>Alt tab
>Game crashes
Alt tab
Do Bethesta games still do this?
>game doesnt lock cursor to game window
>accidentally click out of the game window
>game crashes
>alt tab
>cursor no longer locks to window
>alt tab
>game gives computer black screen
>task manager open under black screen
>need to reboot
>alt+tab
>mouse disappears
>quit game
>game crashes
Supposedly, making games behave neatly with multitasking is nontrivial, and since it's likely only a problem for the more hardcore part of the PC players, it might just not be worth the effort.
Fuck New Vegas
>buy game on disc
>disc installs from steam 1 hour
It really isn't. It's just that plenty of poor programmers don't do good practices and end up designing fucked up control-freak programs. It's literally the whole concept of the world's most popular OS, yet they can still fuck it up after all these years. There are plenty of games that alt-tab just fine. For example Russian developers tend to have no problems with alt-tabbing, windows, resizing etc. And of course, back when Microsoft made games, they did it perfectly too.
IDK but at least in skyrim
>can't adjust system volume in-game, you need to minimize the game window to do it
fucking Rising storm
Just use BorderlessGaming for New Vegas
I use it for mostly everything really, if the game doesn't have borderless fullscreen in the options
>alt-tab back in
>game runs 20 fps
Serious sam 3 always did this and it was so annoying
So this...is the power.. of PC gaming
>the game quits by crashing itself
>Alt-Tab back into game
>the cursor broke and is now a dotted vertical line
>Borderless windowed so I can easily tab out and change whatever Chinese cartoon I'm listening to
>Window stays as the top layer when tabbing out
What a pain
> poor programmers don't do good practices
For AAA games? Most AAA game companies employ rather skilled programmers and personnel in general.
> control-freak programs
Maybe that follows from the multi-target development or porting from a console target. I dunno.
> It's literally the whole concept of the world's most popular OS, yet they can still fuck it up after all these years.
How many AAA games are made specifically, or even primarily, for Windows?
> Russian developers tend to have no problems with alt-tabbing, windows, resizing etc.
Good for them, but since neither of us presumably know the first thing about game dev mentality and practices in Western vs Russian cultures, that's pretty vague.
> Microsoft did it perfectly too.
They had to, and that also coincided with the days where Windows was a viable single target for large-scale game development.
>own 2 monitors
>launch any quake 3 engine game
>gamma levels through the roof
In some games that is a problem because you can't change brightness in windowed mode
Fuck atmosphere, I wanna see where I'm goin
Enable "always on top" for task manager
>The game crashes with no survivors
Fucking Bane games.
Get one of them keyboards with volume control buttons.
name 141413943592 games that do this
This is the reason I can't play fallout 3
everyone says fallout 3 is so much fucking better than 4,
too bad I can't fucking look something up or change a song from my music that im not in the mood for
The game doesn't really crash I guess, but there is no possible way to get back into the game
good thing I bought it on sale
>mouse disappears
r-really? once my keyboard disappeared, or so I thought, until I looked to my side. It had simply fallen to the side when I reached for some water
>alttab once
>audio stops working
>alttab twice
>video stops rendering
>alttab thrice
>game crashes
well, okay then.
>quit game
>game crashes
Still doesn't work unless you open the steam overlay first.
This used to be Steam games years ago. I would just crash my way out of them.
>alt tab five times and the game crashed, but each time before #5 the tab was slower to respornd
>Alt tabbing only works if you first go to menu then bring up the user overlay
>If you don't do this the normal cursor will be shown during game play with a different sensitivity
>Do this too many times and the game will crash regardless of anything you do.
Playing Skyrim is cancer.
>start game
>crash bandicoot
sometimes. You have to be lucky.
I've got one, it doesn't work
>game crashes
>savegame is corrupted
>Most AAA game companies employ rather skilled programmers
top kek
>playing game with a controller
>mouse cursor doesn't disappear
Probably my favorite thing about mgsv other than the gameplay is that it alt-tabs fucking flawlessly.
Its beautiful, it instantly goes from full screen to desktop and back again with no mouse fuckery or anything.
>alt-tab
>mouse cursor warps back to center of window every time the game renders a new frame
>play mirrors edge catalyst
>60fps
>alt tab
>want to play again
>33fps and it never gets better
>restart
>60fps again
why?
>game forces the american keyboard layout
Based on...?
AAA games being sluggish garbage using the Unreal Engine.
Hell, you needn't even hire programmers to produce an AAA game nowadays.
