Do you think this one will create the same shitposting as Bloodborne?0

Can't fight Sup Forums's nature Jack. That said these threads have been consistently pretty great.

Now, what's the best armour set and why is it Youngblood?

I hope they fix the co op.
Having to completely beat the area to be able to be summoned is kinda dumb.
Also they need a password system so I can co op with friends.

Nah. While there was a fair amount of shitposting in Nioh threads coming from

>PC-only neckbeards who were bitching and moaning about it being an exclusive
>PS4-only retards who were lauding it SOLELY for being an exclusive
>Arrogant Souls fanboys who had their egos deflated when they got their butts handed to them and realized that being alright at Souls doesn't necessarily translate to being alright at Nioh
>Morons trying to start some kind of weird pissing contest with the Souls fanbase

I don't think it'd really compare to Bloodborne on the basis that BB only really went down so badly here after it was an revealed to be an exclusive after Souls had blown up in popularity as a multiplat series (Plus we know how touchy people here are about Sony as a whole). And to add insult to injury, it ended up being really fucking good, arguably the best in the series.

The Nioh demo threads, ignoring the shitposting from the aforementioned idiots, were actually really nice, probably due in part to the fact they usually only really featured around the same 70-80 people each time. Brought to mind all those early DeS threads.

>Having to completely beat the area to be able to be summoned is kinda dumb.
I'm not so sure if that's really all that big a problem. It means you can actually get acquainted with the mission first before helping people with it, and if you just want to do co-op you can still summon others. A system for co-oping with friends seems like too obvious a feature not to have though, so I'm sure that'll be in the full game.

I'm much more concerned with them fixing up the netcode for it, it looked really rough in the alpha, gestures wouldn't show most of the time and climbing ladders looked really awkward.

i've been trying to find a video of someone playing through this game who isn't shit or annoying but I just can't. it's impossible. Everyone claims to be DSouls experts but cannot fucking seem to figure out how to block

or they're some annoying german cunt

Don't forget people who complain about this Japanese-made game having a western protagonist based off of a popular figure in Japan being racist. Although I'm sure half of that is just jokes and it's hilarious either way.

Also yeah I think the threads don't seem to have too many different people so it leads to them being really fun and comfy. Beta soon!

I usually post this guy's videos just because of how impressive they look, but they're not a great showcase of actually playing through the game, it's just fighting while trying to look as cool as possible. Fun to watch either way. I think I might have seen some other stuff but I forget where it'd be now.

DSP was actually fairly good at it, amusingly.

Plus I think when he got caught jerking off on stream, he was getting ready to play Nioh.

man those juggle combo looks sweet as fuck

i need to try that out in the next demo

>all those people who blamed the game and thought it was too hard
>even DSP was better at it than them
Really makes you think.

Doing juggle combos was too fun. I used to think a launch attack would maybe be too strong, but when I thought about it more maybe they could make it only launch when the enemy is out of Ki, and make them fall faster the more hits or time goes by. Maybe they're doing something like that already, would be great.

I still want to know more about the PS3 version.

So much for those movie plans, huh?

The movie was officially cancelled in mid-2006, iirc.

And there were two versions intended for the PS3; the original was a kind of hybrid of Mosou and SRPG developed internally by Koei and was canned after they couldn't really figure out a way to make it gel properly. The second was assigned to Team Ninja after the KT merger a few years later and was worked on for a couple of years before being canned; it was apparently a more straight forward action game and according to Kou Shibusawa, was cancelled on the basis it was too similar to Ninja Gaiden and ultimately considered pointless.

There's no PS3 version. The game originally started out as a PS3 game many years ago but was scrapped and reworked over time until it eventually became the game we know now.

Also supposedly the movie script it was based on didn't really make it into the finished story aside from William-sama being the protagonist, which seems like a shame but it'll probably be decent either way.

The newest changes to the camera is for the better.

The William Adams pastiche being the main character is actually solely down to Team Ninja, the protagonist of Kurosawa's Oni script was a mixed-race Eurasian samurai named Oni. Apparently his sense of identity and self-worth as a halfu in 1500s Japan was to be a big part of the plot.

