A dead end loot grind? I hope not.

I'm more worried about it having no fucking content.

How would it be anything like Destiny? Are you an idiot or somethin'?

I never played Destiny so I don't know.

As one of the nerd space game fans that is starved for a good game, I genuinely hope it it is the second coming of christ for space games.

Even though I know it won't be. I refuse to spent money on 'early access' shit too.

>hyped to hell as being a massive space opera game
>ends up having next to no story and fuck all to do

How could you not see how they'd be compared? Are you an idiot?

The proof of wether or not they can pull it off will be Squadron 42. So far all we've really gotten to see or play with is a fairly amusing sandbox space engine with a lot of walls and no real content.

I am a backer but I want to try and look at it all as objectively as possible. There is a lot that can go wrong but if they pull it off there could be a really great game for us. I just hope Chris Roberts doesn't have a meltdown from the pressure or end up in a John Romero situation, which is possible.

John Romero was basically given a blank check to make the ultimate game studio and video game when he founded Ion Storm. He made a beautiful facility that struggled to actually finish a game, and when it came to the crown jewel of their studio, Daikatana, Romero was way too ambitious with his ideas and kept starting over and delaying because of new technology that he wanted to impliment instead of just getting the game out.

Obviously, Chris Roberts and John Romero are two different people in different sets of circumstances. I do not have faith in Chris Roberts without limits but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he can deliver a solid game after all these years. I will be quite disappointed if the project fails, but whatever happens with it I think it was worth giving a try, and I remain hopeful that the game actually does deliver.

>It's not going to be another Destiny is it?
What, like a massively successful franchise that sold 6 million units day 1 and basically sells 6 extra million units every time a new expansion hits?

Nah, probably not.

It's going to be another Elite Dangerous

>another Destiny
Destiny printed money.

fresh from the general
It'll be a long time before it comes out in full

Neither one was hyped as that, that's just what you believed they would be.

Destiny was hyped as an Open-world Social FPS, and while it didn't quite deliver on open world, and was quite lacking in content on launch, it had a stable base and it fixed the content and story issues little by little in subsequent expansions, with the Rise of Iron coming in september basically turning it into a fairly solid game.

Star Citizen on the other hand was hyped as the second coming of space sim genre and turned out to be content barren microtransaction infested cashgrab (Destiny early DLC was bad, but nowhere as "hundreds of dollars for a ship" bad) That kept making bigger and bigger promises without ever delivering.

Besides, Destiny is growing pretty well, still generates crazy hype every time an expansion hits, and has a pretty beefy playerbase, if they fix the fucking netcode it would be a 10/10 at this point. Meanwhile Star Citizen is hemorrhaging money on all the people demanding refunds so no, its not gonna be another Destiny is my answer to the OP's question.

Well put, nice statement. But have you seen the shit that they have done so far? They have practically all of the crytek devs to push the engine to the limits, and then create new limits. I don't see an issue being a little optimistic after seeing the technical feat. that they've accomplished. Just my opinion.

But you never know.

Well this dead end loot grind actually released so who knows.

>making fun of fans and their subreddit
>making fun of people yelling scam
>making fun of chris roberts and derek dumb
It's like he's trying to piss everyone off at once but the feedback is positive I don't get it

after a few years, the people involved in the community still sane are on the verge of snapping with the Christposters

no one likes derek smart

easy

No, it's going to be a complete trainwreck rather than just kind of one.

this has more effort than destiny already

But too much effort can be a bad thing as well. Ever heard of the creator's curse? Destiny may have been bare-bones as fuck on release but at least it got released.

I tried their little free play week thing. It was boring as shit, dog fighting felt like twirling a stick around in some mud, bugs for days, all around a shit game.

I watched the whole thing.
The German Sim autist who talked for two minutes seemed to not know what he was talking about near the end, but overall that video is the most sane and balanced piece on this shitshow of a game I've ever seen.
It made me feel bad for chris roberts

Not the user you're replying but I'm also a backer and I'd rather be pessimistic as fuck.

I've pretty much given up on SC, so if it releases a good product - cool, i get a nice game for free.

If not, i'll just completely forget about.

Can I walk around my ship while in space and look out the windows and see where me and my ship actually are in the universe? And space walk?

That's all I need to know.

Spoken like a true meemster that never played destiny.

>cool, i get a nice game for free.
>backer
You literally didn't get it for free though, you LITERALLY paid for it.

Destiny actually came out.

Yeah, I did. Almost 4 years ago. I consider that money gone long ago.

Doesn't matter how long ago it was and what you consider it as, you didn't get it for free, this is not an abstract thought that's up for debate, you paid for it, you would not have it had you not paid for it, therefor its not free.

Don't get me wrong, the game is an incredible technical achievement already. The game basically took Cry Engine and took it to a whole other level. There is a possibility out there of failure, but I am optimistic about it even though I recognize that there are risks. The measure of progress is often times difficult with this particular project because we want them to drop something big on us that instantly demonstrates how much closer to completion they are, whereas what we've been getting is little demonstrations of new improvements they've made to the engine.

Whatever nagging bit of skepticism I have will probably go out the window if they knock it out of the park with the first episode of Squadron 42, though. The promise of a great Wing Commander-style single player campaign is what really sold me on Star Citizen moreso than the MMO part, and I suspect they are banking on it serving as a hook to make people look forward to spending more time in the universe through the online mode.

This comment section actually has some triggered people in it.
One of them posted a 1400 word comment

The Destiny devs actually intended to make a complete and functional game.

I have the exact same opinion hopefully CIG makes a good showing at Gamescom/Citizencon

/thread

did they fix shity frame rate?

Even worse. What could that money have been if you invested it in something?

Best case scenario? 100 bucks or so.

Tho I probably would've spent it on going out to the movies or food.

ARMA in space

mouthbreather.

you mean the only mmofps people are still playing 2 years later?

Yes. Would post a link, but they have their physics-grid pretty much worked out.

Hopefully they show more of this shit

at Gamecom.

...

MUH SCALE

What makes the best cargo ship retaliator or constellation? Going to throw some money at these guys.

Destiny actually got released, so...

Constellation. Better capacity and it's an actual freighter instead of a modular bomber.

shit frame rate is do to the netcode which won't be fixed tell 2.7 which is later this year

Would I stand a chance flying it alone? What dose insurance do?

nothing

You could fly it solo, if not hire NPCs. Insurance will come in multiple tiers - basic just give you back the ship minus modules, others will replace equipment.

Of course none of this is implemented and won't be for another 2 years. I'd recommend waiting until the next free fly week and give it a whirl then. Right now all you can do is fly around and do basic missions which only involve shooting things.
