Chrono Trigger is number one. Or at least top 5
Breath Of Fire II
Mass Effect
sucks
Chrono Trigger
Dragon Quest VIII
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy Tactics
Grandia
Grandia II
Shadow Hearts
Shadow Hearts: Covenant
Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey
Star Ocean: The Second Story
Final Fantasy from 4 through 10 and Tactics. The mmos and 12 and 13 weren't terrible games when you think of the genre as a whole but they don't stack up to that golden age.
Chrono Trigger, Grandia, Suikoden 1 and 2, Wild Arms 3, Star Ocean 3, Legend of Dragoon, and the original Kingdom Hearts are all high tier
>this show just straight-up had Bowser show up at the end of an episode
SaGa Frontier 1 and 2
Final Fantasy legend 1 and 2
They also had a katamari episode.
>Mana franchise mentioned nowhere
-screams-
Dragon Quest
Chrono
Suikoden
And some individual titles.
Pretty much every show on Cartoon Network in the last 15+ years has had a direct anime or video game reference.
It's not just that, the creator (Carl Greenblat) loves himself some video games (Mainly Nintendo like 95% of show creators)
Apparently Katamari was a huge influence for Chowder, and one of the characters was modeled after the King of the Cosmos.
Also reportedly their latest show on Nick, they have a Wii U set up where the staff just plays Smash Bros in their free time
how do i beat this shit
Best one
South Park Stick of Truth and Undertale
What game can I play where I fight the sun?
Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland
dark souls
Mario 3
Valkyrie Profile
Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song
Star Ocean 2
>all these Chrono Trigger
Why? I didn't see anything amazing in that game?
Valkyrie Profile
Etrian Odyssey
You don't have to like Chrono Trigger. But I'll I will say is there's a reason its popular. Though I don't care for FFVII when its popular, proving that people have their own taste. You're just isn't for Chrono Trigger.
I am playing Disgaea 1 right now. its pretty fun and I hope the other games come to PC soon.
It was fun 20 years ago and the story was cool but the gameplay mechanics are 20 year outdated. its one of those games where you just read the plot on wikipedia
If all you play JRPGs for is the story, then sure. Chrono Trigger will seem outdated since you already played it. But I'd argue any game will be if you look at it from that perspective.
There's more to Chrono Trigger than just the story.
My all time personal favorite is Legend of Dragoon
but some other damn good ones are
FF8
Valkyrie profile
Star Ocean 2 and 3
Arc the lad and Arc 2
Legend of Legaia and Legaia 2
Earthbound and Mother 3
Persona 2 innocent sin/Eternal punishment
...
>this scene in the Japanese dub is Black Star vs Naruto
>TWO SCOOPS
final fantasy 1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,12
tales of graces f, symphonia, xillia
persona 3 and 4
legend of heroes trails in the sky 1,2,3 and cold steel
resonance of fate
grandia 1 and 2
akibas trip 2
yakuza 1,2,3,4,5
eternal sonata
kamidori
kamidori is eroge but top class
>graces
Nigga what
FF5 is a perfect game t b h
Nice bait fag.
Chowder was part of the 2007-2010 live action years which were far and away the worst years for Cartoon network.
If you had a childhood in the late 00s, your childhood sucked.
Bretty gud list.
etrian odyssey 3 and untold 2
The worst years for Cartoon Network was the Cow and Chicken/Johnny Bravo/Two Stupid Dogs/etc years. When every single new show they had was done by second string groups under Hanna Barbera. And they were all trying to be random stupid comedy. THe era you describe wasn't great either. But it was still a step forward from that crap.
In before defensive millennials yell about it being the best ever.
>Eternal Sonata
A game as cool as it is completely gay
it's better that way
Dragon socks bruh
Where is Etrian Odyssey and Disagea, though? Otherwise solid.
I liked Johnny Bravo, the rest sucked
I'd rather remember my teenaged years watching in the late 90s and early 2000s those shows then what's on Toonami/Cartoon Network now with crap like Steven Universe or Adventure Time.
final fantasy VI is better than IV
also you forgot motherfucking
DQV Hand of the Heavenly Bride
BATEN KAITOS
GOLDEN SUN
WHY HAVE THESE NOT BEEN MENTIONED YET
Tom & Jerry was pretty good. I liked Dexter's Lab as well.
can't forget samurai jack though.
I grew up during the late 80s and into the 90s. So my big influences were stuff like Darkwing Duck, Duck Tales, Batman and Freakazoid. And honestly, you could claim I'm looking at it from the point of view of nostalgia. But I definitely haven't seen a period of western animation that came anywhere close to 1992-1998.
Whereas I can watch anime and still find plenty of good shows from any period between 1979-2015. Despite getting into anime in the mid 90s, not all my favorite shows come from that period.
>Cow and Chicken
Enjoyable.
>Johnny Bravo
Enjoyable
>Two Stupid Dogs
Enjoyable
>Dexter Lab
Enjoyable
>I R Baboon/I am Weasel
Enjoyable
>Courage the Cowardly Dog
Great
>Powerpuff Girls
Good
>Ed' Edd' N Eddy
Good
>Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy
Great
So did I. I was born in 1988 and also grew up with stuff like reruns of the original TMNT, Transformers, Darkwing Duck, Batman Beyond, Tailspin, Batman, Superman, SWAT KATS, etc...
youtube.com
Tailspin was the best.
>there are plebs in this thread who have never played Grandia
Everything you just named is mediocre to bad.
t. faggot (1998-current)
...
