You know torrents are a legitimate form of data sharing, many companies use them to remove stress from main servers.
File extensions only work to match file types to programs when attempting to open them.

File extensions are nothing more than letters preceded by a dot, all they do is tell the OS what application should try to open the file by default.
What matters is the content inside the file, Microsoft would have to inspect the contents of the file and see if it is indeed actually a torrent file, there are so many problems with this, you'd have to know absolutely nothing about technology to even think it is a good idea.
Even if somehow they thought it is okay to inspect every single file to make sure it is not a torrent file, you could just encrypt the file and torrent clients could decrypt it before opening it.
There is literally no way Microsoft could pull off what you are talking about.

Now that I think of it, recent information about Win32 API that might get deprecated, about the extremely aggressive UWP initiative, about DX12 instead of Vulkan, etc might actually suggest that. Not all uses of bittorrent are illegal. most Linux distributions have an official torrent for their download to save bandwidth.
Their main motive was, they didn't want to support 7 / 8.1 anymore (which costs them money). So, if everyone (or most of the people) upgraded to 10, they wouldn't have to care about older versions anymore.
Also, they're trying to push their UWP initiative and win with DX12 against Vulkan.
Other than that, paid Windows 10 subscriptions for companies.

I mean, for example my company uses torrent protocol to share updates among several thousand nodes (something similar to how blizzard handles their updates, if one node already has the update file downloaded it shares with others, helping to propagate it faster), so blocking that would literally block out business, and cause hundreds of thousands, or even millions of dollars in losses.
I mean hell, Blizzard uses torrents for updates, Facebook uses torrent protocol internally to propagate large amounts of data between nodes, some legal download sites offer torrent mirrors (and even prefer if you use them in case of larger files), etc.
Blizzard, facebook, twitter, I'm sure there are few other companies that based their solutions on torrent protocol etc.

the problem with this is, that something gets re-activated at every boot. I had this problem in a VM and decided to stay on W7 (which doesn't have any updates and is as clean as W7 first came out with SP1). Never had problems or virus or other stuff because I only use steam and have some really crazy paranoid linux-setups between my pc and the internet.

Not him, but I've had windows 10 for about 6 months and forget I even upgraded after awhile. I torrent the hell out of movies, games, music, anime, tv shows and books and got used to it quickly. Follow the guide to turn some of the annoying features off, put a windows 7 shell on it if that's more your thing and it's the same shit, but at least supported and you get direct X. Everything I copied over works. Maybe it's just me.
And I know you're not going to believe me and probably have your tinfoil hat ready, but while there is some issues that remain, I hate to break it to you, but if you're using 7 or 8 these days, or any google program, it's already on your computer anyway

Torrents are an idea, not a specific program. If the protocol were ever shut down, a similar one would spring back up.
Even if MS were to start taking draconian measures, the fact remains that it's becoming less and less of a problem every day to switch to Linux. Today you can play basically any pre-2007 game on Linux. What number does that have to be before people start switching over in droves?