It might make things easier to see in some situations but I don't really like it. It just looks like it'll make you feel too separated from the fight and things will be much less intense. I'd like it if you could choose between the two though, there was already a setting to change camera modes in the Alpha, just make one the old and the other the new.

Oh I see, that sounds like it could've been pretty interesting too. Hell maybe the character will still show up somewhere in the game, that'd be a neat touch.
Maybe he's the antagonist guy.

I'd really like to see what they worked on of the previous versions at least. It's like with Devil's Third. People know and saw footage of the original game, I want to see some stuff from the original Nioh.

This is all that was ever shown off of the original version. I don't think it was ever even known how far into development it actually was and whether or not it ever even got far enough to the point where basic gameplay footage could be shown off. Even less is known about the second NG-esque version, only that Team Ninja were working on it for a while during the late '00s and very early '10s.

Now, I'm no ancient Japanese samurai at least yet, but surely one of them would have considered that running into the charging flaming bulls might have not been the best strategy.

The wind blows. It is 7 in the morning, Ken-sama woke up to the cold morning. He got up, and went to the bathroom to wash his face. Ken-sama live in a traditional Japanese house, he only rent a room though. The old couple is nice enough to let him stay in their house. Ken-sama grepped his kimono and wear it like a proper nihonjin, he walk to a window and smell the fresh nihonjin morning. “Ah, konbanwa anatas. What beautiful morning desu.” Ken-sama zoned out looking at the beach from his room. Ken-sama went downstairs to greet the old couple. “Ah, ohayou ojisan and obasan”. The old couple replied him with a warm smile and proceed with their breakfast while inviting Ken-sama. Although Ken-sama can not understand them, he easily could read what the old couple is trying to say, he is born with this talent. “Arigato.” Ken-sama said, he then went upstairs to take a few things. He took a bokken and a katana, the katana is hidden in his kimono and the bokken is on his obi, this is to avoid being arrested by authorities as he was warned last time. Ken-sama will be going on his usual morning walk to sightseeing the glorious nihonjin country. “Itadakimasu obasan and ojisan”, they gave him a mixed smile and a slightly confused expression.

I thought it was always a Team Ninja game.

Man oh man, those PS3 teasers were some fucking joke huh?

>Eyedentify
>Versus XIII
>that one FPS Sonic Team was making
>Nioh

Ken-sama reached the park near the beach, he like to watch kids playing as it is a something that can warm his pure heart. Suddenly, a sudden tremor. No, it’s more terrifying than that, it’s an earthquake, a huge one. The ground was shaking and beginning to crack, Ken-sama look at the children, they were running away terrified, “minna san! do not run around! Stay in place!” The kids couldn’t understand what he was saying, he gestured what he was trying to say, he ordered the kids to stay in the middle of the park as it is too dangerous. But that was Ken-sama’s mistake, he look at the beach from afar. It was huge, a tsunami is coming. Ken-sama widened his eyes and look at the children and yelled every Japanese word he knew “Arigatou gozaimasu! Gomenasai! Run away minna-san!” The children ran away, the wave is coming, it was at least 100ft tall. Ken-sama was ashamed with himself, he should have anticipated this, if he did the children would be far away by now. “sumimasen mina-san, it was my mistake”, he took his hidden katana and dual wield with the bokken and katana. As he ran towards the tsunami trying to stop it, he uttered his last words. “Arigatou obasan, ojisan. For taking care of me” The wave rise even higher. A shout is heard; “Nippon banzai!”.

Nah, developed internally by Koei originally. Don't forget that Koei and Temco (Which contained Team Ninja) only merged in 2009.

Huh.

You know, now I think about it, a game like Ninja Gaiden starring a weeb samuai sounds really fucking cool. I'm not entirely a big fan of the Souls kind of gameplay, or at least how unbalanced the beta for Ni-Oh was. Whatever though, I got my fucking DLC for beating the boss, so I seemed to have gotten invested enough.