>game forces the australian mouse layout
>game crashes
>can't alt tab
>Fullscreen is slower than window mode
>Alt tabs sometimes crashes the game on High settings and above
>Using more than two language keyboard input somehow forces the game into full window mode
Fucking War Thunder
>Alt+tab
>Alt+tab back
>Now I have both game and system cursor visible
>Both move at different speeds
fucking blizzard
Surprisingly FO4 doesn't. I've been able to alt tab with no problems at all multiple times.
This
>toggle show-items-on-ground is alt
>unconsciously hold alt all the time
>toggle map is tab
>kill game every time I toggle map
>frame rate reduction
Why does having a game in windowed/borderless hurt frame rate so much anyway?
>hl2.exe has stopped working
I have no idea
>exit game
>game crashes
see
i posted that before i read the thread
also you missed
>Hit Windows button on keyboard
>Game crashes
>alt+tab
>the last half second of what you heard ingame now loops over and over and over
>alt+tab back
>a minute of black screen with the sound still looping
>have to go to the main menu to exit the game
>game asks you five times if you really want to quit
The story of how I lost 19 hours of progress in Virtue's Last Reward, and had to spam A through everything for 10 hours the following day.
>Setup.exe
>12kb
>alt-tab in
>game goes from 20 FPS to 60
>Game works with either KBM or a controller.
>Both work at the same time, no need to toggle options or restart the game.
>Just use one or the other depending on whats needed
I gotta give credit, I did like GTAV for that, mouse for aiming on foot, controller for vehicle.
Damn, I didn't know that worked.
I was thinking about getting a controller just for cruising around in GTAV, KB+M is absolute shit for that.
literally happened to me outside Gwyns room in Dark Souls on my first playthrough
"wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh-"
>check controls
>only the controller inputs are listed
>shoot with mouse
>controller vibrates on your desk
Pretty much all games recognize both at once
Do it, trust me, it really works wonders, FUCK the keyboard for trying to fly a fucking helicopter in any GTAs for that matter.
Oh yeah, don't fucking use a damaged controller though, or you'll find yourself trying to go left for no reason. Not like I experienced that or anything, just a warning, I swear.
>change controls
>type 1
>type 2
>type 3
Yes
A lot of games make you change the controller type manually in the options.
In new vegas for some reason if you were playing with KB+M and decided to change to controller he would change instantly by just turning the controller on. But if you then wanted to go back to KB+M you had to go to the options and disable the controller. Makes perfect sense.
From recent experience, EDF 4.1 doesn't, you can use your keyboard for a few things well you're playing with a controller, but if you want to use it properly, you've got to exit back to the start screen and press enter with your keyboard.
Why not leave it on your crotch ?
>exit game
>game crashes
>game crashes
>can't alt+tab
>ctrl+alt+delete
>select task manager
>still can't alt+tab
>can't use task manager
>restart computer
>change controls
>A=?
>B=?
>X=?
>Y=?
And then I learned to never play a console port ever again
>he doesn't know about CTRL+SHIFT+W
Fucking eye does this.
>alt-tab out
>what makes me a good dededededededededededemomomomomomomomomi
>alt+enter
>alt+tab
Game doesnt crash anymore
Plenty of ways to avoid annoying shit if you just google a bit
I never knew.
Nah, if I buy one, it's gonna be a new one. I was thinking about an adapter for XBOXhueg controllers to PC, I always liked the controllers and still have some lying around.
But fuck that, might as well just get a new and modern XBone controller or whatever's good.
Am personally using a wired 3shitty one, works pretty good, and maybe due to bias, I prefer the bumper buttons more. That, and the 360 one is cheaper, but it would come down to preference really.
you have significantly improved my quality of life
>Red Alt-Tab
>Game explodes
I was never very picky about controllers. Sure, it's nice to have one where everything feels pleasant but I could probably do with an old, flabby N64 controller.
>not having an SSD
>actually giving a shit about having to restart your computer
>alt tab
>game crashes
>can't get back to desktop
>have to reboot computer
>alt tab
>Game's screen turns black
Thanks, any 90s/early 2000s PC games
>boot up game
>screen constantly flashes blue
>if you uncap the framerate it stops but now the game runs at an unplayably fast speed
...
>put same game in window
>now the game runs at like 5 FPS
Holy shit thanks man
>try this
>it never works
wew
>buy retail version of pc game
>have to download 50gb of data from steam anyway
