Gameplay is the only important part of a video game. I don't care about the music, graphics, or story

are there actually any games like that? RPG maker games still have shit gameplay.
Rhythm games

Don't bully Taiga
Please don't shitpost with my waifu
I used to sort of have this mentality. But then I realized video games are a visual medium, and as such they need to have graphics (not necessarily good graphics) in order to have some cohesiveness to the gameplay.
Pong is the most primitive game ever in terms of graphics, but the graphics are still important. You need to be able to tell what the fuck you're looking at when playing a game.
I still think story and music is somewhat obsolete in games. They're more of an icing on the cake.
>I still think story and music is somewhat obsolete in games. They're more of an icing on the cake.
Hotline Miami, among many others, would be much worse experience without its soundtrack.
You're waifu is a whore
>rhythm games without music
Well if a game isn't compelling to PLAY then I'd say that's the biggest failing of all.
>inscrutable, unresponsive, or inaccurate controls
>tedious, annoying, or aggravating mechanics
>enemies who aren't fun to fight or are unfairly overwhelming
These kill a game.
Gameplay > Music >>> Graphics >>> Story
I don't care how fucking dumb the story is or how wonky the art style and graphics look. If your game is fun to play first and foremost with an awesome soundtrack you've got yourselves a fan.
'Most important part' and 'only important part' are two completely different things.
>I still think story and music is somewhat obsolete in games. They're more of an icing on the cake.
This. Only a small margin of video games have a legitimately good story, including RPGs.
People who think music is a necessity to a game are just simply people who are addicted to music in general.
dwarf fort
roguelikes
Gameplay (core mechanics; physical feedback) > Graphics (Style; visual feedback) > Sound (FX) > Gameplay (variety) > Longevity/Replay Value > Gameplay (depth, complexity, etc.) > Sound (Music) = Graphics (technical prowess i.e., polygon count) > Story
Everything below longevity/replay value is optional.
Good music can really make certain parts of a game. Like Metal Gear Rising, for example. Story may be fucking whatever, but I still feel like music does have its place.
Taiga is cute!
Gameplay > music > story > graphics.
Addicted to music? What the fuck does that mean?
All humans listen to music on a regular basis, especially in this modern society. Music is a necessity in any form of media, unless the mood of the game requires the sound to not be present. It can break the flow of your mood if the music vanished, like a glitch or something.
FX over Music?
Kill yourself.
Video games are like a fine cuisine and you are the kid who's "just fine" eating only onions because you think they taste good.
Found Reddit.
Back in the late 80s/early 90s I'd turn the in-game music off or mute the TV, and turn on a boombox. Credit where credit is due, Kondo wrote one hell of an overworld theme, but there's only so many times you can listen to a chiptune before you're confused as to whether or not you were once deaf, and got a cochlear implant.
I usually crank up the Sega CD stuff though.
>he would rather his attacks sound like wet toilet paper being slapped against raw beef in an aircraft hangar
Sound design is a drastically overlooked part of games.
Meanwhile unless a soundtrack is 7-8/10 minimum, or if it's some licensed shit like hotline miami, you bet your fucking ass I'm going to start muting it and listening to my own stuff after about 20 hours.
So is doom a top tier game then?

I haven't played the new Doom, so I can't attest to the controls, the level design, feedback, fun factor or anything, but yeah it sounds pretty cool. The original Doom had nice music, if you had a good MIDI synth. These days you can run a software synthesizer through DOSBox and make just about anything sound better.
Oh man it's just the worst when people enjoy games for certain reasons
Playing video games for the story is like eating soup for the spoon.
In all seriousness though vidya stories usually fucking suck, hurr durr you are the chosen one fighting the ancient evil with your friends and then it turns out in the end that you may or may not have been the actual ancient evil all along.
I'm gonna rewatch ToraDora someday soon.