>expecting japs to implement online features properly

youre cute

Nioh is already enough like Ninja Gaiden, especially if you swap to low stance. All things considered it was a better call to change it to how it is now, no point in having two things the same, and the combination of mechanics it had worked really well. Little bit curious what you thought was unbalanced in the Alpha though, and you know there was a second stage after the first boss right?

Hey it's Koei Tecmo, the DW games with online play have an invite system at least, it's not that much to expect. Plus I think everyone would have asked for it on the surveys.

The first ten minutes, really. Or rather the fact the game becomes IMMENSELY easier the better gear you get.

That's understandable, though really it gets easier with the better gear because there's no newer levels to use it on and keep advancing, and I think the beginning difficulty gets exaggerated a lot since you start getting armour fast and you have a perfect setup to practice combat in the very beginning.

They really need to weaken Ninjutsu and Onmyoji magic though, that shit was what was really broken, it was just too powerful without putting any investment into it.

Figure I should post the videos of the new levels that were at E3, they show some hints of the gameplay changes that have occurred and the area looks pretty cool too. Also you can get the bokken as a reward for finishing the tutorial dojo.

unusual chest piece is obviously the best

The warlord set is where it's at!

Unusual set is second best and gets points for the game itself saying it suits William. Just wish it wasn't heavy since I preferred going lighter for the speed, even though I had to take better care of it. Oh wait they're taking that out. Scout set is up there anyway.

No.
Bloodborne was a scenario where a successor to a previously multiplatform franchise (that was original Sony exclusive) was made for a Sony console only and the pathetic fanbase had a tantrum over it.
I think Dark Souls generally encompasses the worst of the "PC master race" faggots, which is a damn shame.

All the gear looked so similar to me that I just cobbled together the lightest set I could.

Man, I really like how the background of the menus look. It's just so nicely done.

>not being able to appreciate fine crafted Nippon armour
Anata baka gaijin desu onegai.

So how come theyre prioritizing a PS4 version? Gave up on Xbone too?

The menus and interface as a whole are pretty nicely done.

It's a canned PS3 game from a decade ago, is it really surprising?

Game's just always been intended for PS I suppose, I don't know much about any official stance but
>Japanese dev
>Xbone
I never really understood the UI complaints, everything looked great to me. I do like the text size increases and stat icons that they're introducing though.

And the fact that the HUD's been subsequently made a bit brighter and more colourful is nice as well, it looked a bit drab and washed out in the alpha demo.

Think they will do a second one or just give more people a chance to get the Mark of the Conqueror?

I hope you can kill NPC for their stuff. That ninja set is looking great.

Doubtful that you'd be able to kill off important NPCs, since it's far more outright plot and character-intensive than Souls.

Let me dream, it's all I have.

I like mostly that they made it easier to tell where the Spirit gauge is at before it's full, that was probably the main thing I wanted UI-wise. Looking forward to getting my hands on it to see all the changes in full.
Where've you been dude? A Beta is coming 23rd August featuring at least two new areas, I think a side mission, the tutorial dojo, the changes they said they were introducing and completing it all will give people the Mark of the Conqueror (so bad times for the copypasta). It's pretty much going to be the E3 build, though hopefully not as toned down for the press as that supposedly was (not sure if I buy that one really but we'll have to wait and see).

Just cause you probably can't kill him doesn't mean you won't be able to get his outfit. There'll probably be a ton of different ninja sets as well anyway.

Under a rock apparently.

So a few news outlets weren't doing their research too well around the time of the Alpha demo, when I tweaked the Wikipedia article slightly (Which stayed up for about 4 or 5 days). I don't really know how to feel about this.

ps4pro.eu/2016/05/08/nioh-a-copy-of-souls-or-devourer-of-souls/

You are a true Japanese hero and we are all proud of you.

Probably we'll be able to play as other characters and not only as Willy.

Yasuda said at E3 that William's the only playable character

I could live with that. I want the ninja style to have lots of evasion and dicky instant kill moves. Imagine if you could make enemies kill each other. And chain kills. I want my chain kills.

