No Man's Sky

So does it have multiplayer or not?

i.4cdn.org/wsg/1469930267075.webm

Game Informer: Will your friends show up on the map?
>Sean Murray: Yeah, but they will be a long way away. People keep asking us about multiplayer and I think when people see this they are going to fully realize what it means to be that far away from somebody else who's playing. And I know that that's a bit weird for people, but it's what's different about our game. And we want to embrace that. We don't want people just scouting off beside their friends. I actually want people to boot up the game and just think, “Isn't the universe huge? Who are we? What are we all doing here?”

>People keep saying to us, “Yeah, but what if I knew where they were? Would I go there?” And it's like, yeah, but they are going to have to stay there for quite a while while you get over there. And then once you get over there you might land on the same planet and then you will say, “I'm on a planet the size of Earth and I am on a mountain. Where are you?” Which is, I know, a weird thing and it's a daunting thing.

This is very very very simple; ignoring whether MP exists or not, is the game interesting?

If no, then dont buy it.

/thread

With a spaceship that lets you travel to billions of different planets, you'd think they'd let you use a radar to find your friends but I digress.

Sounds to me like they're avoiding answering the question for the sake of getting the most sales out of people who expect something big like people did with Spore.

Translation: "Lol, netcode is hard!"

>Spore's failure was because of its procedural generation
Fuck off newfag

I dont know why they didnt want to allow building. It would give us so much more game time and incentive to farm and shit.

I dont want to be venturing out the entire time playing the game, I want to build a base, collect resources and and have a place to call home and rest my tired head.

Wat the fuk were they thinkin

Why can't everyone just go to the same planet?

The point of the game is to get to the center of the universe so shouldn't it naturally happen?

>question asked
>they don't answer
Welp

Didn't even read his comment, did you?

= no, you faggots. No multiplayer. Cuz reasons. Lul this game is looking more and more retarded by the day

The devs jerk themselves off over how cool the exploration is and expect that to keep you entertained

Sup Forums having problems for anyone else? annoying

>have a place to call home
just call a planet "Home"
Duh.

BECAUSE ACKNOWLEDGING MULTIPLAYER SPOILS THE ENDGAME

FUCK

When you get to the centre Theres aparently a secret.

Go play Space Engineers then for fucks sake

Every time I hear procedural I am reminded of spore in the same way a rape victim would be reminded of their rape episode when they would hear the name of that guy that raped them.

Fuck no man's sky it pisses me off

Yep, center planet has a "THANKS FOR YOUR MONEY, BITCH" written on

>BECAUSE ACKNOWLEDGING MULTIPLAYER SPOILS THE ENDGAME
God dammit user you could have spoilered that

I've been having slow load times for pictures and replying for the past few minutes but other than that no

I'm tired of this nu-male dodging simple questions. It's a straightforward question. Can you or can you not see another player's character model? Enough with le epic huge dude space lmao memes.

Since when did people NEED multiplayer? Fuck multiplayer. what happened to sitting down by yourself and playing a fun game?, Tell your friends to fuck off and let you have some fun.

>Yes, but
Stopped reading there.
No Buts

>Why can't everyone just go to the same planet?

Because

>“I'm on a planet the size of Earth and I am on a mountain. Where are you?”

I'm reminded of moments in E:D when I was trying to find static locations that you can't nav lock to. Even when you know the exact co-ordinates it's still a huge pain in the ass to actually find the place. E:D basically cheats for a lot of it's navigation shit, it just teleports you around. Doesn't make for great seamless gameplay.

>I actually want people to boot up the game and just think, “Isn't the universe huge? Who are we? What are we all doing here?”
hmmm really makes you think

what happens to Sup Forums when multiplayer is actually the end game?

Could you imagine? A game like NMS, an entire galaxy to explore, but with multiplayer? As in, every person playing the game on one server? With building options? Players could band together to populate entire planets, full of cities and towns. An army would be raised to defend against NPC alien invaders or even other hostile planet nations. There would be trade, treaties, tourism.

They really need to stop beating around the bush and answer the damn question
Can I, or can I not, play with my friends on the same server?

