SMW hacks

What does Sup Forums think of them? I was a big fan 9 years ago. Comfy games with cool visuals

mario gives up 1 was good

I liked return to dinosaur land. it's really hard to find good ones tho because there's very little middle ground between "boring as hell " and "impossible kaizo mario shit". I just want like, if smw had an expansion pack or something

VIP Mario has some pretty baller music tracks.

are people still doing them?

hows the Super Metroid romhacking community?

>it's really hard to find good ones tho because there's very little middle ground between "boring as hell " and "impossible kaizo mario shit".
yeah, it's a shame that most people don't want to make legit good levels; and just try to cram in a bunch of crazy shit in there
it's the same in mario maker

I just recently learned that a japanese hacker remade Metroid Zero Mission as a Super Metroid hack called Metroid: Super ZeroMission.

It somehow didn't register to me that it was what it actually was upon researching it, I'd thought for sure it was a remake to Fusion for a while because why the fuck would you remake a 10/10 game like Zero Mission? Well apparently it's very good and even has some spoilery stuff that happens at the end in place of the actual zero suit stuff.
Now that vita homebrew emulation is awesome I'll be sure to check it out on there as well as all of these, thanks.

Making good levels is a bit of an art and requires testing and refining. That takes effort so it's easier to just shit out a hack.

That and some people just want to fuck with you.

true, but then again the most popular levels in mario maker are almost always auto play levels

Shameless shill of my own Super Mario World romhack. SMW; Over the Mountain. It's pretty short, but I put a lot into what is there.

This picture is so outdated, it's missing a lot of great new hacks like mine.

Looks pretty good.

yeah I've had that image for over 2 years now. I just haven't seen any updated version or anything

I'll play your hack, user. What's its name?

Something. And Something else.

What a name. For a minute there I thought you were refusing to answer.

Thanks though, I'll check it out right away.

Tried to play some from smwcentral.
Vanilla SMW(U/J)+Lunar file (succesfully patched) but no one launches. What I've missed?

>Brutal Mario
>anything but ULTIMATE ELDER GOD tier

That game has so much amazing shit it has to be based on pure sorcery. Carol is a fucking ASM wizard.

>that Romancing Sage knockoff finale isn't the real final boss
>neither Luigi
>it's just dumb ol SMB3 Bowser on roids

go play mario maker

>buying a Wii U for $60 no slopes

I like Super Metroid hacks better.

There aren't as many though and some of them are straight up bullshit hard for the sake of being hard

Hyper Metroid and Legacy best

make me

lunar ips (i'm assuming you are using this) says patched successfully even if it didn't work.

make sure your rom has a header or it won't work. there are tools in romhacking.net that can help you with that

They're all pretty awful. All they do is make me wish I was playing the original SMW.

...

Fixed.

I've only played Something and Something Else, they were pretty fun but I don't know how they measure up to other hacks. The level where you go up the hollow tree with the walljump powerup was my favorite.

...

Which is more technically impressive?

Super Mario hacks

or

Sonic hacks?
