I kinda wish that letting the AI handle your party members was still an option. A valid option I mean, with as much depth as P3 had, instead of just choosing between "whatever", "Attack", "Support".
I mean, I don't want them to remove manual party control, but I think that it would be nice on a second playthrough

Yes, Maxx "C" is a card in which you can discard, and for the rest of the turn anytime your opponent special summons are card (you can mainly tell it's a special summon if he's not summoning from his hand), you're forced to draw one card. So the guy special summons so many times that he empty out his opponent's deck, leaving him to not be able to draw when he as no cards to draw from, which is a lose condition.

I never understood this. At least spell and trap cards have counter cards that can stop them dead in their tracks, monster effects cannot be stopped at all.

There are plenty of cards that negate monster effects, they just arn't as good as spell/trap cards that outright kill that monster or remove him from the field.
Why have a trap that "negates one monster effect" when you can have a card that "kills summoned monster?" You know?
