I'm going on vacation in a couple of days and I need a handheld game for the roadtrip and for rainy days. Which should I get?
I've been planning on playing this at some point but I didn't keep up with the news or anything, I didn't even know this came as two separate fucking games. Does it matter which if you can download the other afterwards or is it not worth playing both?
Jaxson Anderson
The one that isn't censored. Oh, wait...
Juan Lee
user. if you must play Fire Emblem Fates, pirate the fan translation.
Jack Thompson
Conquest is generally taken as the better one in terms of gameplay while Birthright is generally seen as better in the story department. Revelation is supposed to be in the middle in both but personally I found the story real stupid in that route. Once you buy one you can download the other two, at around half(?) cost. If you feel fairly confident/been through a couple of FEs before or if you feel like you want to to start with the harder route go with Conquest. If you started with Awakening and feel a little shakey in terms of series confidence OR you want to get the easier route of the way, play Birthright first.
Xavier Richardson
Out of interest has the difficulty been polished at all or is this just more of the same. I found Awakening reasonably challenging but nothing really tough most of the time, but I found I got super pissed off at things like reinforcements spawning directly behind you and then getting their turn
Cooper Lopez
They're honestly shit, people can try to convince you that the gameplay saves it, but the story and characters are just so awful regardless of which version you get. It also has the completed story locked behind a $20 paywall. It's just bad.
If you like turn based games you can sink a lot of hours into try one of these, >Braverly Default >Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon >Mario and Luigi Paper Jam
And its not turnbased, but I can guarentee you'll have more fun playing Monster Hunter than Fire Emblem.
Be kind to yourself, you deserve better than this.
Bentley Jenkins
Conquest plays like older FE so there's progression from chapter to chapter with extremely limited grinding and no free movement on the world map. If you wish in that route, you can buy kekthe Exp DLC or use castle battles.
Personally I felt like Birthright overall improved on Awakening but overall it can be just as easy, especially if you use Lord Lobster who can steamroll the route if you let him. >reinforcements spawning directly behind you and then getting their turn It's been a bit since I've played but I don't believe that they do that in this game.
Nathaniel Bennett
This is my go to portable game. Find the DLC mission download and you are swimming in missions of all difficulties.
Valkyria Chronicles 3 is handheld gaming perfection, in short.
Chase Russell
>Flora in the Conquest cover >She doesn't join until obscenely late
I'll never not be mad.
Jeremiah Wright
Is it in English? Does it run in PPSSPP?
Cameron Price
Oh hey, I'm playing through the first one on Steam, I really enjoy it, even if the story is a bit cheesy.
Is 3 more of the same or is it completely different from the first? I don't mind changes in story/characters, just interested in the gameplay.
Cooper Barnes
Yes, the main story is in english and a bunch of side missions are translated too, but some are missing. DLC sub stories arent translated, but the mission info (what you need to know to clear the mission) is all translated. Yes it works in PPSSPP
Thomas Martinez
I recently started Conquest and feel like I'd rather just be playing Awakening again instead.
Dylan Smith
What's your issue?
Henry Peterson
3 is the best in the series gameplay wise, featuring rebalances that 1 was sorely missing with the added tactical depth from 2. It is more of the same with nothing but improvements. It also has a cool tie in mission with the VC1 gang which youll appreciate. If you want more VC after beating 1, 3 is a must play. I have around 400 hours in it, just from replaying missions, even ones that I've beaten. I wasn't kidding when I called it handheld gaming perfection.
John Wilson
DO NOT buy these games. This is not some mad raving, I'm deadrly serious, they are horrible. The writing and story is an abomination and it made me stop playing at Mission 15, I just couldnt go on.
If you need a game that keeps you playing for a long time, get a Monster Hunter instead.
Oliver King
Awesome, I love games you can just dive in nonstop, absolutely gonna look into getting this. Have you played Disgaea? Play a good SRPG instead.
Charles Young
Monster Hunter is shit without Internet
Dominic Stewart
I have a disgaea game on my psp, not sure which. I played a little of it but got lost and confused in all the menus and the anime graphics for the disgaea series is kinda ugly imo. I know theres a solid game underneath but I just haven't given it a chance yet, but I will get back to it one day
Carson Parker
Its better than the shitshow that is FE Fates.
Eli Roberts
Anything in particular that you had a problem with in Fates? In terms of gameplay/story?
Eli Flores
uh oh, we got a triggered pedophile on the loose.
Evan Miller
Chances are you have Disgaea 1.
