I want to since I really like the idea of the faceplates and the 3DS XL is a bit big. But I don't know if the smaller screen will annoy me too much, as its screen is one whole inch smaller than what the old XL screen is.
Lincoln Young
i went from the XL to the New XL and currently using regular New. what do you wanna know?
Oliver Wood
arceusdamn nintendo has really gone overboard and completely lost it with all these model numbers
Oh. Why did you switch from the XL to regular? How do you feel about the screensize when you went from an old XL to new XL to regular new?
Does the better hardware improve lag in games (thinking specifically on pokemongames that has crazy lag sometimes)
Ryan Davis
I own both. The XL's screen is usually a jaggy, blurred mess in comparison to the regular's. I can see the appeal of the bigger screen but most games look substantially worse on it.
Unfortunately the regular's screen is also still noticeably more stretched than the original 3ds, too.
Asher Smith
I got the regular N3DS because I'm a faceplatefag, size change doesn't bother me that much
Leo Green
The only reason I haven't gotten the n3ds is because it dosen't have the CPP and I hate that little nipple to control the camera.
Justin Cruz
n3DS screen is much sharper
Andrew Anderson
>Why did you switch from the XL to regular? because the special Pokemon edition came out and the ability to customize your 3DS's appearance to match your changing taste is GOAT >How do you feel about the screensize when you went from an old XL to new XL to regular new? Well the old XL and New XL have the same screen size so no difference there. But the New regular has a better resolution since the New XL simply blows up the image and the blurriness and jagginess are noticeable now that i have a regular New. I prefer the regular New overall because i (and i only speak of myself) would honestly have wrist aches from holding the New XL for long periods of time. Couldnt play for more than 3 hours. (I'm 5' 11'' btw) Eventually ended up buying an attachable grip and that helped a lot for strenuous games like Smash and Monster Hunter. Bought a new grip for the regular New when i got that. Oh and the 3D function is leagues better on a New 3DS if that makes a difference. Doesnt hurt my eyes and stays consistent thanks to a new eye traker function in the camera. >Does the better hardware improve lag in games (thinking specifically on pokemon games that has crazy lag sometimes) Yes and no. Only specific games utilize the New 3DS's improved hardware because the devs allowed it to. Games such as Xenoblade, Hyrule Warriors, Smash Bros, and Monster Hunter series. There's a full list out there. All other games (including Pokemon) are locked into their performance and frame rate. Its not like emulating on a PC where you can tweek those features and have it take advatage of your hardware. Nintendo really fucked there imo
Kayden Campbell
why do people always talk like the XL is the default choice? bigger screen seems silly when we're talking about lowering pixel density.
it's a fucking portable device.
Cameron Allen
because Americans dont have a choice. they only released regular N3DS TWICE (and in white) and theyre special editions. one of which can no longer be found. not a reasonable price anyway. and they dont sell the faceplates in any store (not good ones anyway). they have to be bought online and theyre pricey.
Blake Long
Because adults usually have proportionate hands and know better than to squint their eyes over tiny displays showing jagged 3D.
Nathan Lee
Wait, they offered a n3ds to Clapistan that wasn't an XL? When?
Liam Martinez
>I'm a mature adult >I need the extra big childs toy for my fatass hands get some reading glasses old man
Logan Campbell
Thanks for the input.
What colour of 3DS and faceplates do you use? I was thinking of buying a plain white 3DS (those SNES-buttons are beautiful) and going with pic related to start
Caleb Collins
Got tired of kids shoving their faces next to me playing pokermans or sm4sh, so I went with the XL Now they shove each other away.
It's the only "new" one you can get in burgerland unless you count the animal crossing N3DS bundle.
Sebastian Cox
I have. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be
Ryder Bell
The irony here is that you'll be the one needing reading glasses soon.
Elijah Barnes
They were preorder ONLY: Pokemon 20th anniversary (2016) and Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer (2015)
Juan Morales
this one and a special Pokemon Red and Blue edition. the Pokemon one sold out instantly and never got restocked
that feeling when i stood in line for hours to get the Pokemon one
Sebastian Sullivan
I'm still using the OG purple 3DS. Old girl might break sometime soon, but dammit, I have to believe that she'll hold. I've gone through about 1000 hours through three Monster Hunter games, and another 1000 breeding Pokemon alone, she's served me well and I just don't have the heart to replace her.
