In Nintendo's mind, they don't replace hardware. They introduce new hardware that phases out older hardware. Wii still sold while the Wii U launched, in fact, you can still buy Wiis. DS still sold when 3DS launched.

The only time a console has been replaced is actually the PS4 Neo and Scorpio. Those are what replacements actually look like, since they're not competing with the old model and the old model will be discontinued

What the literal fuck. It's already been confirmed that PS4 NEO and Scorpio will not feature games that can't run on the older models. That's not what replacing means. The moment the NX is out of the door the 3DS and Wii U are dead, that's actual replacement.

Literally the only company that totally promised a "new hardware wouldn't phase out the older product, totes guys" and changed their mind was Nintendo. Sony in particular is known for supporting old consoles for a long time.

This is not the point. The point is that Sony has gone back on the word on several things, including PSN and making it mandatory. Who is to say they won't happily make an exclusive on their "stronger" console? Who is to say Microsoft wouldn't do the same?

These are strong possibilities because these companies don't care about you. Remember TLOU and how it "wasn't" in development for PS4.
