earplugs so they can hit you out of it
Easton Harris
I do, but Dreadking Rathlos does not fall down from flash bombs unless his wingalings are broken.
Gavin Jackson
What's this set?
Tyler Sullivan
ah yes, everyone has to carry earplugs. love that meme
Connor Bennett
Holy shit my man every monster like that has a roar tell.
Not true he's vulnerable during attacks.
Oliver Martinez
>I keep getting fucked by roars oh fuck >but I'm not going to use earplugs because it's a meme :^)
Julian Watson
>Get to Village 5 in MHX >Find out I have to do a ton of 3 star quests to unlock the key quests
I'm already feeling really burnt out on this game and I haven't even hit High Rank
Jackson Cook
>Mfw that fucking slog of shitty Gen 1 monsters that you have to fight in order to get to the good monsters.
Aiden Ward
>not being SnS master race >not round slashing your way through roars If you're playing multiplayer it'll stagger your teammates just enough for them to avoid the roar too.