Noah Rivera
Dammit. Why is Nintendo allergic to my money?
Oliver Murphy
It's Nintendo being all Japanese on us thinking that westerners all want BIGGER STUFF because 'murica and limited edition stuff always sell so... make the small things limited!
Wyatt Morgan
debating if i should get the Splatoon one but i think it looks better on a black N3DS imo which i dont have
Isaiah Jenkins
> dat Hanfuda case
Noice.
Nathan Morales
>Black n3DS probably never. >All smaller US n3DS consoles sell out pretty much instantly. >Cheapest n3DS costs something like $280 I mean why?
Adam Richardson
i still see the Happy Home one at my local Toys R Us. I feel like its the same one and its been there since its initial release.
waiting for someone to buy it as Isabelle smiles at each passerby
Xavier Martinez
My local Gamestop had a Red/Blue one still in stock last month. I thought they were restocking but the employee said the person who pre-ordered it never picked it up and had been sitting in their display case. Instantly bought that bad boy. Granted I live in a very rural area, so I just probably got lucky.
Thomas Lewis
I went from 3DS XL to New 3DS partially because of faceplates and Pokemon 20th Anniversary hype, but mostly because I noticed all my jeans had consistent holes forming right where one of the XL's corners pushes against the fabric in my pocket, so I figured my pants would appreciate me moving onto a smaller handheld. Unless your eyesight is bad to the point where you need the XL screens, it's very easy to adjust to the standard 3DS screens
Carson Price
Lucky Mofo. Give that puppy a home!
Chase Sanders
Can't speak for the New 3DSmall, but the original 3DS was really uncomfortable. Also, GameBoy and DS games at native resolution were way too small.
Ayden Jackson
Nice plates, those were my second favorite behind Teresa
Lincoln Hernandez
thanks. i was actually debating between the Hanafuda and pic related. im happy with what i chose in the end
pic related looks a bit girly imo
Ethan White
you really did luck out. good for you. the guy might have actually died i honestly was really close to getting it but i was one of the lucky few that got the Pokemon one
>tfw when all the kids i see go into the store to buy a N3DS opt for the XL
Joshua Parker
>the Boo plates glow in the dark shit! i might get that one now
Thomas Hernandez
Enjoy paying through the nose, I lucked out and picked it up during the only restock I'm aware of, and it was still twice the price of other plates.
Sebastian Howard
>not calling it the Super 3DS
Elijah Flores
They're literally the rarest plates and go for $80 starting, and originally they were $140 until the US reprinted them for a single stock.
Landon Perry
>XL blows up image Shit. I wanted to get a limited edition one but it's XL only.
Josiah Foster
>buy the Isabelle N3DS because it's the only option in America >2 months later they release the Pokemon version
Brody Perez
kek. you just reminded me that there exists a town in NM actually called Truth or Consiquences
Jace Edwards
I sadly had to retire my OG red 3DS a few months ago. In January of last year, my L button started to go, but when I bought Codename STEAM, I got the button working again through sheer force of will. After a few months, my R button started dying. It was at that time I knew I had to let the poor thing die with dignity. Plus, I wanted a N3DS.
Jayden Davis
Do you notice a difference in battery life between the XL and non-XL? And between New and old?
Leo Green
Regarding the IPS vs TN screen issue;
Is this still a random thing with both XL and non-XL? Or have they sorted out their supply now?
Does it really matter with the 3DS? Even if IPS were 'better', it's still worse than OLED etc. Is IPS better in every regard?
Tyler Lewis
yeah. XL sucks up more energy and had to charge it every day. it was better when it was new though. got worse over time. same for the New XL but but didnt get beyond a charge every 4-5 hours. New regular has been consistent and can last 6-7 hours.
Elijah Roberts
interesting, everything i've read has suggested the xl had better battery, and it was the main thing holding me back from the nonXL
Levi Kelly
I want a regular black New 3DS but I live in Canada
If I buy one from Europe, can I use north American chargers and cartridges?
Or, if I want digital games, can I preload whatever roms I want region free using Luma and EMUnand?
Oliver Collins
If you're under 6 foot, yes. If not, you're going to get hand cramps.
Juan Thompson
Does the XL have better specs like the original, or is it just bigger this time? Also where do I get a regular size with plates?
