Why don't games just default to borderless windowed mode?

Why don't games just default to borderless windowed mode?

Like what's the point in having a difference between fullscreen and borderless windowed?

It has nice utility for multimonitor, makes it easier to tab out for single monitor set ups, and if you don't have multiple monitors or alt tab it still doesn't have any negative effect on you.

It hurts performance, only really noticeable on lower-end PCs but it depends on the game really

because borderless changes the way the CPU and GPU treat the process and it affects performance on low end systems.

I normally always used borderless windowed but it can cause lower framerates which is not an issue if your PC is half decent. It also locks you into your native resolution and refresh rate which in some cases someone might want to use a different resolution.

Not being able to change these should rarely be a problem but some people might want the option.

it has to pass the information to the window manager instead of having complete control of the graphics output. it decreases performance

from the perspective of the developer, do you want people playing your game in a gimped way just so they can tab out for (You)s and then bitch about how the game doesn't run well? I always like seeing it as an option though without needing some awful 3rd party software

The only major difference is I have a popup for changing podcasts in borderless windowed modes.

> game doesn't have borderless mode
> crashes when you alt tab in full screen

It affects performance on lower end PCs.

It should always be an options though honestly. Metal Gear Rising on PC had no option for it and for some reason its locked as some low ass refresh rate (30hz i think) and causes really bad flickering in the menus that hurts your eyes pretty quick. Had to use your pic to force windowed fullscreen.

Lower performance and input lag on Windows 10, because you can't disable WDM which forces vsync. Unless you play DX12 games, which should work better in borderless. At least that's what MS claims.

It's not the best for performance, lots of games can handle it fine, but sometimes borderless/fullscreen is the difference between 45fps and 60fps

>Like what's the point in having a difference between fullscreen and borderless windowed?
You got better performance on normal fullscreen.

You shouldn't need to alt tab anyway you ADD fuckhead

But what if I want to shitpost on Sup Forums in the middle of a game?

>Round ends
>About a minute or two before the next game starts
Standing around in spawn during a countdown gets boring after the 90th time

And you shouldn't need to suck dicks either.

>nobody mentioning the horrible input lag because of the forced v-sync

...

my bad user

I can't use freesync/gsync in borderless mode.

>input lag on Windows 10, because you can't disable WDM which forces vsync.
Windows 10 truly outclasses Windows 7 in every field.

>hurts performance
>may introduce crashing
>certain features can get locked out

B-BUT IT'S FREE
B-BUT MUH DX12
B-BUT MUH WINDOWS STORE

kill yourself

I knew what I was getting into when I updated. It will probably take another couple of years for it to become what it's supposed to be. But I rather start digging and learning all that shit now. W10 is the future, even if it's not the bright one.

>I will force myself to use an inferior operating system until they make it good, while having a superior alternative available at any time

you can't even meme that it's free anymore, that ended a week ago.
