>Bogey Man

What happened to Silent Hill truly is a tragedy for the ages. I mean goddamn it almost makes me cry how badly this series got raped

>clever reimaginations

lel.

Remember that one ending to zero where two pyramid heads come out and put a helmet on the protagonist. Who then becomes a THIRD pyramid head.

That was so spooky I jumped out of my chair and screamed for three minutes to amuse my livestream audience.

The Butcher was actually pretty cool.

At the end of the day they're just different interpretations of the god Valtiel anyway.

Funnily enough the bogeyman is actually really good, albeit badly implemented

inb4 a million kids who think downpour can have nothing good in it

some of the core ideas in downpour are actually amazing for a silent hill game- its mistake is trying to ape SH2 and not having talented people behind it. A game dealing with prison, pedophilia and the death of children has endless potential for something in the vein of SH4- I would go as far to say that SH1 and 3 are the ones in the series that exploit its possible potential the least with the generic cult bullshit

Pyramid head manifested because of James' guilt- the bogeyman was implied to represent murphy himself. If only it was done much differently without so obviously trying to ape pyramid head and the whole "purgatory" idea in SH2

>SH1 and 3
>generic cult bullshit
now who's the kid who's never fucking played the games?

Ive played 1-4, homecoming and downpour- is that your only "argument"?

The cult is the most generic aspect of silent hill and SH3 is the weakest team silent SH game when it comes to the story and themes- the cult as an element of silent hill is fine but having it be in the spotlight for the story is not only a mistake but an active disservice to something that could be. Characters like Dahlia and Vincent are dogshit and they overpower the elements such as Valtiel or the actual supernatural presence of the town as its own entity

>Generic cult bullshit
That's just like, your opinion man.

what is this and why does this picture fuck me up a little bit

Cheap knock-offs. Constantly trying to re-invent the judge without understanding it's importance and relevance. They basically kept trying to do the next "Nemisis" without realizing that the world of Silent Hill itself IS the Nemesis.

yeah, that's my argument, and you're just strenghtening the fact that you're an illusional, ignorant fool babbling out loud bullshit.

TS' "cult" is far from generic, and has tons of real-life work and research done on it. A living, breathing danger is always scarier than a make-belief ass pull spooks. Not to mention even SH1 and 3 rely more on psychological aspects in the actual plot, and in the grander scale of the whole lore, the "cult" is merely a tiny cog in a much bigger machine.

Valtiel etc do not exist. They are manifested into existence by the psychic traits of Alessa, as a result of literal religious brainwashing since birth. The actual "god birthing" bullshit also was not a direct result of the cult, but rather the "Dahlia act" side of it, only made possible thanks to her daughter being abnormal being.

ofc the cult is important, without there would be no demon and no otherworld,

the second one

Whoever designed the monsters of Downpour deserves to go jobless.

No, they aren't. Valtiel has nothing to do with SH2 and Pyramid Head is a specific manifestation of James' psyche.

>Characters like Dahlia and Vincent are dogshit

and they're barely in the games. the town itself is always the most important character after the main protagonist.

Except the entire backstory of silent hill's supernatural presence is explained through what happened to Alessa combined with the fact that its a defiled indian burial ground- the cult only perpetuates the evil in the town

The cult itself isnt generic- ive literally written about it and analysed it for some religion class when I was fucking 15. The way the cult is portrayed in SH3 for example is far from being a "living, breathing danger" because the only exposure and connection to such an "entity" is non-threats like Dahlia that only serve to serve as NPC.s in the story while the real danger again lies in their supernatural lackeys ( such as the missionary on top of heathers homes roof)

The otherworld isn't real you flippant retard, it's the manifestation of the psychic energy being channeled through a little girl who was raised on religious nonsense.

weeping bats are the best enemy design in the series you weenie.

Also downpour is underrated and is actually pretty cool.

so it's only an imagination?

No.

>347604873
SH2>1>3>downpour>shattered memories> 4>origins>homecoming>trash>book of memories
all the silent hill games are fun

>all the silent hill games are fun

>weeping bats are the best enemy design in the series you weenie.

you're a fucking mong and the screenshot you chose is really goofy looking. Really excellent demonstration as to why lighting is important in video games.

It's a psychic projection, effectively a shared hallucination. Harry isn't going to a different place.
The same is true of the character's different "dreams" in SH2, though what's causing their manifestations is unclear.

>Except the entire backstory of silent hill's supernatural presence is explained through what happened to Alessa combined with the fact that its a defiled indian burial ground-
Exactly... expect that indian burial ground.
While kinda the same thing, the entire SH area is hinted of being a zone where the "border" between this spiritual energy and our realm has always been thin. The whole SH1 event seems to have sort of cracked this border, and made it go haywire, resulting kind of autopilot projections of extraordinary strength.