Jayden Fisher
i think it depends on what you play desu. i play a lot of heavy games like MH and Smash (online as well) and tend to play with a little 3D. the batteries for the New ARE definitely better than the old ones. that much ive noticed. and the XLs requiring more just makes sense their larger and demand more power. i have since turned on Power Save and lowered the brightness which helps a great deal
Gavin Richardson
>Also where do I get a regular size with plates? online. if youre ameican. good luck with that
Benjamin Jackson
I had to switch to the XL because of those. My fucking massive hands combined with the fact that I got the early stages of arthritis, not a good combination for such a tiny thing. Didn't even bother with the normal-sized New 3DS.
Ethan Barnes
>early stages of arthritis
?
Jack White
I'm willing to accept that I have no idea what I'm talking about.
Ryan Parker
I went from OG XL to N3DS when Monster Hunter 4U came out. Honestly, if you don't care about being able to customise your console I wouldnt recommend switching. Xenoblade and SNES games can be easily emulated nowadays and the few games that run better on N3DS arent really worth the $200 investment. Stable 3D is neat but ultimately nothing groundbreaking.
If you do decide to switch I recommend reading up which faceplates have a glossy finish and which are matte. The glossy ones suck dick since they stick to your hands like crazy, making them feel shitty to hold, and they also scratch very easily. N3DS XL has the same problem - the entire console has a glossy finish which sticks to your hands if your hands begin sweating even a little.
Christopher Myers
The built in camera control for monster hunter is tempting. But you're right, I'll stick with my XL.
I really hope Nintendo gets their next portable right the first time, instead of releasing 20 different versions
>not too big >spacious screens that aren't 240p >2 sticks, 2 bumpers >faceplates are neat and should return
Carson Martin
bump for interest
Robert Edwards
MH looks and runs better on a N3DS. the nipple and extra shoulder buttons arent the only additions. Hyrule Warriors is downright unplayable on an Old 3DS if that interests you. there comparison videos
Nathan Hill
I'm still pretty content with my normal 3DS. I would've gotten one for the Hyrule Warriors port if you were able to transfer data, grinding just takes up so much time in that game it's not even worth it to start over from scratch.
Elijah James
Yes, but you'd have to hack your console and install Luma 3DS. I'm playing American Rune Factory 4 on my European 3DS right now, shits comfy.
Matthew Thomas
I'm not really feeling MHgen that much, 3U and 4U were much better.
Not interested in xenoblade or HW either. I'm gonna hold out for Nintendo's next handheld and hope they make a MH game for that. Maybe finally we'll get beyond 240p ps2 graphics that isn't a Chinese exclusive MMO
David Ortiz
>arceusdamn >f*cking >ninty
jesus christ, i can smell the summer from here
Julian Bell
Nice. Hacking it is no issue, it's simple as fuck.
So I'm assuming cartridges will work fine, right? They wouldn't region lock a cartridge.
Noah Lee
Regular N3DS all use TN screens
Oliver Reed
and is that noticeably worse than ips?
Gabriel Nguyen
MHGen runs the same on OG 3DS and N3DS actually. They only difference are faster load times on the latter, unlike 4U the framerate stays the same ie. silky smooth 30 fps.
Mason Ramirez
Yes. I specifically mentioned Rune Factory 4 because that game was only released digitally in Europe, so if I wanted a box and a cartridge I had to import them from America or Japan. If you have Luma 3DS running out of region cartridges is literally insert-and-play. You don't have to launch any additional region free programs or anything.
Noah Myers
only for viewing angles really, but I can't see why you would be looking at your screen from anything much more than straight on anyway
Evan Allen
I only have a regular N3DS so I can't tell you.
Benjamin Jones
N3DS is the first portable I've ever purchased in my life, I'll never be buying any Nintendo products in the future because it literally had NO games and its hardware is complete shit and will be like that for future generations.
Smartphones have better cpu/gpu processing power than any portable system on the market.
Jacob Lee
So is the New 3DS the same as the old 3DS?
I always assumed it was the same, it just had a bigger screen or something.
Zachary Phillips
I believe slightly better textures as well. The 30fps cap is what sucks the worst, the visuals aren't even very good compared to 3U and 4U overall.
