Regardless of your personal thoughts on the series, JoJo is undeniably one of the most influential manga of all time.
So why is it not bursting at the seams with vidya adaptations? Fucking Naruto has like 40 games, whereas JoJo has been around for far longer and only has 5 real games.
Fights usually end quickly in JoJo and are cinematic. Video game adaptations wouldn't work well if half the time the fights are just dialogue between the characters and the use of abilities that when used decide the battle
Leo Perez
Because the stand names violate so many copyrights that you might as well not bother
Logan Perez
Sort of this. Stand battles are more puzzles than anything, which is why the genre choices for previous JoJo games are kinda weird. It would work much better as a dialogue-heavy RPG kind of game with puzzle boss fights.
Nolan Richardson
Isn't that pretty much Naruto too though?
If the developers were willing to take some liberties with the fights, a game in the same vein as Ultimate Ninja Storm (i.e. standard attacks punctuated by cinematic QTE mashers that show the canon scenes from the fights) seems like it would be a great fit for JoJo. I've heard that there is a little bit of that in Eyes of Heaven, but I haven't played it.
That only explains why there aren't many JoJo games worldwide, not why Japan hasn't made a bunch of them and just not localized them.
Andrew Cox
All Star Battle and EoH are fighting games and better in gameplay than Ninja Storm because they ape off Heritage of the Future >Why are there no JoJo gams >I haven't played any of the good ones Kek I'm gonna post a pic of my waifu here
Logan Gomez
I have played All Star Battle, just not Eyes of Heaven.
Levi Hernandez
I honestly might buy a Ps4 for EoH. The arcade game of stardust crusaders just isn't doing enough for me
Aaron Foster
>EoH >Good It's a two button fighter with MOBA-styled skill cooldowns. At least two of your special moves can't be combo'd into, making them effectively worthless. DHAs require you to run into your opponent, even if your character is a projectile based character. The biggest danger is the camera on certain stages making stage hazards hard to see. This is all in a 17 hour story mode that makes the gameplay flaws more noticeable as well as offering very little in the promised crossover, as after their introductory cutscene, characters basically cease to exist outside of Jotaro. The only thing it has going for it is a large roster and fanservice, and even that gets fucked up, since it's missing Foo Fighters and DIO doesn't have a road roller
Eli Taylor
why did they take the remake of the capcom jojo game off the playstation store i wanted to play it
Jason Brooks
>Because the stand names violate so many copyrights that you might as well not bother The "characters named after bands/songs" schtick was played out after Kars anyway. Aside from a few interesting ones like Sticky Fingers and maybe Echoes, none of the references really have much to do with the shit they're named after. If the price for Jojo achieving the Western success it deserves was just the renaming of many characters then I don't see the big deal in name changes anyway.
Camden Rodriguez
Really? That fucking sucks. I was just about to buy it as soon as i got my controller back.
William Nguyen
>Wanting Stone Ocean to free Jolyne from this Stone Ocean >Wanting Zipper Man I'm all for renames if they're necessary, but they need to be necessary and they need to be acceptable replacements
Angel Edwards
It's probably easier to push a game with an ongoing animu adaptation than one with just an ongoing manga. SDC two games and IIRC it was the only animu adaptation of the series for quite some time if you ignore the Phantom Blood movie.
Gabriel Murphy
Jojo just blew up because of the anime, Naruto has been popular for years now.
Adam Walker
It's really just not as known as Naruto. everyone and their mother knows Naruto, whilst JoJo has always been more unknown, I've never met anyone in my life who's heard of JoJo even some weebs I've met.
Also copyrights.
Thomas Johnson
This, jojo has been low key influential and a cult classic but it wasn't even popular enough to get a real anime until it was 25 years old.
Andrew Thompson
I'm pretty weeb and I'd never heard of Jojo till the new anime started coming out and the Diooooooooo memes hit the streets
So yeah, just not as big in the west
Anthony Brown
Only fighting game fans really knew about it, and old school wryyyyy memers.
Adam Foster
>dio not having a road roller what the ACTUAL FUCK they couldnt have just used the ASB assets???
Thomas Murphy
Friggin WRRYYYYY Fryman, what the hell are you doing in my pool? Za Warudo
Grayson Rogers
When does homage end and copyright infringement even begin? Do these people really need to worry about Pink Floyd suing them or is it just precaution?
