If you want a good and engaging game, go play Resident Evil 4. Even if you're afraid of horror games, go for it because it's amazing.
I'm a pussy when it comes to terror movies or games, but I'm having the time of my life with this game because it's fun as fuck.
If you want a good and engaging game, go play Resident Evil 4. Even if you're afraid of horror games...
>ps2 version
I'm happy you're playing one of the best games of all time user, but why one of the worst versions?
Either play the Wii version, 360/PS3 versions, or the PC version. Hell, maybe even the GC version, but may as well play the Wii one at that point
I own a PS2 and a PC that isn't good enough to run the RE4 HD. But what are the differences between the PS2 version and the others?
Anyway, I was tired of vydia stopped playing anything for a month. Then I got RE4 and I was caught, playing it all day everyday.
PS2 has Plagas laser, knight costume for Ashley and gangster costume for Leon, and Seperate ways, and the cutscenes are prerendered so they don't show the alternate costumes if you're using them. Gamecube doesn't have any of those things and the cutscenes do include costumes.
Tried it on 360 back when it was released, but I sucked to bad. Died like 10 to 20 times in that village in the beginning and I just couldn't manage the game. Should I give it another try when the PS4 version releases?
I wish I could play this game for the first time again.
Enjoy it OP, you'll never lose your RE4 virginity again after this.
RE4 is tense rather than scary outside of a few parts. Fun game.
Just curious, what do you think got you killed so much?
Just maintaining some distance and situational awareness should be enough. In regards to the ps4 release, well it being 60fps might change some factors of the game like it did on PC pre-patches (enemies are more aggressive, certain QTE's are much harder as it's tied to fps). All these issues might not happen though, they've already been fixed on pc at any rate.
I died like 3 times in that village, shoot them in the foot and use the knife.
It's an amazing game, for real.
it doesn't even matter what you want in a game
just go play it, seriously
God-tier game. Fucking shame RE5 ended up sucking hard.
Wii version best version
I say this as someone who hasn't played PC version yet
This. It doesn't matter what you want or what you expect, ignore your preconceived notions and go play Resident Evil 4.
>foot
Shoot them in the head, kick, THEN stab you big idiot.
I just beat RE4 last week and started RE5 immediately after and holy fucking shit, what?
How could they remove literally everything that made 4 so charming. I did like that they added a convenient way of turning right and left though.
Well grave mistake for people on the PC version is that they don't bother to check the aiming settings. It's quite something to see it run at 60fps but still can't beat the wii aiming.
I don't know man... It's depressing as fuck.
Have yet to try RE6 but Revelations was good.
I honestly considered just skipping 5 and going straight to 6 for my boy Leon but I heard his campaign sucks ass
>I did like that they added a convenient way of turning right and left though.
Wii version has that. Making 90 degree turns. I think other versions too but a bit more awkward.
5 can actually be a lot of fun co-op
6 is absolutely terrible though.
such an amazing game, I'll love it forever. Has a special corner in my heart.
Fave parts everybody?
Castle>>>Village>>>Island
Monsters?
Regenerator >>> Salazar's right hand man >>> Beard dude
Regenerators are lame as fuck. They just slowly walk while you do the exact same sniper shooting routine on them. Villagers are the best.
nah dude, you can trivialize any enemy like this
every villager ever:
-shoot leg, stunned, shoot head/kick
Occult dudes from the castle are better enemies than villagers
And fuck you, regenerators are cool as f
Ps2 version has an overpowered rifle that is basically as powerful as a magnum when maxed. I don't think the gamecube version has the same.
Can someone convince me to keep playing? I'm on the part where you and Ashley jump down a garbage chute and get chased by a spiky regenerator. This was like 4 days ago, and I noped the fuck out.
Also, my broken butterfly is out of ammo, so my only defensive option is the riot gun.
>resident evil 4
>horror
You fight them in groups, and they often have different weapons too. Regenerators always show up on their own and they always do the exact same thing with no variation
Yeah but you can knock down 4 or 5 villagers with a single shotgun blast.
I think the village is the most perfect part of any game ever. Each room is terrifying, tense, unique, and expertly designed. It also has impeccable pacing and atmosphere. No action game since has come close to matching the dread, energy, and tension of the village section of RE4.
