FFO

hello Sup Forums i hope im not interrupting your meme threads with an actual video game. FFO is a ff1-3 inspired BYOND game (same engine as ss13) but has open world battles, open pvp, a town building system, tons of content, superbosses, and a diablo style loot system.

it's got a day/night as well as a seasonal cycle, with game time being 6x real time.

the only difficulty with this game is getting beyond the initial learning curve of the game itself and how clunky BYOND is (though you'd be used to that if you've played ss13)

im going to dump a few screenshots so you can see what the game is like. wiki is here, it shows you how to connect: ffo.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_Online_Wikia

It looks awful

Well, it's a BYOND game.

what do you expect from a game that started development 15 years ago?

underage b&

only millennials give a fuck about graphics.

trolled by truth

It's might look awful, but byond manage to have a ton of shit going on at the same time, which is perfect for anything

>open pvp
>with Sup Forums

Nah. I'm not dealing with the obvious flaw here.

cuck off, anything that isn't ss13 is automatically trash, including this """"game""""

you get protection on newbie island, and it's not as if you can't fight back. no one is going to bully you, user, we'll help.

i've been using BYOND for almost 10 years and ss13 isn't the most impressive. it's just been memed to fame because LE EPIC CLOWN MEME.

it's not bad, but the reality is that there are (or used to be) plenty of RP games like ss13 on BYOND. FFO doesn't exactly work the same as ss13 of course, but nothing is stopping you from interacting with players the same way. you can kill them however you want, if you are capable of it.

There used to be an actual ff1 online on byond but it got taken down. Saw this one but the combat isnt the same. :^(

You ever play that high school murder mystery one? Pyrce High I think it was called. Heard it's still going under a different name.

I played this game some time ago, its amazing like SS13

the only question is: Why the fuck people keep using this fucking BYOND:? Engine is shit and clunky as hell

why no one ever thought about making a SS13 or FFO standalone where we don't have to deal with BYOND bullshit

How is it compared to that one BYOND FF4 game? That shit was fucking rad.

Yeah, but it's BYOND and BYOND is shit.

theres a ton of clones of it, and yes.

no one makes NEW BYOND games anymore. all the game still up are games that started development a long long time ago. FFO has existed for 15 fucking years. we used to have 150+ players consistently, but FFO never reached ss13 status.

FFL (final fantasy legacy) is turn based, with instanced random battles. FFO has an open world battles, in real time, not to mention just way more content, cooler loot system, etc.

final fantasy legacy was a lot of people's first BYOND game. FFO is harder to get into because it's a harder game, especially at first.

high school murder mystery??

tell me more

ever wanted to fight bahamut?

what about in a town you built yourself with tons of other players who live there?

Which clone's the most active? The only one I see with people is Misuterii High. That game was so much fun back in the day. Then again, I think I played it wrong...

>Play it with friend
>Through some weird trick of fate, he ends up being the silver haired girl. I'm the silver haired boy.
>Other fucks in my classroom are randomly doodling about, not trying to leave the room yet.
>I walk up to one of them.
>"Hello. I have a question for you." I ask, hands on my waist in a dramatic pose.
>"Yea?" The guy responds.
>"What would you do to protect the one you LOVE? Would you fight to hell and back for her, my friend? Would you dive into battle with this murderer with your bokken, head held HIGH?"
>Guy stands there. "S-S-Sir yes Sir!"
>Hit him on the head one time. "Then you, my blue haired friend, are the Blue Bastard. First among the disciples of CAPTAIN SILVER."
>At this point, friend bursts into room as girl. "Ah. Why if it isn't my stalwart companion, Salad Girl. Today there is EVIL afoot!"
>Go about getting recruits. Eventually all but one of the guys is on my side.
>Captain Silver's team of JUSTICE includes the Green Gables, Red Ruskie, Blackie Chan (they thought Salad Girl was saying Blackie-chan), and Blonde Bro.
>Actual murderer (pretty certain it was a basic game) sees this and plays along. Becomes the Scissor Menace
>Holds up in the Principal's office, taunting us with his harem of G-I-R-Ls.
>It's a grim day for Captain Silver. "This villain has tomfooled your loves, boy. There's only one solution. We charge in and show him what JUSTICE means."
>"Justice is Vodka and warm bowl of borsch after killing thief"
>"Thank you, Red Ruskie, you inexplicable Russian transfer student you."
>Final battle proceeds to happen in the Principal's office.
>Alas, Captain Silver falls to the ACTUAL katana of the Scissor Menace.
>Scissor Menace gets jumped by everyone, including the G-I-R-Ls.
>Everyone cries. They swear to fight for JUSTICE as the night ends.

no clue, it's not as if you cant just check the games on the BYOND client. i havent played anything besides FFO on BYOND for like 10 years.

>BYOND
I'll pass.

the newbie protection system involves being placed into the Cube when you die any time after killing a newbie (anyone who hasnt left newbie island)

if you've ever seen the movie, yes, there are all sorts of traps, like getting sliced, doinked, crushed, etc. the room inscriptions are actual clues, too. we had at one point built a cube map, but the cube has changed since (the exit always moved anyway, of course, and the traps changed)

Real time you say? Sounds tricky with how byond has a delay on every input.

What are classes like? Are there even classes, or is it more of a stat-growth based thing like in FF2?
If there's classes, then how's solo play as a caster or some other more fragile archetype?

real time as in everything has it's own 'recoil', a sword would be slower than a 2h sword, but after attacking, you arent waiting for something to hit you, it's not world or battle turn based, but personal turn based (but you can move during recoil etc). you get it as soon as you start playing with it.

theres the 6 normal FF1 classes: Fighter, Black Belt, Thief, Red/White/Black mage, and their class change versions, Knight, Master, Ninja, Red/White/Black wizard.

knights and ninjas dont get white and black magic in FFO like they did in ff1, though.

playing solo isnt impossible on any class, but you'll have an easier time as a red mage than any other doing so, followed by master and white wizard, then knight and ninja, then the hardest being a solo black mage.

though i dont recommend playing alone. theres no penalty to partying. in fact, parties just get you more monsters, and a higher chance at champion monsters spawning, which drop better stuff than normal mobs.

sorry, sword obviously isnt slower than 2h sword. you know what i meant.

i'll make a webm of what i mean by real-time.

How active is it?

it used to have tons of players (not ss13 in size, but 150+ active players, with maybe 60-75 online at once at peak times).

a single BYOND game cant handle more than that at a time, but the world is well sized with people concentrated in certain areas. you dont want too many or too few people. unfortunately, right now we're stretched pretty thin, with maybe 15 people online at peak times.

heres what some very basic combat looks like for a fresh fighter. no abilities besides a self buff yet, and using a 1 handed sword. there is an audible 'ding' before you're recoil from attacking is up, so you know you can attack again. all the monsters have their own recoil too, but they can still move etc between attacks.