Lincoln Torres
Oh right, I forgot about wrryyyyyy
I was aware of wrryyyyyy but thought it was just from some wierd old SNES fighter
Back in the day there were millions of games you'd never heard about. I kind of miss hunting for gems in the game store because I can only get ONE for like 3 months.
David Turner
In the west, absolutely. But JoJo has had insane popularity and cultural relevance in Japan for years.
Matthew Williams
It's not pink floyd that does it, or any other artist. It's some little faggot from a music label company that sits 10 hours a day on the internet trying to find anyone using any of their artists name or whatnot so they can sue
Ethan Turner
Not enough popularity to get an actual anime until 2012 though
Robert Collins
I'll take >What's the OVA for 100 dollars
Gavin Russell
There was talk a while back about Prince trying to sue over Gold Experience
Angel Fisher
>Not enough popularity to get an actual anime until 2012 though Are you retarded?
Nathan Perez
Seriously, fuck what's happened to the official dub.
>Cool Ice >Shining Diamond >Mondatta Zenyatta
I CAN HEAR THE COPYRIGHT INFRINGING NAMES, GUYS, STOP CLAIMING OTHERWISE
Easton Bailey
The SDC/DiU dub and PB/BT re-dub is being handled by Viz and supposedly they've said they're going to stick as close to the original names as possible.
Robert Gonzalez
Yeah, I've got into the series because of the PS3 game, it was so bizzare that I had to get it from the discount bin. After that I've watched the Anime from 1-3 and then started reading the manga, i'm almost finished with part 7.
Nicholas Harris
Prince was a particularly litigious little faggot, he took down YouTube's of his music too
Dominic Sanchez
Prince was a fag who blew all his money on coke and was desperate for money, also his music a shit
Joseph Cook
Ok sorry let me dumb it down a little bit for you contrarian fucks
not enough popularity to get an anime that isn't a straight to video partial adaptation of one arc that literally starts in the middle, or a movie so bad Araki himself said was shit and that never got a home release.
Ryder Lopez
>Watch the blueray version >Doesn't change the names Are you some crunchyroll pleb?
Robert Taylor
>re-dub
Blake Garcia
>supposedly they've said they're going to stick as close to the original names as possible.
Justin Murphy
It is kinda odd that the series didn't get a "true" adaptation until just recently. Could be that no one wanted to do it unless they could do it justice and give it the reverence it deserves. It'd be pretty awful to be known as "the studio that fucked up JoJo".
My bad, apparently it's "unconfirmed" whether they're re-dubbing the first two parts yet, although Dio's voice actor is staying.
Evan White
I don't have faith in David production until they announce they're gonna do part 5 cause it's best part
Leo Walker
>all other parts have sold well in japan >found a sizable western audience as well >part 5 is adored in japan
of course they're gonna do part 5 ya dingus
Gabriel Lee
My main gripe is that those gooks are too lazy to record 20 minutes total of new dialogue to match the subtitles.
>Watashi no sutando 「GORUDEN EKSPERIENSU」 >(Golden wind, attack!)
Fuck off with that shit
Mason Russell
Not quite vidya, but I sortof thought this was just a meme series through and through, like it was some sort of inside joke where Sup Forumsermin try to meme and see how many things in games they can even weakly link to Jojo.
I understand now. My friend and I sat down to watch like 6 episodes together, and then she and I ended up of our own accord without input from the other downloading torrents of the rest of it and watching each up until the end of Part 1 (for her) and Part 2 (for me).
I don't know where this anime has been my entire life, but I feel as though I've been greatly blessed. What a fucking excellent show. IT IS just as fucking memetic as it's portrayed to be. I understand that now, but holy shit does it have reason to be.
It's the little things, like when Granny Erina basically just said, "mind your manners, Jojo; don't disturb the other guests, but SURE, GO AHEAD AND RAPE THIS MAFIA SCUM. WASTE THE MOTHERFUCKER."
Or that fucking string strick in "Deeper Plans" when Jojo fucking ruined Esidisi. My mouth is largely agape in every episode at some point. And the best thing is that it sets you up so you don't end up feeling anything's really forced at all.
Since I've got your attention, tell me, what are the best subs to watch Jojo with? I was hasty and just downloaded what I could find first that worked, which was DmonHiro. Is that fine?
Still have yet to download Part 3.