But that's not to discount the rest of the game. The Castle is amazing and brilliantly designed, I just don't think it's as flawless as the village section. The Island is probably the weakest part of the game, but even then it's still excellent and has some fantastic set pieces (Regenerators, Krauser battle, the helicopter sequence). And even though I consider it the "low point" of the game doesn't mean it's bad, because it's still fucking great. I just don't think it was as consistently well-designed as the village or the castle.
Fuck sorry if I sound autistic but I just love RE4 so much.
The great thing about RE:4 is once you beat it, you can play Aida's Missions and its an entirely new game. The challenge arena things are great too. Just a perfect game once you get the controls down.
That's assuming they come at you from the same direction and none of them have any weapons and the area you're fighting in is convenient for that kinda thing. They're just the more engaging, versatile enemies that are fun to fight throughout because they work well with the game's mechanics and levels. Regenerators are only effective once, after that they pose no threat and it's not like taking them out with the sniper is as fun as kicking a group of villagers while their heads explode.
RE5 has fun trophies though. The later levels are good.
one time I got overconfident with them, thinking okay, I'm far enough, I'll dick around a bit
Suddenly the fucker stretches his arm out to like 10 meters, grabs me, pulls in and bites a good chunk out of my neck.
They can fucking surprise you
Don't worry brother, everybody's autistic for Re4.
And I completely agree with what you wrote. The only reason I like the castle better than the village is just for personal reasons.
Garradors are my favorite enemies in the entire series. I think the few fights you have against a mix of them and cultists are the most tactically interesting and tense battles in the game.
Every enemy in this game needs certain tactics to beat them, that's why they are so different and fun.
If you like killing 3-4 villagers with 2 bullets and a roundhouse kick, that's fine.
And if you like to maintain the optimal distance from one tough foe, while trying to look for it's weak spots that's cool as well.
It all boils down to personal opinions tough.
sadly, your opinion is wrong.
Holy moly, I forgot about those guys! They were super awesome.
Man, I fucking love this game. Can't wait for the ps4 release.
Groups of villagers need different tactics depending on what they do, their weapons, your weapons, the level layout and other things. Cultists even more so. There's 1 approach to beating regenerators that you repeat several times in the game with no variation, that's why they're boring as shit. They aren't even ever mixed with other enemies to make them tense again.
Stop posting, Matt
All you have to do is run around and corral them into a big group to get them with a shotgun. Unless you're totally surrounded you should be able to just take it slow.
At least 5 gave us a proper chocolate waifu.
You're almost right. There's a reason they're always alone; they always come after you fought a large group of enemies.
Meaning, that on your first time, you need to always keep in mind to store ammo for those fuckers, since you never know when will they come.
And try to say their shivering breathing wasn't terrifying as shit for the first time.
And no, it never matters if a villager has a sicle or a fork, or a tnt; a couple bullets and a kick kills them, THAT'S boring dude
____imo
hard to love her when she was a waste of resources
The first time I saw them? You bet your ass they spooked me. Kinda loses its effect after you fight the first two that you meet and realize that there's not much to them though.
Sheva is sexy. But that's all. I never liked her that much. Same with the chick who's with Leon in 6.
They lack soul
Evil Within is far better
of course it's loses it's effect after two or a dozen times, but they're still better than the villagers.
At least I hope we can agree that the best throwaway enemies are the occultists. It does matter in their case if they have a helmet, a shield, a mace or a bow and arrow.
I honestly hope so. Never played, but I would love to.
Nah user fuck off. Villagers have depth and variety, Regenerators have no depth to the point where you can't even use your favourite weapons against them. But yeah cultists are best by far.
Seriously you guys, I just need someone to tell me it's no big deal. I'm eskurt
Okay, cool.
At least you do your best to defend your point.
Fave weapons?
Dude, just leave the thread and play the damn game. Next time make multiple saves, you don't even need inks
>Regenerators have no depth to the point where you can't even use your favourite weapons against them
I recall being able to kill them with the knife. Are they unkillable with other weapons?
>Island is probably the weakest part.
Resident Evil 4 is one of the best games of all time and you can tell because the biggest complaint about it is that it's too long.
You have to hit specific parts of their body, their parasites, they differ every time, so you can check with thermal sniper, or blow them up with granades, or shoot them with magnums. magnum bullets destroy big parts of their body, and you can see the parasite tails hangling. you shoot there. Guess you were lucky with the knife.
that's weird. I don't think its too long, it just not much of a roller coaster ride by the end.
