Gamepad/Controller with a usable d-pad

Playing pic related (SM) with a 360 controller is the worst shit in the entire world.
Recommend something with a d-pad that makes playing these games fun rather than frustrating. Also AM2R discussion thread also, I guess.

OP here, meant to say (SM also)

Do you mean like a controller? If so, you should get a Hori Fighting Commander. Its good for emulation.
Also there already is an am2r thread going.

planning on playing this once I finish my final exams, are the controls tailored more for modern controllers, or will this bad boy be the best way to play?

Just about any Dual Shocks have usable D-pads and can all be used on PC with the right stuff.

Buffalos' are great

That's what I'm using and it works great.

ITT: 360fags finally realizing why their pad is shit

I fucking love the Wii U Pro controller. It would be perfect if it had analog triggers.

I've known that it is shit, but I finally got fed up of trying to use this piece of shit d pad

Configuration?

Anyone got a visual glitch when you get the Gravity Suit? My copy doesn't load Samus' sprite whenever the Gravity Suit is active.

I've been using a Dualshock2 with a cheap, 10 dollar USB adapter for like 10 years (replaced a few times, but same general model). I'm forced to use x360ce on most shit, because some games don't work well with generic gamepads and with default drivers, the analog sticks get their x and y axis swapped, like the analog stick was rotated.

My DS3 has a perfectly good D-Pad.

Personally I was fine with an Xbone controller, but the game is perfectly playable with a snes controller and even has the option for Super Metroid controls in the menu. The only things you be missing out on is analogue stick walking. Also with extra shoulder buttons you can bind aiming diagonally up and down to separate buttons as well as aimlock(moonwalk) to another.

Also consider an nes30 or fc30 pro, if you're going to play anything past the snes, otherwise buffalo is a solid choice. I haven't tried it myself but I hear you can hook one up with a ps3/wii. Only real downside over a buffalo controller is the lack of turbo.

Can you play this with a wii u pro controller?

It would probably be easier than with the 360 controller that I'm using

I just beat it with an Xbox 360 controller, git gud.

>wanting to take my time with this
>constantly dodging landmines left and right with spoilers
>mfw browsing Sup Forums

So help me if I get spoiled.

Metroid is a girl.

Is this anyone else's GOTY?

I admit that I'm shit, I haven't played 2D Metroid since Zero Mission released. It is still frustrating.

PS2 controller w/ USB adapter

YES

>when you use your sick metroid skills to bomb jump into an area early, but the new area is too hard for you

Just get a regular PS3 DS3 controller. It works perfectly.

>mfw Zeta Metroid

Holy fuck, how did they go from stupid dinosaur-looking things to motherfucking Analrape-o-tron 3000 ?

yea

On normal and 15 min in, 2 energy tanks and 70 missles after getting bombs and charge beam.

Bomb jumping seems strangely easy to do compared to real metroids, and it's letting me get a lot of places so far. Is the whole game this intentionally friendly to sequence breaking tricks?

It feels that way yeah.

just wit till you fight youre first omega, every singlt one is a bitch

Why the fuck am I so bad at this Arachnus fight? I'm having a lot of trouble placing the bombs so that bitch flies into the electric spikes

Yeah

Just beat it 100% on keyboard. Amazing game. I really wish we could see something like this out of Nintendo.

Yeah, I think it is.

Gimme some help, I've bombed everything in this place, there's nothing I can find to destroy or enter to get that thing. Just the pitfall blocks I can't fall on on the other side.

There are a lot of little sequence breaks I've noticed, especially if you get the spiderball early, or earlier I guess. The game hands out the movement abilities like candy, which is great.

Just place them before he rolls on it, they explode automatically I think, and he goes higher with each bomb

Where's the Breeding Grounds on the map? I need to go back and check for shit there, but nothing labeled.
This is where I need to go.

You have to go in from the left with a shinespark

Don't play Super Metroid then

Do not forget

>nintendrones are so starved for games that they've resorted to playing fanfic rom hacks for a 30 year old game because Nintendo isn't releasing shit

The save point before the Torizo fight, you either use the speedbooster 2 rooms to the right (with the missile blocks and those awful spaz robots) or you super missile the ground in the room before it.

In the last thread someone posted a webm of it happening.
Either switch to Varia or get used to rolling around and screwattacking because those are the only other ways to see yourself.

>Area is too hard
You're talking about the area where the Gamma Metroid gets introduced aren't you?

He just flies into the air and misses usually

But what do I shinespark into?
There are no blocks to break with it. I have bombed everything.

Playing with a dualshock 3 and no problems to report.

