Why does everyone hate gen 4?
Why does everyone hate gen 4?
Platinum is literally the pinnacle of the series and metaphorically has the best soundtrack.
slow, very little improvements to the game besides 3D styled graphics
I hate to play gen 3, but even I understand that gens 3 and 5 were the most technically impressive pokemon games.
Because D/P were so fucking slow and lacked a good portion of story related content. Also Mt. Coronet.
Luckily Platinum fixed both of those things and turned out to be one of the best experiences in the entire series.
Gen 1 was the pinnacle, it has been down hill from there.
S L O W
HG/SS were elder god tier despite this--given your choice of image I assume you mean the original titles. D/P were unremarkable, and Platinum was much better, but D/P/Pt can't hold a candle to the Gen V games or Gen IV remakes.
...
...
Why do people think Gen V was amazing? It was the most boring in my opinion. The battle mechanics were great, but the story and region were boring, and it had horrendous pixillated graphics. Plus, the soundtrack was mediocre. That said, the most important thing are battle mechanics...
Sort of like Gen 3 except it had a time system and it somehow shittier. Cyrus was tryhard terrible and they went overboard with legendary trying to 1-up eachother in importance/edgyness into they literally became GOD.
Also the pokemon selection was terrible. But at least it didn't jump the shark like Black and White.
gen 2 is the most technically impressive imo. Iwata himself managed to compress the game so much that they just threw kanto in there too.
Huh. I'd say the gen 5 story was the best. It was quite dark, all about animal abuse and orphans and shit. I loved it up until the end. Not mention battles were MUCH faster than gen 4
ugly ass designs that started the overdesigned arguemnts, shitty pokegear thing on the bottom screen with 90% useless features, too many legendaries, and too many evolutions. some of which a lot of people did not find satisfying
Gen 4 was unmemorable. Outside of Cynthia just being waifu bait, the whole region is forgettable, the legendaries suck, the mainline pokemon suck because all you find up until the 3rd gym is bug pokemon and normal pokemon, the music even sucks save some of the battle themes for a few legendaries
over all the game was a forgettable mess. Platinum was what D/P should have originally been and the Platinum then should have been remarkably better.
>the story and region were boring
On their own? Maybe.
Compared to the other gens? As in, every single other Pokemon game? It was the best. There was no contest.
>region was boring
What? It had literally everything. Forest, desert, awesome cities, forests, beach, fun bridges.
It was objectively the best region, only just beating Hoenn.
>pixillated graphics
I'll give you that but so did every other gen?
>soundtrack was mediocre
What?!
youtube.com
Also I realised I said forest twice. It's bedtime here, give me a break.
if by gen 4 you mean sinnoh, then honestly it would be bad because it was slow. not just the overworld, but the animations as well.
you know something is wrong when the move "extremespeed" has one of the longest fucking animations in the game.
i could nitpick at other things that bother me, but honestly it was pretty fucking solid otherwise. great region with amazing cave system thanks to mt cornet.
plenty of trainers and a decent post-game. introducing the physical/special split and new evolution paths as well as comfiest sound card made for a 8/10 region.
i unironically hope sinnoh gets remade with 3ds hardware so that we can experience how it was meant to be played without any negatives.
I fucking hated Mt Coronet as well as the snow region entirely.
I personally thought gen 4 was the best. I loved platinum to death. On the other hand, gen 3 was an abomination.
They shouldn't.
The physical/special split automatically makes any game previous to Gen 4 obsolete. The region itself may not be the best in some areas but what it added to the game was nothing but positive. In fact, I would never recommend someone who has never played a pokemon game before to play anything prior to Gen 4.
i felt design-wise it worked really well to tie the region together, and exploring different parts of it developed a sense of progression.
but some people still don't know how to use a repel, so to each their own i guess.
But user, it's my favorite gen. It has the most memorable legendaries after Gen 1.
Even though that title screen silhouette has no articulation, I thought it was the coolest thing when I booted up Pearl for the first time. This region feels like the last grand "adventure", with the cave system and snow regions being large, less forgiving maps than the ones we've had since these entries (Gen V's desert had a fucking road going through it if you didn't want to explore).
The honey tree system can stay absolutely dead though
>mfw GameFreak had the good sense in latter games to allow you to refresh your Repel on the spot without opening your bag each time
I just couldn't get into Unova. In hindsight, the biggest reason were the graphics. By this, I mean the awful animations during the Pokemon battles and the attempts at making the world more 3D. Also, I found the music in Platinum to be superior. For example, Cynthia's theme, that creepy music which plays in the Old Chateau, the song for Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf ect.
If it wasn't so slow, I'd go back. Hopefully, if we get a remake, it's sped up and isn't disappointing.
>hating on the poketch
literally the only good thing about gen 5. tm re-use is debatable.
