I never understood the jump command. It deals 300 dmg after 2 turns. Fucking Cid does 600 every turn, and Kain would deal 300 every turn by just attacking.

The character is immune to all damage while jumping, so there's that I guess.

Something that always pissed me off about FF4 is that they literally tell you how to beat most of the bosses in the game.

A fan remake in RPGMaker would probably look better because they'd use the default assets.
And neither can you attack. It's useless as shit. One character won't take damage but all the others will. If anything that makes your other chars take more damage. Plus it's not turn based, you'll never use jump to trick and avoid big attacks because you never know what attack the enemy will use, and even if you do the rest of the team takes the damage and you'll cure-all anyway.
I bought all of the mobile ports on Steam despite this :^)

The wind boss in the video? Well that's kinda the gimmick of the fight just because Kain just joined. It's one of the only times jump is useful. Plus you have to get lucky for the boss to only attack during the jumps, can't really time it well.

I get that gameplay comes first, but when it comes to RPGs, aesthetics and writing can play a much larger role in the quality of a game.

You actually need to use Jump specifically to beat at least one of the bosses.
FFT has jump and it's a bit more useful, since you can jump from a very far distance.

Dragoons are a pointless class. Edgelords love them for some reason. As you pointed out, other classes fill their roles better than any Dragoon possibly could.

I played this game back in the '90s and then again around the mid 2000s for GBA.
After seeing how SE handled the I-IV remakes a standard was set in place for many eagerly awaiting the V and VI remakes, only for them to find the mobile games worse off than previous versions.
Even if I had no prior knowledge of or experience with V and VI, or the other remakes, I would have still been put off by horribly mismatched sprites, tile-sets, and UI. I cannot see how they don't bother you.

They dont bother me because I already played the older versions (even the GBA restoration patch) and I found the only thing wrong with FF6 mobile is the characters sprites. Everything else is top notch and by far the best compared with the older versions (there are almost zero misaligned tilesets, unlike the FFV remake).
Most people that bitch about the port either havent played it or focus too damn match in a single aspect to fail to notice the other improvements. Ive said before, replacing the sprites would make this the ultimate FFVI experience.

Those aren't just two unique instances. The whole game is like that.
I do agree that some decent effort was put into the monster sprites and backgrounds, but nearly everything else is fucked and none of it meshes together well at all.

I would say otherwise. I'd rather play with butchered music and colors than having to deal with those tile seams, UI, character sprites, out of place Amano portraits (didn't like the portraits over the dialog in the GBA version either), 3D model towns, and crap controls.
Don't know about you, but for me the most important aspect of FF6 is it's soundtrack, hence why I consider the Android port superior to the vanilla.
I really don't like the new UI's font and shit portraits, but being able to issue commands without juggling characters is a godsend in Active Mode Speed 1, and unhandledy saves Cyan's gameplay (not that he's great to begin with, but that shit shoulda been fixed as soon as the PSX port)
XII is already fucked up.
Makes me almost sad that this is how newer generations will experience what were huge classics to me. I get that visuals aren't everything, but the sprites/art of so much there ruins the charm that it had before. For such a venerable franchise, why the fuck did Square have such a hack-job port? Do they not care about preserving their brand?
I actually played it.
And enjoyed it. The last location looked great.