>get to where I control Team 2
>no clue what to spec for my classes
>can't progress
welp
Ah man...I'm not big into JRPGs but i played one that was really excellent back in the GC/PS2 generation...i think it was called like Lost Odyssey? It was 4 fucking discs on the gamecube and i enjoyed every second.
Damn I'm trippin it was 360 not gamecube fuck
Does Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga count?
Also, Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon
>that era where all Cartoon Network characters lived in the same universe and city
Now it would be barren as fuck
youtube.com
That one Space Ghost episode with his brother scared me shitless as a kid.
Tom and Jerry was just reruns of shows from the 50's.
It's like including all the 40 year old Hanna Barbera reruns that CN used to show in the late 90s'
>this thread has turned into one about cartoon network shows rather than everyone sucking chrono triggers dick
Let's keep this going, and you explain to me in full force why EE&E is not the greatest cartoon to come out of cartoon network
It is a flawed but beautiful gem
If we're loose with the definition of JRPG, then this list:
Chrono Trigger is 20 years old, and it's starting to show, but god damn if it's still not one of the most polished games to have ever existed.
Radiant Historia has one of the best protagonists in recent memory, and a pretty damn decent time-travel plot with choices that actually matter at least a bit.
Devil Survivor is an SRPG, but it's probably the best one on both the DS and 3DS, and one of the best I've played in recent memory.
Dragon Quest 5 is incredibly comfy, and has a pretty decent story for what it is, coupled with DQ's usual polish and attention to detail.
Mother 3 is probably the game I'd call artsy bullshit, but it's well made and well written artsy bullshit, and that I can like. Music is something else, as per series standards youtube.com
Etrian Odyssey 3 is a dungeon crawler, and while it's not as refined as it's later entries, it's far more fun.
You're the first person on the entirety of Sup Forums to use the word "millennials" correctly
I'd argue Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy can easily tie with EE&E
That show was garbage at worst and mediocre at best.
The only thing noteworthy about it was it's animation.
>EE&E
>not Courage
>not PPG
>not GAoB&M
Come on user, EE&E is fun, but there's a lot to pick from.
EE&E is the best comedy cartoon CN will ever have
Courage is best overall cartoon
now in terms of action cartoon it's a tie between Samurai Jack and MegasXLR
>no clue what to spec for classes
>can't progress
google?
Not like it matters you can eventually max everything out so you can just start by putting at least 1 point on everything
Chrono Trigger is HIGHLY overrated. Its got a nice concept and plot but there is no doubt in my mind that the gameplay is shallow and nothing but nostalgic.
>EE&E
>garbage
thief
t. born December 31, 1997 @ 11:59:59 PM
Devil Survivor 1 and 2
Dragon Quest V and VII
Suikoden 2
Golden Sun 1 and 2
Sengoku Rance
>Devil Survivor 1 and 2
>and 2
I'll admit the gameplay is a bit better than the first, but other than that it's about a step down in basically everything else.
I dont understand what makes it so good it was just like the final fantasies of its time except everyone had gokuface which isnt a positive. Its a solid rpg but id never call it the best, not even close.
Wasn't DeSu2 turn locked: the game? I'd argue that gameplay was the one thing that didn't improve.
It's the levels of craftsmanship in the game. Again, the game's definitely showing it's age after 20 fucking years of technology advancements, but it's by no means unplayable now, or even unfun.
>it was just like the final fantasies of its time except everyone had gokuface which isnt a positive
You realize who makes both Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger, right? Hell, let's add in Dragon Quest.
For its time, it had a nice story. Its kinda like Golden Sun, for its time the gameplay was deep enough to keep people interested and of course the story itself was also good for its time, plus the nice animations and anime combination attacks. However, if you look at it now, you'd realize how shallow the gameplay is.
To be honest, Final Fantasy 1 had more levels of strategy in its RPG elements than Chrono Trigger did.
Chrono Triggers main selling point is its story, but as far as turn-based rpg goes, its gameplay shows its age and I wouldn't find it fun nowadays, not after being spoiled with stuff like Etrian Odyssey or 7th Dragon.
Name a funnier scene from this show
Seriously, please tell me
This scene was the magnum opus of the entire show
I miss Chowder
Although I do enjoy the show, people hold it up on some pedestal for some reason
It's great but honestly I'd say its really overrated
I don't think 1 was much better on that front, but yeah, I think it's easier to exploit in 2.
On the flipside, Phys was made usable into lategame. Too bad they didn't nerf Drain/Holy Dance. Fuck, the dances in general are still too strong.
>his mom didnt have a chicken
>his dad didnt have a cow
I know they're both square games senpai and I never called them unplayable or unfun what I'm saying is its just like the other 16 bit atb games except... they jump around in battle? I'm just saying it never made me expand dong like say Suiko II
Paper Mario
Valkyrie Profile
Ar Tonelico II
Super Robot Taisen OG Saga Endless Frontier
Final Fantasy V, VII, IX, and X are my favorite of the series, XII also being pretty good.
Kingdom Hearts is great even though the story is really weird and over complicated.
Super Mario RPG and Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga are also really good.
Forgot to mention the the first two Paper Mario games (though the third one is also alright).
shaka shaka shaka
Oh yeah the Hinako/Daichi rape train.
Still I remember having to let the enemy come to me most fights because being attacked knocks you lower in the turn order and that psyduck was the defacto best character for having a slightly higher "turn speed"
smrpg
How do you want your Multi-Strike/Pierce+Phys Amp+Drain Hit/Marksman, user?
overrated and mediocre
Paper Mario is superior
I disagree
Do you have a link to it on youtube or something I don't remember this scene.
I was born in 88', faggot.