I love gen 4, it's my favorite
I really did like the exploration parts of DPPt
Trekking up through Mount Coronet and it's frozen surface was something else and very atmospheric for me
too slow
barren regional dex
but don't worry, I hate it far less than gen 2 which funnily enough is also part of gen 4 through the remakes, giving those games gen4's issue of slowness
I agree
I wasn't a fan of the pokemon in it but the ability to transfer pokemon over from your GBA games so easily was fucking fantastic.
Gen V was the best but I personally never liked re-usable TMs. In the older games, choosing which TMs to use was great because they were limited, and it encouraged you to wait and see what moves your Pokemon learned naturally.
>not mentioning the best song
youtube.com
>Cyrus is only 27 yrs old
I call bullshit.
I played:
yellow
leaf green
emerald
Where do I go from here? i'm thinking about buying a n3ds but that's basically the price of a decent gpu.
Is true.
...
Because it's the worst Gen, why the fuck else
>Platinum apologists
lol
I think a better question is why the fuck you're not playing Platinum.
Why the fuck play DP instead of Pt?
shut the hell up, you know its true
Anywhere you please. But ideally GSC or HGSS, not only because HGSS are the best games in the series but also because they're more or less direct sequels to two of the three games you've played
>that
>even close to the best son
Step aside
youtube.com
Then there's of course Jubilife city's music and a bunch of route themes that are better than the team galactic song.
In this order:
Platinum > Heart Gold or Soul Silver > Black or White > Black or White 2 (play the same colour) > either X or Y
Not that XY is good, but they are important.
just play it on your phone or tablet in bed
you can also use a controller via Bluetooth if touchscreen controls aren't for you
Because after Pearl I would rather castrate myself than go back to Sinnoh. I remember it was bad and the improvements seem pretty lackluster.
Anywhere, at the core it's always the same shit. Ideally go in order and if you get bored with a game just move onto the next one.
Is Gen VI really that bad?
No, it's just recent.
your list is backwards, m8.
>Difficulty hack of ORAS
>First Gym leader is a 6 Pokémon staller with Stealth Rock and Sticky Web
>Second gym leader takes like 5 hits to kill with super effective attacks
I'm getting destroyed here, how long until I start finding good Pokémon?
Also Swampert is at level 30 and has yet to get a single physical water/ground move, like jesus fuck the phys/spec split was such a goddamn mistake
>It was quite dark, all about animal abuse and orphans and shit.
Eh? Gen 5 does acknowledge that humans abusive towards Pokemon do exist, considering those abused Pokemon are who N spent his childhood with, but the truth of the matter is that the Pokemon world is still much more of an utopia where everyone is nice than the real one. The darkest thing about the plot was N being an orphan who was raised from the ground up and brainwashed to be a perfect "hero" drone for Team Plasma and Ghetsis' world domination plot.
It was still a nice story
Yes.
>almost zero post game
>least amount of new Pokemon of any gen
>very few fun new features
(You)
>20th anniversary pokemon 2ds is now worth more than a new 3ds xl
Nintendo please, why do they make so few and encourage scalping, Australian stores were bought out online by asian resellers in the first few days and never restocked.
Not even baiting, this is the most accurate one of these things I've ever seen.
B/W 2 really raised the bar in terms of world events and Pokemon options. I can't remember all the Pokemon that appeared on the route before the Poison gym city, but they definitely weren't limited to a regional bird, bug, and rattata/sentret/zigzagoon of the generation. Riolu was there too if you had patience for the 5% encounter rate.
OR/AS at the bottom of the barrel is a little harsh, but it wasn't quite as big of a leap over its predecessors as HG/SS. Mauville was a bit of a cluster fuck too and the free Latios/Latias was stupid. Delta story was neat but it's a 1 hour sidequest, and not the Battle Frontier
Remember what website you're on. On here, popular = bad.
I enjoyed gen 6.
Gen4 added some good things like the Physical/Special change, differences between genders and RUNNING INTO BUILDINGS, but it was so boring, slow and forgettable. The framerate downgraded to 30, and eveything about the NPCs (evil faction, rival, elite 4) manages to be even worse and blander than Gen3. At least Cynthia as the champion was good I guess.
search your feelings. you know it's true.
...
gen 1's shit? that's like, Hating Pokémon.. do u even like Pokémon.
You are literally retarded if you think Gen 1 is the best.
Gen 1 is like Metroid while all the latter games are Super Metroid.
It was incredibly short, had little post-game content, was easy as fuck, and the legendaries were pretty lame.
The only cool thing about X/Y were the new features and the camera being more like the Gamecube Pokemon titles in some segments.
>popular = bad
Are you fucking retarded? The entire Pokemon series as a whole is popular as fuck. Your comment makes no sense whatsoever.
