How did Nintendo manage to go an entire generation without making a single good Mario game?
How did Nintendo manage to go an entire generation without making a single good Mario game?
>he didn't play 3DW
3D NSMB sucks user.
Are you admitting that the other 3 are shit?
Forgot mario maker, the only good one
Thanks for confirming that you didn't play
Smb u and 3DL were fun, but forgettable, never played nsmb2 but I heard it's the worst of the bunch
Is playing levels made by children and autists really that fun?
>Thanks for confirming that you didn't play
I've read over and over how it offered very low challange.
>people actually defend 3D World
What the fuck happened to this place?
Atleast you're not trying to pretend you played the game.
No I haven't played Mario Maker. Can you answer the question?
As just a lurker of Wii U threads, I haven't seen real criticism to the game until this week. Until now it has been either positive feedback or "le mario rehash" memeing.
I'm pretty certain it's only one guy by now, so why are you doing this user?
It's true, I didn't enjoy these as much as Mario Galaxy, and the new Paper Mario was inferior to every one before it. To me the problem with SM3DW is that I hate the level design, the levels should look like actual places that could exist. Instead, they all clearly look like they're just videogame stages, everything's too square and blocky, and whole levels are just a floating platform over nothingness.
That's why I preferred some of the castle stages, they looked like an actual castle(sometimes)
>I haven't seen real criticism to the game until this week
Probably because you're on Nintendogaf. This place is the only place that thinks it's the best 3D Mario. Remember that these are the same fags who intrinsically think ZombiU, Devil's Third, Sonic Lost World, and Mario Party 10 are good games.
You'd be surprised how good some autists are at making levels. I've played some magnificent stuff made by weirdly dedicated people
But those are pretty rare right? I'd imagine you have to comb through a lot of garbage made by children to find actual good levels
So you admit being from Neogaf or an equivalent?
>the levels should look like actual places that could exist. Instead, they all clearly look like they're just videogame stages
Too Verfremdungseffekt for you?
No.
Well atleast you admit it.
>actually exist
Why does that matter?
Honestly, not really. I've never felt I had to comb through garbage. Especially since the recent change to the top star ranking chart (removing most of the auto and meme shit, and leaving just a long list of actually well crafted/clever levels with high star rates), and lurking online places including occasionally Sup Forums where people go to share levels they are actually proud of, I've had a continuous feed of interesting and entertaining stuff to play.
I loved 3D Land, much better than the New SMB series and most levels had some surprising or impressive element that kept me going. Might have been too easy though.
All of these had potential to be great, but they were all too safe and lacked the spark behind the ideas presented to make them fun. Luigi U was legitimately fun, though.
not sure if spinoffs count but Mario Kart 8 was pretty good
I dunno, man. I just preferred levels like in SM64 where you can tell that these places could actually exist in Mario's world, many times during my playthrough of SM3DW I was just left there wondering why this level is clearly not a part of any world, it's just a floating mass belonging to nothing.
It's just something that takes me out and kinda bugs me. But I understand why people wouldn't mind this
While the top 2 are plain & uninspiring as fuck, the bottom 2 are good, they're just not nearly as good as their predecessors. Hopefully the newer games are better though, they seem to want to finally try & improve upon them.
All of those are good, 3DL is the weakest though, and the only reason people dont like New Soup 2/U are because they think its a rehash of 1/Wii but in reality they are much better and would be well liked if the previous ones didnt come out
>I've read
Thanks for confirming thar you didn't play
...
Lots of personal opinion in that post.
OP here, I did not make that post.
Prove it
Here ya go fucking crybaby.
I really enjoyed 3DW
How did one user manage to go an entire month without making a single good Mario bait thread?
Why?
>cropped to not show a (You) for reference
Reset his IP confirmed
>How did Nintendo manage to go an entirety of it's existence without making a single good game?
FTFY (fixed that for you)
Cry some more, bitchtits
A better question is why didn't you enjoy it OP?
Name some actually good games then
How is that a better question?
>Look at me, I want attention
How has Nintendo managed to go entire decades without making a single new game?
Superb game.
Finally a Mario game comes that breaks the formula of the 3D series to finally bring in its 2D roots faithfully, but with new world themes, and returning mechanics from Galaxy sprinkled in (as well as multiplayer). The hate for this game honestly makes no sense, and it always mysteriously without explanation.