Disgaea 2 is infinitely better, a massive leap in gameplay and overall polish as well as an obscene amount of ingame content, I honestly can't tell you how many hours I've put into it, but if it's not your cup of tea that's too bad.
Julian Murphy
...
Wyatt Sullivan
The Gameplay is fine, its on the level with Awaken, just without grinding levels in random missions (at least when you go Conquest). But the story.. everything characters say, its all so incredibly stupid and cringey. If your okay with skipping every line of dialogue, you might have fun.
Isaiah Torres
The entire official translation of Fates is a shitshow.
Pirate fan translation or don't play it at all.
Kevin Wood
>The Gameplay is fine, its on the level with Awaken, just without grinding levels in random missions (at least when you go Conquest). That's what I thought you were gonna say.
Chase Bennett
Not that guy. But I spent 120 hours in Awakening and I could barely do 20 in all 3 versions of Fates.
The characters are a step down since they're way flatter than the ones in Awakening, and those were flat enough already. Also the story is complete and utter nonsense, and making the MyUnit character also the center of the story feels disjointed, dumb, and forced. I liked it much better how Robin was also a protagonist but he took the back-seat to Chrom and Lucina, and wasn't even required in most missions. All in all, Fates wasn't as good as Awakening, and Awakening wasn't as good as the Tellius games.
Noah Edwards
That's funny though, so it's OK.
James Smith
Your problem being?
Jordan Garcia
It's not the first FE that stuff changed in localization. I've played it and I've had no problem with it outside of story. But thanks for your imput user.
Parker Flores
Whatever you think it is.
Cooper Bailey
>Chapter 19 in Conquest >Chapter 22 in Revelation >Both are optional recruitments via the MyCastle building system
Why do they go out of their way to shove her boring twin sister into our faces yet make it rather tedious to get the better meido?
Grayson Cooper
I bought Conquest and couldnt finish it Its honestly one of the worst story ive ever played, the characters are all anime cliches and waifu bait, i honestly think even awakening was a better FE than this shit Also, fucking gimmick levels
Michael Wood
I generally agree with this. I'm generally okay with Fates, but it feels like a lot of missed potential in terms of characterization and story. The whole Valla arc felt simultaneously really half assed yet really forced and it at times made no sense.
Nolan Scott
I admire you for being able to finish even one campaign. This is probably the worst game I played on my 3ds and I've played one of the newer Pokemon editions on there.
Michael Myers
> nintencucks are once again defending the horrible localization and giving nintendo a free pass for a shitty translation job and censorship
Isaac Martin
>Fates worse than XY/ORAS Yeesh, that's really saying something.
OP if you're still here you should really reconsider getting Fates, there are better RPGs on the 3DS, and if you're someone who's into SRPGs, Fire Emblem is about as shitty as it gets.
Isaac Moore
If you thought Conquest was the "gimmick" route, Revelation will blow your mind. I wouldn't even put it as worst game. It's just slightly higher than mediocre in my book. I've had the SE since the NA launch and I've played through Conquest and Birthright. Revelation burned me out though. k. At this point those who want to play will either do the localization or the fan translation which both have the their issues or they just won't play at all.
Angel Baker
Just fucking get Stella Glow and skip this garbage.
Lucas Bailey
>IP count didn't change
Juan Davis
>FE will continue to sell despite being unbearably awful because waifufags will buy anything with tits on the cover
Grayson Rivera
Yes because I was:
Christopher Reyes
>nintencuck to the rescue
Lucas Myers
k
Jose Anderson
Me?
Jonathan Smith
Actually FE Fates sold because the 3DS had a drought of new games at the time and they were willing to buy anything.
John Nelson
Fuck I'm tired, I meant I was:
(You)
Oliver Johnson
I honestly really liked the Fates games except for some story parts. Be sure to play on Hard though, only the last chapters on Conquest are difficult on hard.
Ryder Allen
I use her anyway, it's not that hard to catch her up. Especially if you logbook her, give her better skills and reclass her.
Nathan Barnes
I do use her. She's my Revelation waifu. For Conquest the lack of grinding really makes it hard to use her, despite her arriving earlier. Her main weak point is Spd, which can become fairly serious if you get really unlucky with her level ups.
She's fairly blessed in my current Revelation playthrough though. Plus save editors are a thing.
Samuel Adams
What was people's problem with X/Y? I felt like it was the first good mainline pokemon game since gen 3 but I've heard people throw a lot of shit at it..
Charles Scott
She also has access to 4 breaker skills you know?
