Should i play Cross?
From what i believe the opinions are mixed, why is that?

Too many butthurt fanboys wanted a direct sequel. Ignore them, it's a good game in it's own right.

It's a decent game, though everything is different from what you just did in CT.

There are far fewer double and triple tech moves, despite the fuckhuge cast of possible party members.
You can recruit everyone and their damn mother.
The story will suddenly appear out of nowhere and be totally forced down your throat approximately 18 minutes before the game concludes.

It's worth at least one playthrough, though no one will blame you for dropping it early.

Cross is essential op, it gets mixed reviews for its big cast and complex story but they pull off both extraordinarily well with all the characters providing unique commentary in key moments and providing one of the pinnacles of storytelling in games. Also doesn't hurt that it has the GOAT OST

The lack of Toriyama hurt it

Dalton was another joke villain that Toriyama loves to make, he even breaks the fourth wall & yells at the shitty music to stop, so the CC team decides to make him murder the original cast

Don't listen to Trigger babies. Cross is one of the best JRPGs out there.

Great fucking game, music is on point

Chrono Trigger may be the superior game but trigger babies expecting Cross to be a direct sequels seem to get disappointed. It's a really good game but I guess a mediocre sequel. One thing I'd say is character development isn't as good as it was with CT

Cross is fine for the most part. OST on par with CT, story is fine even if it's a bit convoluted. I think the worst parts are the huge cast you can get, most of which do not get much development or are irrelevant to the main story, and the new battle system. It's OK by itself but overall a downgrade from Trigger.

It isn't a sequel. So people who expect that are let down. The battle system is different. Again, people who expect the same will be let down. I still think it is a great game.

Cross shits all over Trigger. Hell, most of the Trigger cast is killed off screen and Robo is killed in front of your eyes

chrono cross has fuck nothing to do with chrono trigger other than they hamfistedly put the character from the original into the plot and it all ends up being very very stupid

chrono cross has a great soundtrack, graphics so clean and detailed that almost look like an early ps2 game and a huge diverse cast of character (like i think there is like 40 different character and they include very stupid shit like a pink dog, a giant voodoo doll and a skeleton clown) however this is married by a lot of annoying character who all speak in very silly accents, a story that makes no sense most of the time and a somewhat annoying battle system

i think overall it's a game worth checking out but it's a far far cry from chrono trigger

As a sequel to trigger it's awful. Little to nothing from trigger is in Chross until like the last 10% of the story.
As a standalone JRPG it's pretty fucking great. It honestly would have been fine if it hadn't been made as a sequel.

the problem is that the main plot gets to be kinda a trainwreck.

I just hate the horridly botched 'save nature' theme to it all.
