how is that considered good writing? Alot of the time I couldnt tell why or where the reoccuring characters came from. Some parts of the story were hard to follow. I cant remember specific examples because I watched it months ago from start to finish, but I hated watching it. I was halfway in when I felt like giving up, but pushed on because I already spent so much time watching it.

Episodic stories are great when done well, but the ratio of episodic:continuous episodes in Bebop is like 7:1. Stories about the killer leftovers and the well-meaning crook are fine, but then you've got episodes suddenly focused on the characters' backgrounds, which was barely touched upon prior to then.

I thought something like Trigun handled that sorta thing better. Plenty of episodic stories before Legato and the Gung-ho Guns show up, but each episode actively gives you pieces to Vash's character and history, with proper pay-off as the show goes on. You didn't even get that with Bebop sometimes, such as with Ed and Faye, the former of whom just sorta leaves while the latter's character arc doesn't really go anywhere.