Benjamin Robinson
Two of which are incredibly useful if she decides to stay a Maid: Bowbreaker and Axebreaker, especially with her low Lck. Shurikenbreaker is nice too since she will have trouble fighting the faster Master Ninjas. Tomebreaker is probably one of the least useful -Breaker skills.
I always end her as a Maid though.
James Ramirez
Unless you've already tried the series and know for a fact you don't like it, I'd really recommend Monster Hunter (4U is better as a first game than Generations).
You can sink potentially 2-400 hours into each entry, and there's a ton of depth with rewarding boss fights and deep upgrade systems/hidden mechanics. You can look after your farm and upgrade your felyne kitchen between hunts, or do some of the event quests to unlock weapon/armor sets from other Nintendo series. It can be a little hard to click with for the first 4-5 hours but honestly, once it clicks it'll become one of your favourites. I think a roadtrip is one of the best times to get into MH since you can dedicate a little time to getting started. After that your only problem will be the 3DS battery life.
Luke Kelly
I made her a hero with the 4 breaker and lifetaker. She held her own, especially with the sword, axe combo. My s-support bonuses really carried her too. It's good fun. It's just a shame they gave up on giving the endgame characters one or two support chains.
Hunter Hill
A lot of people have recommended that, but I don't really want a huge timesink. I want something that's like 10 hours I can play through in the roadtrip there and back and maybe one rainy day. I kinda want something that's like a JRPG or tactics style game.
Caleb Powell
It's a pain to go through not one but two E-weapons by that time into the game. More viable reclass options for her would be Master Ninja if you marry her or Dread Fighter. Lifetaker doesn't seem that good on her honestly because of her lacklustre defense. If you allow for grinding Swordmaster pretty much fixes all of her issues with Spd, and Lck (her bulk sn't worth salvaging in my opinion).
Jordan Cox
I want to swap lifetaker for speedtaker when second season dlc comes out. I beat the three paths and when I'm bored I'm slowly working on filling up my logbook and catching all the bosses and a few generics to make future playthroughs fresh. I've already got the amiibos etc. I'm on a lunatic run for pick related right now.
Carter Morales
>When second season DLC comes out
Eurobro?
Are Rallyman and Fuuga the only good Master of Arms in this game? The class itself sucks but the former is an enemy which means he will make the class look good and the latter have dem bases.
Liam Davis
Ausfag. Season 1 just finished. It hurts to be a fire emblem fan here.
Oliver Brooks
Also pretty much. You can sink some time into making Effie a very good Master of Arms if you give her a chance. Only downside is it's Rev only.
Leo Gray
Why does Nintendo hate Aussies?
I always imagined she'd be a good Master of Arms, Spear Master, or even Blacksmith as her Hoshidan classes. Imagine if the subhumans pass down their primary class instead of secondary to their spouses though. Wolfsnigger!Effie with Effie!Velouria that possesses Armoured Blow sounds fucking hilarious.
Cooper White
Ah, okay. Specifically for the 3DS? Most JRPGs and tactics games are significantly longer than 10 hours. Final Fantasy Tactics A2 is one of the best strategy games available on the 3DS full stop, but it's a pretty long game. Most of the decent ones are original DS games. You also have SMT: Devil Survivor 1/2, Advance Wars, Strange Journey, Dark Spire, Radiant Historia, Dragon Quest 4/5/6 etc. If you're willing to go back then you'll be sorted for years with fantastic, and I mean fantastic games. If you're limiting yourself to 3DS only then you have Fire Emblem, Ghost Recon, Bravely Default, Tales of the Abyss and Fantasy Life. None of them are as good as any of the DS games mentioned.
If you're up for something a little different in a great 10 hour experience, check out 999.
Parker Ross
If you have a Vita or PSP, get either FFT: War of the Lions or Tactics Ogre: LUCT. The definitive two games of the genre, and almost perfect games aside from a couple of balance issues.
James Gray
Reinforcement bullshit has been fixed. It's harder than Awakening, but at least it is hard in fair way instead of "lul trial and error, fucker" -style surprises.
Carter Ortiz
's suggestions are pretty good. Also consider FFTA or any Disgaea title.
I highly recommend Fantasy Life as well because it's the kind of game you can drop for a while and then jump back in full force. It's like Animal Crossing mixed with Monhun, but you have the choice to be a fighter or just a guy who cooks or explores places for treasure. Lots of stuff to do and it's all good. If you want an SRPG on the 3ds go with Stella Glow, though I think Braverly Default is a better RPG overall.
Limiting yourself to FE is just setting up for disappointment, OP.