>The cult itself isnt generic- ive literally written about it and analysed it for some religion class when I was fucking 15.
we both agree there. SH's cult is literally just bunch of Christians, who've adopted some pagan rituals, and later on created some false lore around it - especially after SH1's events.

>The way the cult is portrayed in SH3 for example is far from being a "living, breathing danger"
You're misunderstanding my point. I'm not talking about actual in-game dangers that the player faces, but rather about an idea of religious nutcases starting working on their agenda, using supernatural rituals and shit that actually do work for change.

That being said, the source of all supernatural can be pinpointed to Alessa, in all the games but SH4, and even that could be debated about.

No. The projections cause real, physical alterations in the world, and happen for real.

What dreams are you talking about? The town itself changes according to James, Eddie and Angela's psyches and fears. Angela's Silent Hill is radically different from James, or Eddie for example.

I think that ending was actually for Homecoming, though, not Zero.
I remember you also got the Pyramid Head costume afterwards

so silent hill is actually a quit and peaceful town, while harry, james and heather run around like crazy people and fight invisible monsters?

No.
Like said, the "projections" cause real, physical alterations in the world, and happen for real, even if their area of effect can vary.

Silent Hill is a ghost town essentially, its only population is the remains of the cult.

>The otherworld isn't real you flippant retard
>the "projections" cause real, physical alterations in the world

what now

...

Nice headcanon.
>inb4 but it's more plausible
You're playing a fucking videogame about monsters and demonic incarnations. Maybe, just maybe trying to figure out the most "plausible" interpretation isn't exactly what you should be focusing on.

It's like saying that Disney's Robin Hood has to be a post-apocalyptic Earth taken over by genetic experiments because it's "more plausible" than it just being a story with fantastical elements you have to accept.

1 > 3 > 2 > 4

Back in 1999 when I was visiting one of the few video game stores here in Finland, I came across with a PS1 game called Silent Hill. I remember looking at the game's cover anxiously; a woman in bruises or burns and the title written in shattered letters. I put the game back on the shelf, but it kept haunting me until I had to ask my dad to buy it for me. He was slightly worried if it would be too much for me, but I managed to assure hím that I could handle it. On our way home I removed the plastic wrap with shaky hands and started to study the manual. I kept eyeing the game disc which was as mysterious and menacing as the cover.

When we came back home it was already getting dark. I picked up some snack and ran to my room where I had this small TV and my PlayStation waiting for me. There was still some sunlight coming in from the window, so I didn't put on any lights. I booted the game and before I noticed, it was already dark and I was the only one awake in the house. That's when I fell in love with horror games. Not because I enjoyed the experience, but because I was scared shittless. It felt amazing.

To me, Silent Hill has aged like a corpse. It's molded and got dark, infested with maggots and flies. Terrifying to look at, but can't take my eyes off.

>the new button appearing in the evelator to the floor which shouldn't excist
>the cat in the locker
>the sudden nightfall when entering the backyard of the "dog house" and the siren starts wailing in the distance
>everything about Akira Yamaoka
>the painting of the door with two corpses on both sides becomes real
>the outdated, gritty look

To me, Silent Hill is still the best horror game ever made. And I doubt there ever will be anything to claim its rusty, bloodstained throne.

Nice blog, m8.

twin perfect: the world is changing for real
silent hill wiki: it's a parallel dimension

who is right? or is it up for interpretation?

I'll take the one that isn't run by a nut who seriously thinks SH is a denunciation of circumcision thank you very much.

>a denunciation of circumcision
what?

>Silent Hill cosplay
>it's always movie nurses or movie PH
Triggers me.

storify.com/jasperrolls/the-silent-hill-wiki-circumcision-meltdown-of-2015
Have fun. It's even more funny since Voidburger had this to say about Outlast.

the problem with the bogeyman is that its unclear who it represented
sure you can say its suppose to be murphy especially at the end
but the thing that fucks that theory in the ass is when murphy looks at its body and the nun goes BUT ITS YOUR SON DONT YOU RECOGNIZE HIM
they wanted to do something fun and clever with him but they failed miserably at it

That's true but he's still Valtiel.

No.

Jesus christ. It keeps going and going.

Unlike Voidburger's foreskin.

considering how much they complain, I don't think there's a single doubt that being a woman is the worst fate there is

>storify.com/jasperrolls/the-silent-hill-wiki-circumcision-meltdown-of-2015

what the fucking hell

silenthill.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:49806

Lots of that delicious crazy juice got deleted but it's still pretty insane, even just the length of it.

Doesn't the bogeyman represent something different in each of the endings

>Silent Hill is ALL about the injustices of America - it's literally what the ENTIRE series is about.

makes sense. of course that's what a fucking japenese horrorgame is all about.