That is a legitimate aesthetic disagreement between the 3D_s and 64/SS/Galaxy. While the earlier games deliberately try to create the sense of an immersive universe (and in Galaxy's case frequently appeals to the player's sense of beauty and wonder), the 3D_ games are deliberately designed to emphasize the constructed, game-y and artificial nature of what you are playing. They have enough vestiges of a story and characters to be cute and goofy, but they never treat this as anything more than decoration. The levels are floating boxes in space and arranged in neat, orderly straight lines, like you built them from lego sets or something. The games are self-consciously toys, well-made playthings.
It's not quite the same, but I'm reminded of SMB3 being set entirely in a theatre. It's a similar kind of distancing device, the reassurance that it's all a game.
How is it not?
He made an entire thread dedicated to his opinion, I'm sure that means he has a lot to say about it.
3D games ripping off 2D games is the epitome of laziness
It's fun
>ripping off 2D
What?
I guess Sunshine and Galaxy "ripping off" SM64 are also lazy games.
...
3D World just doesn't take advantage of the Wii U's extra power in any way. It could've been done on the Wii.
You put it in much better words than me, it's just not a style that I enjoy
>muh graphix
So you don't like traditional Mario?
Did you at least give it a try?
Splatoon
There is literally no excuse for 3DW not being 1080p since the levels are so fucking simple.
>Sup Forums
>contribution
I don't know what ridiculous arbitrary standards you made up in your head for a fucking super mario game, but they were fine.
A kinda fun to play for like 5-20 hours, depending on how much of a completionist you are and if you have children/women in your life, then move on, like a moderately sane, non-autistic human being.
Go start your fucking gay ass console war on fucking reddit or some shit you humongous faggot
Is New Super Mario Bros 2 worth playing? My sister gave me a copy of NSMB she had since she doesn't have a DS anymore and it's actually pretty fun.
It is 1080p
Of course, I played through all games in OP except for NSMB2. I don't mind this in 2D, but in 3D space it just bugs me. That's why I enjoyed Galaxy, Sunshine and 64 so much more
I enjoyed all of them.
Seems reasonable enough. My view is that the 2D games have felt very stale lately (too much NSMB), so the mix of 2D/3D was a welcome change for me - even if it means no "proper" 3D Mario.
>le 3D world is bad maymay
I heavily enjoying all of them besides 3D land
None of those are bad they're just not best in series.
The type of autism that compells people to make these images is fascinating
not even him, but isn't that what OP is doing aswell?
I'd rather these games over Super Overrated 64
>Ratings only matter when it's relevant to my argument
Not saying anything against 3dW Bu
t this needs to stop.
Yeah, N64 and gamecube times were tough.
3D World is one of the hardest Mario games though due to its huge post-game challenge levels.
3D World is the best 3D Mario easily.
Second best is 3D Land.
NSMB U was good.
NSMB 2 was bad.
3D Land was so-so.
3D World was bad.
Super Mario Maker was fantastic.
Knowing Neotendo the next major Mario title will be another New or 3D entry.
I thought Blitzmo finally died.
Well, time to filter again.
>nsmbu
>bad
sure thing
Ratings always matter
Nobody has mentioned it in this thread yet, but:
What if Nintendo makes a Wii U version of the new 3D Mario game too, just like Zelda?
It would do them a lot of good with the people who bought the Wii U... and they're looking for way more than just Wii U owners to buy an NX, so throwing them the new Mario for their loyalty would be worth more to Nintendo in the long run, then holding Mario over their head for an NX purchase.
dassabessdoe
jus platformin, fuckin
When will they movie to the right again, Sup Forums?
That's some mad skills right there.
sorry man I loved 3DW but the only hard level is the hard one and that is if you gimp yourself to not use powerups
Not saying other mario games are hard either
...
Cocaine my friend.
Sick meme kiddo.
God some of the top column games bring me back
3D world is more a mix of each of them rather than a SMB3 sequel.
I didn't say it was hard, just one of the hardest (it'd be the hardest if SMB2 JP didn't exist).
3D Land is far more impressive as a handheld title than 3D World is as a console title.
someone wasted time making this filling it with information everyone aleady knows
both garbage
I agree.
good bait
>far more impressive
What did he mean by this!
Wii U owners have the worst post-purchase rationalization of anyone I've ever seen. These are the same fags who unironically think ZombiU, Sonic Lost World, Devil's Third, and Mario Party 10 are good games. Their opinions are trash. Its laughable that you actually posted that thinking it's a valid point
As a game for babies, party babies must be great. As a game for gods, God Hand was underwhelming.
>sequels to main-line titles are spin-offs
explain how they're bad
3D World is an incredibly simple game, doesn't push the Wii U hardware at all, it really isn't impressive in the slightest. No excuse for it not being 1080p 60 fps when its so simple.