>see that mountain?
>your friend can't climb it

No

It's a big fucking lie they're trying to sell.

why would they dodge questions if they are trying to sell the game on multiplayer?

I want a game where you travel the galaxy and jerk off underage little boy aliens.

>what happened to playing a fun game

Well then your first mistake was playing NMS

What's the endgame?

haha weenus penis!

I bet they didn't even code multiplayer yet

They aren't trying to sell the game on multiplayer. They're desperately trying to side step every question about multiplayer possible. His hesitation in the clip above is so cringe it hurts. He knows he has to lie to sell his product

Why does he sound like a fucking politician? All dodging and shit while trying to sound smart

It's not that you can't climb the mountain, it's that you can't find it.

I'm serious when I say that even when knowing the exact co-ordinates of a crash site in E:D it can still take hours of flying around the area to actually find the crash itself. It really is looking for a needle in a haystack.

how is he lying by side-stepping questions and giving non-answers?

this

>I actually want people to boot up the game and just think, “Isn't the universe huge? Who are we? What are we all doing here?
Shooting at rocks with your laser because there's nothing else to do

>see that mountain?
>now you don't

Multiple galaxies post first galaxy.

...

It's a lie by omission. Or a straight up lie if they answer "Yes" or "Yeah" when asked if there's multiplayer.

So shitty new game plus? What's the point?

Because nothing is saved serverside. People would complain that their incredibly huge structures wouldn't be visible to other people who discover their planets.

This game is going to flop so hard if you can't play with your friends. What is the point of this game anyways.

>shills are so desperate to promote game they have started lying about multiplayer as the endgame
pathetic

the fucking shilling in this thread is unbelievable

This is definitely something shills will have trouble downplaying. Too much time has been spent hyping up this game and it's EIGHT GORILLION WORLDS to just pretend that it doesn't exist the way they did with The Order 1886.

Expect a bitter fight, bros.

where exactly?

What's the point of a survival sandbox? Guess.

No you cannot. If you could they would've said so as that's a pretty big thing.

All of these threads for a $60 indie, "exploration" sim with virtually nothing to do and no multiplayer headed by nu-males. God fucking damnit

But radar travels at the speed of light...it would take billions of years just for the radar to reach them, and then bounce off and come back to you.

Nice antpost
Fuck off Cody

>no FTL communications system
wow it's like we're living in the dark ages again

numale detected

If I die be sure to tell my wife it's ok if she fucks Tyrone.

Why the hell would you buy NMS when Star Citizen Squadron 42 will be out soon and looks a lot better with a lot more content?

And FTL travel doesn't exist either, retard. Plus, no computer in existence could generate enough variables to create an even halfway interesting simulated universe.

This game is going to be casulshit from day one

I think No Man's Sky is a really interesting concept and I will applaud the studio if the game's scope is as impressive as they're hyping it up to be.

But if it IS as they're hyping it up to be, the game will probably flop horribly. While a small portion of the gaming community will adore this concept, the majority of it whose first games were either a Halo or a Modern Warfare will have a sequence like this:

>"So I just explore?"
>"What are the rankings?"
>"Where is the Multiplayer Lobby?"
>"It'll take HOW long to find my friends?"
>"This is boring and stupid."

It's the perfect storm for shitposting. Very little gameplay out there, and when it does come out it looks like shit. Devs are beating around the bush on every topic and think that hyping the game up as billions of things to do when there's isn't a whole to do is a good marketing strategy. They deserve all the shit flung at them.

NMS is neither survival nor a sandbox.

Translation: The map will show your friends, but you don't actually exist in the same game. Even if you were to go to their exact location, they wouldn't be there.

here's your answer

this looks good at least
but I don't have much faith in titles that have been in development for ages

I say that, either if the game ends up being horribly boring or pretty amazing, it will be a milestone anyway for trying to push procedural generation to a new level. We'll see tho.

I think all this suspicion about multiplayer is the driving point for this game... it what's gonna give people motivation to find each other in the vastness of space, another reason why reaching the center of the universe is so important. Either you stay out in the edges alone wanting seclusion... or you travel towards the center to find your loved ones.

Perhaps love is what keeps this universe together, to find your friend whom you love dearly.

you think I was born yesterday nigger?

artist?