>ignoring the ki pulse explanation completely and just whaling on the practice enemy

Goddamn, and these are the sorts who'll give it a 6/10 on the basis of the combat mechanics being "too convoluted".

Nah, it's not as good to warrant it. It would benefit from better specs though, when playing the demo on action mode I still had some very annoying FPS issues.

God damn, that cock glove. Confirmed my purchase unless they absolutely fuck it up.

Some people are mad in the comments because the lock on switch to souls style lmao.

Team Ninja said there's virtually no sexuality or fanservice in the game at all because they felt it wouldn't fit the tone of what they were going for and would just feel shoehorned in.

Yeah it's pretty depressing that those are the people that were most likely listened to with the first survey. At least there's another one coming, but they should really close off who can and can't fill it out. Something like a minimum of 3 hours of gameplay before you can access it. There'd still be ways around it, but it'd be more than just "Do I have the Mark? I sure do, only took me 3 minutes to get marked by the first samurai". They just have to realise that you can lead a horse to water, but for some, even if they were on fire they'd sooner burn to death.

I was not expecting any, I do think it would not fit the game. She's just cute.

And so they should be honestly, especially if you're talking about how the movement works. Being able to jog and circlestrafe round enemies freely and mindlessly will end up breaking a lot of encounters and makes things too simple and awkward looking. It's been a pretty big flaw in the Souls series for a while. Having to walk or block to keep yourself from showing your back to the enemy made movement a careful and considered affair, and things felt very more samurai-esque.

If you just mean how the camera is a birds-eye view instead of the closer view, then I already mentioned how I feel about that in another post but the old one felt better and both should just be available at least if that can't be the standard.

Looking back at the Tachibanas up there is making me think, what other historical figures do you guys think will show up in the story? Which would you like to show up? I'm pretty curious how they'll portray Mitsunari Ishida, whether he'll be just a straight up villain since you'll probably be on Ieyasu's side, or if it'll be less clear who is right and wrong.

>reoccuring Kabuki bossfight
This should happen

Any idea who the old geezer helping William is at 1:24?
youtube.com/watch?v=O1oC-_LyGcM

i agree with the second part, your first point not so much playing solo made me better at the game. Last 3 days of the alpha i was helping everybody, was bretty fun desu.

Not sure, if I had to guess I'd say maybe Ieyasu Tokugawa, or probably even Yoshihiro Shimazu. The latter is probably more likely considering the current focus on Kyushu and they already showed the Tachibanas.

>Keiji Maeda randomly appearing in certain areas as an optional boss fight with extra loot for winning and a YOOO-filled themesong

Is the dlc locked to only people who played the first demo? or can you get it by playing this upcoming demo

Beta demo gives you a second chance to get it, but whereas you only had to complete the first stage to get it in the Alpha, you'll have to finish all three stages to get it in the Beta.

I think it might be four actually. There's the first two from the Alpha, the inside of the shrine we saw at E3, and another castle stage we've only heard about.

I didn't think we were actually getting the catacombs with Muneshige in the playable demo, just the fields/cave with the hinoenma (sp?).

Actually now you mention it I'm not so sure anymore. I know we're getting the Hinoenma as a boss fight so it'd have to be that stage, but I remember hearing about a castle as well. It'll probably be either the castle or the inside of the shrine but I might be wrong on there being the castle, though it'd be awesome getting two brand new levels rather than one we've seen a bit of. The Muneshige fight seems like it'll be cool as fuck.

I think I might potentially be mixing up a bit of stuff I've read over the months; I had it in my head that the third stage in the demo was the field was saw in the E3 trailer, which led into a system of caves where you'd fight her, which may or may not be right, but this is all I could find about her level

>Director Fumihiko Yasuda descended into ancient catacombs in the Nakatsu region of Japan, fighting through numerous enemies before reaching the area's boss. Hino-enma, an airborne vampire with a variety of abilities, highlighted the need for patience in Nioh's punishing world: by depleting her ki, Yasuda dropped her to the ground in a stunned fetal position. But while she may have been vulnerable, doing too much damage triggered a vicious counterattack that drained a large portion of Yasuda's health. "It doesn't specify how much damage will trigger that," Yasuda said. "It's something you'll learn as you go, and that's a huge part of Nioh."