I always kinda dug the Boogeyman.
While in the same role as Pyramid Head, he has a different aesthetic, unlike the Butcher. He felt scary in a more mysterious sense than in a visceral blood soaked sense, what with the completely concealing outfit. Would love to do a Halloween costume of him.

>'It's being invaded by the Otherworld. A world of someone's nightmarish delusions come to life.' - Harry Mason

it says right there on the fucking otherworld wiki site. what the hell are those guys talking about parallel dimensions and shit?

It doesn't matter. No matter how many terrible follow-ups there are to a piece of media these days, the original will always be intact. Silent Hill 1 & 2 will stand as giants and paragons of profound storytelling in video games for the rest of human history.

Both Bogeyman and Butcher looks more like Clock Tower enemies. They're way too realistic for Silent Hill.

Nobody cares about Silent Hill more than I do. Not hyperbole—literally nobody.

I'm pretty sure the Boogeyman represents the person you hate the mpst, for Murphy, the pedophile was his Boogeyman and the security lady's was Murphy

This.
That's why the monster is called "The Boogeyman." The name isn't generic for no reason, it's to represent each person's individual boogeyman.

Whatever happened to this thing?

It got everybody hyped back when it was still Silent Hill 5

Heavily Americanized and seemed to take more cues from the fucking movie rather than from the games. The Otherworld at least looked neat at times and the enemy design wasn't insultingly bad like Downpour, also Akira Yamaoka soundtrack.

HC > DP

This thing was the only good/actually scary thing to come out of the non-numbered Silent Hills

homecoming is probably the only western silent hill with decent monster design.

Forgot pic

and your interpretation of the game is more correct than mine because...?

Fuck, I actually saw this on Walter Sullivan's wiki page and closed the whole thing in disgust thinking the Shwiki was allowing this garbage to be put up there.

>HOW DO YOU LIKE THE ACID BATH AHAHAHA HAHAHA

Fuck this guy.

REEEEEEEEEEE I want you fuckers to git ou, you ruined this franchise with this obsession with shit muh psychological horror plots.

>twin perfect: the world is changing for real

you guys watched their new video?

youtube.com/watch?v=q-oqXJYAmis

I have only play silent hill 1 and today I bought 2 and 3 for 21 dolars (silent hill 3 include the soundtrack). What am I for?

>they got a new video
To be honest, I want to pick up Book of Memories, but there is one trophy that requires a party of four.

the 3 greatest survival horror games of all time.

Why did they get a token female? Why is Fungo only doing Souls game lore videos anymore.

Could someone please post the DL links for the PC versions

thank you

I believe that's rosseter's GF. fungo left twin perfect as far as I know.

...

Wasn't she with Fungo first? supposedly also why Fungo left TP.

Posting it
youtube.com/watch?v=g2Eu2u_cSVs

I know about the Fungo story, but still. A review here and there but his focus is lore videos. Boring.

The kind of people who ruined the franchise are the ones who want everything neatly explained, the very idea that all the phenomenon in the city can be completely explained away by psychic bullshit comes from this desire to simplify everything, the 4 main SH games don't point to a simple unique explanation, its obvious that the team, master in horror as they were knew that as soon as you could create an explanation to everything the overall effect of the games would be diminished.

TL;DR, SH2 fags ala Tomm hulett ruined everything

Fungo and TP had a falling out over Fungo's relationship issues with his gf and shit.

I think he killed himself

I have no idea if you'll see this, but that was a beautiful post man, cheers.

why is that boy wearing an wig?

that is why european covers are superior than american.
also torille

When did Harry become an expert on the ways of other worlds? Why can he be trusted?

>Konami releases Ape Escape 2 on PS4
>still no SH2/3/4

>cult stuff is cliche and bad
>muh psychic asspull is fresh and good

konami killed the franchise by putting people in charge who disliked the original silent hill and who wanted nothing but make silent hill 2 remakes, and by being cheap fucks and having c-grade shovelware studios work on what used to be their flagship franchise.

Having not played SH, I like The Bogeyman. He's got a completely different demeanor about him compared to Pyramid Head.

I want to punch that face.

What does that even mean.

CRAWLING IN MY FORESKIN
MY WOUNDS WILL NOT HEAL
SHLOMO TOOK IT ALL
AND MADE OF IT A MEAL

the problem with the bogeyman is it's named the bogey man and it looks like a variant of the Raincoat killer from Deadly Premonition. It's an amazingly shitty design.

At least the butcher still looks like something from Silent hill, the bogeyman looks like a generic horror flick antagonist.

>'the cult sucks.'
>'silent hill is purgatory.'

fuck you tomm.

Jesus christ you are a fag

take your pretentiousness and blogging to reddit they'll appreciate it there

Pretense of what?

>Silent Hill
>Konami's flagship franchise

When was this?