I disliked the lack of tactics against chainsaws. RE5 and 6 did much better at giving you options against them, with weakpoints and the ability to melee attack them when staggered.
Only 50 gigs user
chop chop
>that's weird. I don't think its too long, it just not much of a roller coaster ride by the end.
The island makes it feel too long. Especially with the overlong helicopter sequence through those three or so areas.
Massive fucking tits.
I think 6 offers great game play, and is massively underrated. I agree.
Well first I'll consider buying it. It shouldn't be too expensive. it's quite old now isn't it?
The biggest flaws are clearly the truck/cart sections and QTEs
Seeing this pic in every RE thread always makes my day. Thank you.
>european box art
Why the fuck is it always so much better?
TMP'ing villager/cultist knees is always good fun
You can kill regenerators even if you ignore the parasites. It's inefficient, as they can withstand a ton of damage and it will generally take a lot of ammo, but it's an option.
QTEs were well implemented, in my opinion, and almost always in a memorable part. Not because they were bad but because it was a cool scene of high tension.
Cart sections were pretty neat too, though I wasn't a huge fan of all the dynamite throwing.
Because American audiences can't understand subtlety.
Some of them were, but the ones during lengthy cutscenes could get annoying. QTE's mid gameplay for dodging and shit were fine though, didn't mind them one bit.
...
Yes, you're right, forgot to mention that.
I loved headshot crits with broken butterfly. The fastest reload animation was the shit.
Also gotta love mine thrower shenanigans
I'm sure they can, they just think "cool" sells better.
Don't do this to my dick user
Please do tough. Do you have Ada or Jill?
>Massively underrated
Well let's not say things that we can't take back. Improved melee combat, co-op mercs, and being able to quickly switch weapons were the only major positive changes. Everything else was a step back...unless you're a fan of moving and shooting I guess.
well like 2 years i guess
it also has 3-4 dlcs
The game gets much easier after that part imo
Code Veronica is the best one
it never tried to be more than a fun action game, and I can respect that. Add everything you said before, and you got a game, that didn't deserve the shit it got. It came out right when it became "cool" to shit on RE, because 5 was shit.
needless to say, 6 was far from perfect of course, pretty far actually
>dlc
wow, never knew. About anything actually cool I hope?
>I'm sure they can, they just think "cool" sells better.
But it generally isn't "cool." It's just trying to sell the premise/themes as quickly and easily as they can. Things like throwing a guy on the cover with a gun: HEY YOU CAN SHOOT DUDES IN THIS. Rather than something more subtle.
that's why I put it in quotation marks. It's far from cool. You made more sense than I did tough.
That's probably the biggest problem with 6. Five was bad and six did nothing to improve upon it other than giving you the ability to move and shoot while pretending to have atmosphere.
And they thought that the game needed enemies with guns for some reason.
>Japanese box art: masterwork handmade painting or just the logo if the game is part of a well established franchise
>European box art: same as the Japanese or a new art giving a new look
>American box art: CGI, violence, hot girls, situational awareness pay attention -DANGER- an enemy in every corner, subtly as fuck smart game for smart gamers like myself
>Latin America box art: same as the others, but released 10 years later
>Chinese box art: telegame sanic Messi
No, shut up. Just the PC version.
>RE5 ended up sucking hard.
Fuck you, I liked it. And 6. 7 looks like streamer-fodder, though.
>And they thought that the game needed enemies with guns for some reason.
I'll give you that, that was shit.
Love that artist
>have an R9 290, i5 6500, 8 GB of RAM
>Ultimate HD version STILL has constant slowdowns with the HD texture mod installed
What the fuck am I doing wrong?
...
Jill had the best outfits. Girls in baseball caps do things to me, and her Wesker suit was pure sex.
Funny thing about RE4: you could tell that whoever made the game great has long left Capcom, even looking only at the game itself. The later parts of the main game (Island) are by far the worst, most bland, and most actiony.
More obviously, the later-added extra missions (Seperate Ways) are even fucking worse. SW has some of the worst level design, atmosphere, and flow I have seen. I couldn't believe it was even the same game, since even though it used all the same mechanics, it seemed to completely miss what made the game appealing in the first place.
I forgot Ada destroyed a warship full of zombis by herself in SW.
>About anything actually cool I hope?
very cool