It is good though that they'll trigger what sounds like an AoE if you're too aggressive though, I'm sure you remember how easy it was to break the Nue with Isonade.

Sasuga user.

I just remember a list of info saying both that the Beta would be the E3 build, and that she'd be one of the bosses in the Beta. I'll be happy either way, the boss fights all seem cool

>I'm sure you remember how easy it was to break the Nue with Isonade.
Not even just Sharko, but all the Living Weapons in general were pretty much able to last the whole fight and destroy him. I liked the idea of having to keep up a sustained offense or else he'd zap you and regain his Ki, but maybe it's not something for a boss, or at least it shouldn't be that easy. The stone sentries were fun and did it right, partly since they were normal enemies maybe, but their defense got nerfed hard it looks like. Bosses having unique little mechanics like this counterattack sound really neat.

Also I hope he really stays true to that comment on making us "learn as you go", despite everyone clamouring for tutorials and explanations. Discovering new uses for the moves and how things worked was amazing. When I found out by myself that you could hold the button on the Windmill spear move to keep spinning until Ki runs out I was like holy shit, but it took me a long ass time to figure out just how to do the Katana's Tempest move (the guard break one). Hopefully they know where to draw the line but less is probably better than more.

I'm finally getting the Doku, Lord of the Greater Fiends game I've wanted since '04

Bloodborne was a knife to the gut, Ni-Oh is a poke to the tit by comparison

The new "Tatenashi" set, which was revealed in Famitsu about a week ago.

...

...

In before
>right looks like a girl
>is actually a boy

Looks pretty fancy, but hold on a minute, in that first one, is it just me or is the mustache a bit more pronounced than usual? Going to Itsukushima will be cool.

>doesn't know about Ginchiyo
Tomboy maybe, but she's a real girl.

Oh wait, Itsukushima could maybe mean Motonari Mori or someone showing up. I think I have my times messed up though but I can't think who would be there at that time.

>Japanese Geralt

So given we have a few people here who're obviously Japanese history and mythology wonks, what would you suggest reading up on before Nioh hits? I've ordered a copy of James Clavell's Shogun and a reasonably thorough encyclopedia of Yokai, but I'm sure there's some other stuff that'd be worthwhile.

I don't really know all that much, but apparently Nioh goes all the way up to the Battle of Sekigahara, so I think anything focusing on that specific time period after the death of Nobunaga Oda would probably be relevant. Speaking of, it'd be great if they bullshitted an excuse for Nobunaga to come back to life and be a secret overpowered boss fight or something.

I'd cum if they have any references to Onimusha or the Akechis

The time is probably a bit off but if they have a secret bonus Nobunaga it'd be perfect to have a secret bonus Mitsuhide ally for the fight as well. I just can't see them not throwing Nobunaga in there though, you can't keep a Demon King down.

no love for light armor?

Are you me? That was literally my exact setup for my later time in the Alpha, even down to hiding the headpiece. I found a really strong set of that armour and didn't need to change it, looked pretty sweet too.

unless you can dodge like a boss, you'll get punished heavily if you mistime the dodge and get hit by enemies' attack

youtube.com/watch?v=d2FGgYp6mdk

Poor Davido-kun, he was more Japanese than even them.

Praying for Kusarigama weapon type.

I don't think you have to worry too much.

With it showing on the equipment screen it's all but guaranteed. I think it might have been mentioned in that Enraged Enrique video where they say there'll be 24 weapon types as well.

This is my spiritfu. There are many like it but this one is mine. My spiritfu is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my spiritfu is useless. Without my spiritfu I am useless. I must use my spiritfu true. I must cut straigther than my enemy, who is trying to kill me. I must cut him before he cuts me. I will. Before glorious NIPPON I swear this creed: my spiritfu and myself are defenders of my country, we are thee masters of my enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, u ntil there is no enemy, but peace. SAYONARA.