Platinum is great, HG/SS should be great but I never finished it for some reason, but D/P are straight up terrible and nearly impossible to play because they're so fucking slow
Maybe I'll go play HG/SS again though and try to beat it
Absolutely. Why? Absolutely no post game content and barely any new Pokemon, there's a ton of smaller issues as well, but those are the two major ones. Don't listen to the apologists, they're meming you.
morimoto based af
I like Gen 1 for all of the urban legends that surrounded it. It made the game feel much bigger than what it really was. We don't really get urban legends anymore. Nowadays what you see is what you get.
As the years go by Pokemon learn new and better moves earlier and earlier though, you can see this trend if you play generations far apart from each other in succession. In gen1 everything learned piddly shit so you needed TMs to be competent and had to manage who gets what, in the more recent games infinite use TMs represent new options for customization that are handed to you/can be found at set points in the game.
I mean, in ORAS Xatu learns Psychic at lv35 instead of somewhere in the lv50+ range. in GSC or HGSS I always make do with stuff like Night Shade/Confuse Ray/Fly/something until I get to Kanto and can get the Psychic TM from Saffron to teach the move 20 levels before it could otherwise be learned.
I would agree with this except I just don't understand Sup Forums's massive boner for HGSS.
Say what you will about gen VI. Skating through the streets of Poke-Paris will always be the comfiest thing you can ever do in a Pokemon game, ever.
Huh? Gens 3 - 5 all had them.
I stopped playing Pokémon after gen 1, because everything after gen 1 was/looked/felt retarded.
I can't agree with this. In Gen 1 things were pretty damned stilted and barebones like the fact that you couldn't rematch anyone so once you caught Mewtwo you had nothing else to do but fight the Elite Four for the rest of forever
Pokémon Stadium was also Gen 1.
That has nothing to do with the game at all, that's just because you and all your friends didn't know how to use the Internet. That's like saying Y was the best because while I was playing that I win the lottery.
Like what? Not disagreeing because this sort of thing comes down to children being children but I want to hear some. Only one I know is that a friend told me when you get to Sky Pillar you can go to Johto and Kanto. Gen 4 pretty much had legit ones like Shaymin and Arceus' areas. Can't think of anything for Gen 5.
Are Black and White 2 worth playing? I've started HG again out of nostalgia but I'm really bored and I don't have enough pennies for a 3DS.
There were things I liked about Delta Episode (new character interactions mostly, and fucking Deoxys) but Zinnia was NOT one of them
If the purpose of Delta Episode was to make the player hate her guts and think she's one of the most dangerous people in the Pokemon world they succeeded
Very much so but play Black/White first. Also, if you play Black then play Black 2 and if you play White then play White 2.
yes
There was also the rocket being able to take you to the moon at 50 launches to catch jirachi and 100 to catch deoxys. Or ones about the house in mossdeep that had a door blocked by trees. There are tons for every gen, you just wouldn't know if you have grown up and use the Internet.
I played Black but dropped it post Elite Four for some reason. I really did like that it was solely new Pokemon up until that point though.
Also I have no idea where people get roms these days. I haven't done this shit for about ten years.
Fucking hell yes.
Absolutely. Both BW and B2W2 are my favourites in the series right now.
Has Glaceon.
>if you play Black then play Black 2 and if you play White then play White 2
Why is this?
I find Emerald to be unplayable garbage. Infact, fuck gen 3 so much. That gen was nothing but a huge pain in the ass back in it's day..
The only reason i've replayed it as many times as I have because I dont mind losing all my progress on it each time because it's a shit game. Gen 3 in general felt like two steps forward, two steps backs
b&w2 are one of the best games in the series
i don't understand people who say they're pokemon fans and haven't played b&w and b&w2
youtu.be
guys, listen to this
Because the world and story in Black/White carries on to its respective Black/White 2.
except emerald was fucking amazing and you're a baby
it's just that people collectively haven't forgiven gamefreak for not repeating gold/silver's postgame
OK, but first listen to this
That's exactly why I personally dislike Gen V though. Animal rights have always been a huge issue with the Pokemon world and I was hoping they would actually shed some light on the subject. But instead, they went LOL POKEMON ENJOY FIGHTING TO THE DEATH FOR YOUR AMUSEMENT! CARRY ON!!!
i could understand not liking Black/White. But B2/W2 are great games, and even if it's not your favorite, i wish people would stlll acknowledge it for being a good game
Which gen was it where there was an ice pokemon with dots , I never caught all of them, there was a rock one as well. What was up with those puzzles?
based
Gen 3. You're thinking of Regice and Regirock. There is also Registeel.
except it wasnt. it's fucking outdated shit. Also. going back to kanto, muh two regions was also shit. It barely caused both regions to be bare fucking bones. I was talking about how Ruby/Sapphire have no postgame content other than some legendaries (at the time, before emerald fixed that somewhat).
Why does Sup Forums love gen 5 so much? I played black until I finished the story, and then forgot about it, and I dropped black 2 after that one bridge because it was boring and the gen 5 graphics look like trash.