Flooded forest and misty peaks were legitimately amazing running on 3DS at like 40-50 frames per second. Tons of plantlife and good skyboxes, high texture quality, and 3U had sort of a blurry antialiasing.
I don't know if MHGEN version of misty peaks is equal in visuals, but it's already got lower frames and no "image smoothing" antialiasing I don't know what to call it
Jonathan Richardson
more processing power plus a couple extra buttons/joystick. Still comes in regular and xl sizes like o3ds
Justin Carter
Awesome. Now I've just got to find a site that sells New 3DS's from Europe to Canada. Nothing on eBay or Amazon as far as I could see, surprisingly. Just XL'S.
Zachary Rogers
oh, and head tracking for 3d if you care about that. I suppose it is somewhat novel
Aaron Baker
Does the NXL have more power than the N3DS?
Sebastian Butler
no, just larger screens
Lincoln Jackson
Then I'm off to pick up the Pokémon special edition, thanks user.
Alexander Allen
good choice, I did the same for the n3ds the faceplates were too alluring
Austin Fisher
They're the nice matte kind, right? I hear the glossy ones are terrible.
Hunter Hernandez
Posted this on a different thread and got no response, does xenoblade 3d look that bad? Or is people bitching mostly because we are on the internet? And does MH Generations have a lot less content compared to 4U? Can only buy xenoblade or MH Generations.
Alexander Green
yeah, though different faceplates will have different finishes. The 20th anniversary pokemon ones are nice matte though.
And full disclosure the nxl does have a larger battery capacity than the n3ds, but what with the larger screens I don't know how much that actually affects battery life.
Aaron Bailey
I bought the red xl a few days ago, not that I had a lot of choice in colors but it looks really nice, though it's true that's a magnet for fingerprints because of the glossy surface.
Alexander Gomez
Alright, thanks again. The 20th anniversary is only $350 on Amazon, so I'll order it sometime in the next few weeks.
Anthony Russell
Yeah, unfortunately this long after release you're unlikely to find it for cheaper, being a special edition and one of the 2 released in NA that are the normal n3ds. Unless you live in the sticks and can find it in a store.
Good luck
Gabriel Morales
>tfw too poor to buy a N3DS
I'll just stick to my regular 3DS I guess..
Robert Baker
on the other hand you could pick up the happy home designer n3ds bundle and get the pokemon 20th anniversary faceplates secondhand and it would likely work out to be cheaper
Levi Richardson
>Upgrade from 3DS to N3DSXL >mfw anyone hands me a 3DS
It's so fucking tiny, it's hard to imagine that I ever used this. I have to bring it to my face to see as well as I can on the XL.
Jaxson Baker
Yeah, but for around $50 more, I can get it all brand new, and Pokémon Red and Blue bundled in. I haven't played a difficult Pokémon game in a while, so it's more worth it to me. Thanks for all your help. The one on Amazon will be US region, right?
Connor Stewart
Yeah should be US, and with the firmware it comes with out of the box you could always throw cfw on it (if you're into the whole piracy shtick ). If it's worth it though I can't argue against going for the pokemon bundle.
Xavier Russell
I used to have it lying around in in my drawers, and I was looking for it one day. I'd look at it and continue on my search thinking it was my DS for ages until I saw my actual DS and put two and two together.
Mason Torres
Where do you guys buy your faceplates? I used to get some from Amiami but they never restock any of their old ones.
Jacob Carter
>I prefer the regular New overall because i (and i only speak of myself) would honestly have wrist aches from holding the New XL for long periods of time This a thousand times. I bought New XL for my girlfriend as a graduation gift and I've been using it from time to time, and it's way too big for comfort. Might be my baby hands, but still.
Matthew Collins
Cartridges are region locked, it's why you need CFW or at least access to homebrew in the first place. You also need to language emulate via Luma(Requires you to create a txt file and so forth for each game you play) to make sure it doesn't fuck it up even if it is English. However, once you do install Luma it'll work with cartridges natively, but you have to pirate DLC and patches since you can't access the NA eShop and you have to do the title thing as well to play it properly.
David Thompson
You're going to end up buying a protector for it anyway since they scratch as quick as Micro screens which is to say "In an instant". Just get a TPU Gel case for the thing so your $30+ plates aren't damaged.
Dominic Stewart
I got the old 3ds, it's fucking tiny, I suggest either the new 3ds or new 3ds xl