That one area toward the end with 3 Omegas

Know what would make this game better? If, when you get to the derelict, you could just download a full map for item acquisition. By that point you're in the finale and it just means you don't have to cross reference a map off of Google.

just set the deadzone higher and dont play with the d-pad

>Its good for emulation.
until you go past the PS1

Or maybe the derelict could hold a scanner upgrade for easier item hunting if you want to be a stickler.

There should be laws against playing 2D games with an analog stick.

Toward the top part of the area where you broke blocks there's one block up there you have to super missile, you then morph ball your way through the hole it opened up to trigger some break away blocks, then you can shinespark from the left side of the room to where the super missile container is

>tfw fighting them with only 6 max super missiles

>doubbly so when i miss with one.

im really considering going back to get at least 10

>haven't played Metroid in years
>barely payed attention to AMR2
>hear Jewtendo took it down
>get torrent while I can because fuck you Jewtendo
>play it
>its genuinely fun
>mfw Nintendo managed to make me like games by being a piece of shit

...

Anyone have luck playing with a keyboard or a PS3 dualshock controller?

I did it with only like, 12 missiles, and a lot of mine missed. You can use missiles.
I played normal though, so if you're on hard you're probably fucked.

Got it, thanks for the help.

>with a keyboard
Works for me after I found better key binds.

Does anyone know how to get this missile expansion at the hydro station? I've even come back and power bombed the area

I'm using a generic logitech dualshock clone
Dpad could be better but I'm not having problems wall jumping or anything

Also this game really makes me want "A Zelda 2 Remake"

>

bullshit

I think it's about 5 to 7 super missiles to down an Omega, and when they die they give no super missiles so after you fight one pray there's a save point nearby

On hard mode the alphas take 7 missiles, the gammas take like 13 or something, so that ain't gonna cut it on hard.

screenshot of the room?

They aren't all in the same room, and you can save between fights.

Can you get me a screenshot inside the room? Its hard to remember just from the minimap

I can't beat the guy you have to drop bombs on to electrocute

Not back to back, but in that area there are 3 metroids you have to defeat and all of them are Omegas

Awesome. I'll use the keyboard then. Cheers user

it takes me 6 supers and at lest 10 regular missiles to kill one. normal difficulty

IIRC there's just a hidden wall there, bump into everything with morphball/spiderball til you get it.

this tbqh, its dpad is pure sex

Blast him away with missiles until he just rolls around the room then just time your bombs

>romhack

and at the first line you messed up

also you should try this shit, its good.

>Traveling from the Queen's nest area to the rest of the game world to wrap up item collection and back.

Looking back, are there any areas where the Spring Ball is actually required?

It's only hard when the last rung of electrocutables is left. Usually I don't have enough health to go toe to toe with him. Don't you have to do two rows of bombs to get him high enough?

Yeah..my only complaint with this remake. IIRC the original let you get every item in each area as you got to them, no backtracking required

He gets higher with each bomb so you'll just have to survive long enough to get I think 3 bombs off on him before the fight is over

>once I finish my final exams
Keep your little anecdotes to yourself, nobody gives a crap.

im in there right now, ive taken care of one, buttfuck me its so difficult to land all of my supers that its a tossup if ill make it through.

Being linear is a boring feature for metroid.

Just figured it out, it was a hidden wall farther down the room, thanks anyway

Come to think of it, no. You might be able to go everywhere with just morph ball bomb jumping.

I got to 91% item collection, with no guides, by the time I reached the last area. I didn't mind the backtracking to finish.

But at least it wasn't linear AND had backtracking like this remake

I think you just have to successfully bomb him three times in a row. Not one after another though.

The idea is that bombing him keeps him moving, making him faster, which ends up making him fly into the last electro point.

FUCK THIS NIGGER SHIT

HOW DO I WIRE A DEAD DS INTO A USB GAMEPAD

>powerbombing every room looking for breakable blocks you missed
Boring as shit, at least there's a lot of save stations to refill.

Not this guy, but quit being a faggot.

Just come back in like 10m with the spiderball.

either this, dark souls 3 or abzu

this year has been shit for videogames so far

Dont you realize this was done on purpose? Theres nothing up there for you yet.

dude just bomb jump lamo

Ok, but seriously, how do I gut an SP or DS and make a USB gamepad with them?

Or at least with their Dpad?

Or could I just make my own?

No the guy you're replying to, but go get a blog or a tinder if you're lonely.

Holy shit
The research room where you get ambushed by the alphas

That legitimately scared me for a second

Man, if I could remember where I fought the Torizo I probably wouldn't be asking. Where on the map is this area?

The save point directly above where I am.