>teenagers fall for their first snake oil salesman

cute

>Perhaps love is what keeps this universe together, to find your friend whom you love dearly.
So deep, I bet it makes for a boring ass game though.

Or people will find out the game isn't multiplayer within the first 10 minutes like every expects and the game will be shit, like everyone expects

>I will applaud the studio if the game's scope is as impressive as they're hyping it up to be.
We literally already know it isn't. Nothing you do actually effects the simulated universe outside of your game, the only thing saved server side are discoveries which are literally just name displays.
>No multiplayer
>Farming just upgrades character/ship
>Terraforming not visible to other players
>Discoveries do nothing
>Alien diplomacy does nothing outside of your save
>Literally nothing but shooting pallette swapped rocks and flying around
Prepare for all of your buyer's remorse

I don't want to die laughing again user

When will the randomly generated meme end?

I just want a few really in depth and interesting planets. When has building wide ever been better than building up?

>after you get to the center of the galaxy it unlocks the true multiplayer aspects including chat, factions, companies and multi-person ships
post more shit that won't happen

what race is it the worst to be cucked by? white? black? pacific islander? I ask because my gf starting teasing me about it a few nights ago

>Will you endure hundreds of hours of shitty prodecurally generated garbage to find your friends so you can endure hundreds more hours of shitty procedurally generated garbage together?
Nice concept, but if being united with friends takes me more than 5 or so hours or there's no multiplayer at all then I'm not buying. Open world survival games do best with multiplayer because at their core they're all shallow as fuck, and player interaction fills the gaps.

I'd honestly be impressed if the planets do feel like they are the size of the earth. None of that walk around the whole planet in an hour shit. I know it's all randomly generated or something, but still if the planets actually feel huge that'd be amazing to me.

wait planets are earth sized? As in it would take me years to walk around the whole planet?

Just like the big secret at the center of the cube in Curiosity?

>tehe technically I didn't say I would :^)

Getting real tired of devs doing this shit.

Play any other Sandbox MMO and you'll realize none of what you said would happen.

Yes but probably not years maybe a few months. Run speed isn't very realistic.

>in depth economics
>can sell yellow rock on red planet and make more money than selling it on yellow planet
>raiding space caravans weakens their respective faction

Fuck, Bannerlord please come out

This is from Infinite Warfare and not Star Citizen.

I think Sean Murray's point of reaching the center is that once your friends are near it the travel times will be minutes worth. I think that's the incentive to go there so that meeting up with friends is far easier. Sean specifically said they designed the game to allow us to see other players bodies in game.

So it's shit?

Wow this post really made me think....

This is Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare gameplay footage. Idiot.

>gigantic player-made faction wars
>extremely rare resources that thousands of people die fighting over
so much wasted potential

yeah, exactly. building wide was what spore's biggest problem was.
and then of course there are people complaining about how they never got a molecule stage, or underwater civilizations in spore, as if having more puddle deep modes would have made the game better.

The first thing I am going to do is create an intergalactic pirate fleet that starve's trade routes in the planet's sector, completely destabilizing their economy. Once I do this and recruit my own army of pirates I will force the galaxy to surrender to me and eventually make them all slaves and genetically modify them with the crafting system into orcs from 40k to be used as fodder for wars. Then I will scour the galaxy with my armada searching for people to fight and once I see their ship I will force them to surrender and drop them off on a remote planet and steal their ship from them. Once that is done I will send a detachment of orks to hunt the player as he cannot escape and do this continually to anyone I find.

I will also use the chemical compounds in the game to disrupt atmospheres on rival planet's causing natural disasters that completely wipe out entire populations.

Who hype here?

If I see any of you faggots on Sup Forums I will destroy your ship completely and take your resources, you will be nothing. And it will be glorious.

>Everyone rushes the center hoping to meet all the other players
>turns up you're all alone in the center
>LOL GUIZE IT WAS A MULTIVERSE ALL ALONG

you clearly arent uptodate with the latest memes fampai

really?
shit, I might just have to buy a CoD game for the first time in 6 years

It's still confusing people regardless of memes or not, I figured I'd let people know if they were really interested as to the source of that.
