well it depends on what your facing in low rank.
when i was in low rank i went from:
bulldrome > astalos > guild > gammoth > mizutsune.

In low rank you really shouldn't worry about armors. Gud enough skill will take you to high rank. That being said, tetsu isn't as strong as it was in 4U. I'd say velociprey is a decent low rank set
I don't care if the Astral weapons aren't the strongest. I'm fucking using those sexy motherfuckers.
If you got skill, you can wear literally anything. Go for it.

Why the graphics in 4U is better than in Generations?
I used it and enjoyed it, screw those guys saying not to get low rank armours do what you want
4U had a 60 FPS cap but pretty much constant major dips unless you were on a N3DS
Gen is capped at 30 FPS and tends to stay there

Biggest drop I saw so far in Gen was a 4 player hunt against Gore in the huge open area of Jurrasic Frontier. Shit looked like it tanked into the low teens.

Last time I checked, 4U still has people online. I'd start there since if you played MHG first and felt like playing another, the 4U community might have dwindled by that point.

4u was probably the one that took itself the most seriously out of the ones I've played (mh1 fu p3rd 4u gen) and it had awful forced story and cutscenes and dialogue etc.
I hope the story etc stays very light.

I feel very partial to 3U because the story was very simple and you got to stay in just one village with the same ~6 characters. It was super comfy and the early monsters were a lot better than the ones in 4U/MHX with Jaggi, Barroth, R.Ludroth, Arzuros, Rathian, Qurupeco and such. Monsters like Kecha Wecha, Congalala, Kut-Ku, and Gravios felt like a chore to clear in comparison.
Nah, they downgraded the environment textures in Generations. Monster textures are fine, though.
