>accidentally buy a game for whatever reason
>initially hate it
>keep playing it to not feel like you've wasted money
>over time begin to enjoy the game after sinking so many hours in
Has this ever happened to anybody?
Accidentally buy a game for whatever reason
I don't even play all the game I did want, why would I force myself to play one I didn't?
This happened to me with Witcher 1 and Warhammer 40k: Chaos Gate
I'm not sure how you accidentally buy something.
far cry 2
I don't buy shit games
Sonic Unleashed
>accidentally buy a game for whatever reason
How do you accidentally buy a game? I can get buying something without thinking, seeing it on sale thinking why not, getting it as a gift, but not accidentally buying it.
Anyway, this pretty much perfectly describes Witcher 3 for me. I hated it initially. The combat was awful, follow the red, but the more I played the more drawn in I got. For me, the best part of the game is just walking around on your own, no main quest, in some far flung corner of the world and finding a cave, exploring it, and finding nice loot.
Not by accident.
I originally bought Dragon Quest 8 just for the FF12 demo. But then I sat down and played DQ8 and loved it.
I was a fool.
Mount and Blade: Warband
>start it up for the first time
>what the fuck this game's combat is shit
>I will be just fighting stupid ass pillagers the whole time? Fuck that
Got somewhat bored half a year later
>boot it up again, whatever
>force myself through the beginning
>change up some settings
>80 hours played
I only bought DQ8 because you could turn into a Super Saiyan.
Those marketers knew what they were doing.
>Banjo Kazooie Nuts and bolts.
I bought it just because it was B&K. Hated it. But then during a summer games drought I gave it another try and git really creative and enjoyed myself.
>accidentally buying something
American/Daddy's spoiled step son problems I guess.
X3: Terran Conflict for sure. Absolutely loathed it and was tempted to take it back, but accidentally damaged the manual so couldn't.
Decided to persevere and one day everything clicked and I fell in love with it.
Happened to me with Fire Emblem Path of Radiance. I bought it on impulse because "Hey, this is the game Ike in Smash Brothers is from!"
Didn't like it at first but I eventually loved it enough that I bought Radiant Dawn and the 2 GBA games
So I guess accidentally buying something with my own hard-earned money while drugged out on sleep medication means I'm some rich kid?
I always finish a game that i buy because i feel an obligation to do so, otherwise it feels like a waste of money, i struggled finishing ac unity but thougt "spent 80$ might as well finish"
>red faction guerrilla
>bought along with THQ bundle years ago
>hardly accidentally bought, but i didn't want it.
>not a fan of sci-fi stuff, but enjoyed it anyway.
I went into a store looking for peace walker and momentarily forgot the title. I ended up buying portable ops plus instead
I never touched it
Deadly Premonition
Fallout New Vegas was like this though I still think the game isn't anywhere near as good as people say.
Morrowind is the biggest example for me though. I got it on the fucking Xbox and I still loved it after I got used to the garbage combat.
>How do you accidentally buy a game?
I bought Ehrgeiz thinking it was Einhander. I didn't remember the full name, just that it was some weird name that started with E. Was very disappointed when I got home and played.
And yes, over time I started enjoying it. No regrets.
Tales of Xillia 2
I like walking around in Gamestop and there was a limited edition of the game so I bought it on a whim.
Me and my brother had such a good time and since that was our first Tales game we were pleasantly surprised
Earthbound
Xillia 2 has excellent combat (for 2 players only) and a decent story, it's just really lacking in the content with the repetitive missions and environments.
I agree. After finding out that they re-used so much content from Xillia 1 my opinion of it lowered drastically
7 days to die before the last few updates
europa universalis 3
>M&B Warband
It didn't feel like much at the beginning, but when I got into the flow of things it's fun as fuck.
>GTA IV
Felt pretty meh, but the driving and how to bully people grows on you.
The Witcher 1. Now its one of my fav rpgs
>Start playing game
>Love it at first
>Drop it for literally no reason
>Can never go back to playing it
>Go back to playing that shitty game you hate
Fuuka was such a stupid character
>buy binding of isaac
>play it once, don't really like it, never play again
>one day like a year later me and a bunch of friends are just hanging out playing vidya
>someone boots up Isaac, we take turns seeing how far we can get
>beat mom on my first run
>holy fuck this game is great
>100% that shit, continue playing for ages
shame afterbirth sucks dick
>What the fuck is this shit.
>People enjoy this crap
>So much fucking text
>Where am I supposed to go?
>No Map Markers?!
Granted, I was 15 back then.
Year later it became one of my favorite game series.
Dragon Age: Inquisition
I bought it on sale for $25, then began to regret it once I finished with the character creator and saw how bad my character looked in-game. That, plus the mediocre combat and grindy MMO experience made me drop the game for a few months. I forget what made me pick up the game again, but I made a Knight Enchanter and had a blast
The newest Fire Emblem.
>play a indie game or whatever
>mechanically it's solid, story is decent, had fun with it
>after several hours of playing it, turn it off and think about playing it the next day
>never fucking touch it again even though I had fun with it
why do i do this
oh hey
Destiny.
They got the hooks in me, man.
Dragon's Dogma. I started it two or three times and dropped it because I was so fucking bored back in vanilla and again when BBI released. Then the last time I played it it clicked and I ended up loving it to death. A diamond in the rough.
Nah. That's sunken cost fallacy. You wasted your money so you waste your time.
Yeah dreamfall last chapter
Technomancer.