Cameron Clark
why do nips have such shit taste? part 3 and 5 are their favorites and are the most boring and possibly the worst parts whereas part 4 and part 7 are probably the most popular in the west
Tyler Williams
I just want part 3s comfy world travelling atmosphere with less Josuke wank and more ruse cruise insanity like part 2 is that so much to ask
>Part 4 popular in west >The slice of life part makes sense
Ayden Edwards
That picture bothers me for two reasons. 1. I'm not sure if you're implying that my post was "bait" because what I said was 100% sincere, and 2. That image would work better with a Johnny or Buccelatti fish instead of a Josuke fish since they actually fought stands with hooks
Carter Sanchez
I can't find it at least
Jaxson Kelly
I can understand why they'd like Part 3. That was the first part to have those "Nippon STRONK!" themes you see in so much Jap media. 5 is still a goddamn mystery, though. Maybe they have Italy boners?
Carter King
When the company thinks they can get some money out of it. If someone writes a fanfic and has a lot of shit in it no one cares, if they try to go the 50 Shades/Twilight route and publish their fanfic officially that's when they start calling infringement.
Josiah Williams
holy fuck, I forgot about that shit, jesus
Easton White
anything but horriblesubs and you should be fine
Brayden Walker
>JEI GAIRU >BANIRA AICU
Thomas Martin
Get ready for Part 5 brother, there's traveling out the ass and the ruse cruise is in full effect in almost every fight
Isaac Morales
I was pretty much the same way, only started watching about five weeks ago and I've already ripped through to part 7 where I am currently kinda slogging through because I fucking hate AU reboots but at least best Zeppeli is there
Cameron Butler
>Isn't that pretty much Naruto too though? maybe in the beginning, when kishimoto tried to make his fights more about strategy, then it quickly devolved into big bang nuclear rasengans
Brody Jenkins
part 7 is honestly pretty weak up until the ringo roadagain fight
Levi Perez
This and the fact that the fights aren't able to be done in videogames
I mean, most of them are won by being insanely clever and ingenius use of your power/exploiting the enemy's
Jason Allen
ZA FUUR
Kevin Anderson
Its name is surface
Dylan Moore
Just got through that the other night, I think the last major thing that happened was that Mary-Poppins-ass-motherfucker got killed finally
Also, fucking Diosaurs
Luis Smith
This, preshonenization nardo was ruse cruise fights, culminating in the Chunin exams with that chess playing shadow kid and Nardo using his clones to beat someone much better than him.
Jack Thomas
>Sheer Heart Attack, Janken Kid, I Am An Alien, and Highway Star will happen within the next few months
Landon Ortiz
Part 3 is my least favorite part but the characters and the concept of stands are some of the most influential things that have ever come from Jojo. It's really hard for a Western audience to see the originality in Stardust Crusaders because they've been exposed to many of the themes and tropes through other mediums that received better translations/localizations before Jojo.
Evan Watson
Can't fucking wait for ayy lmao
Matthew Diaz
...
Camden Allen
i mean i get that sdc pretty much wrote the book on "how to make a shonen manga" but i don't like it as much since anyone whos not named jojo or polnareff gets very little screentime/development
Ian Johnson
Remember - Part 3 is not a representation of the rest of JoJo.
The rest of JoJo, even though it uses stands, is so WILDLY different.
I mean Part 7
Hunter Phillips
And old Joseph loses his cleverness and Hamon only comes up twice
There are some really good moments that are few and far between, like Josuke and Kakyion brobonding over taking out the Chariot, or "I can see your panties" in the submarine. But yeah, it.mostly gets skimped for Josuke being a dramatic.chuuni
Leo Russell
Man if Joseph hadn't been traveling with them I'm not sure I would've even given a shit about that arc. Jotaro was way too invulnerable for most of it, to the point where his Gohaning in Part 4 and 6 actually made me care for the character more than I did during Stardust
Thomas Edwards
>Josuke
Adam Rogers
SPIN IS BEST POWERSET FIGHT ME
Carter Hernandez
Part 5 is one of the best fucking parts you tasteless mongrel. >focused, well-paced narrative with very little filler >mystery and intrigue >great main cast with some of the best characters in the entire series (Buccellati and Mista) >nonstop god tier fights like Grateful Dead, White Album, Green Day/Oasis, Metallica, and more >well done biblical parallels >King Crimson is one of the most intimidating Stands in the entire series and Diavolo is ruthless >the return of Polnareff and the fucking madness that is Silver Chariot Requiem If you don't like Vento Aureo, what do you like?
Jacob Lopez
>dub
Caleb Howard
I liked the part where Araki went "oops I made Avdol too strong, better kill him lol"
Nathaniel Morris
Alessi and Old Joseph was a missed opportunity
Thomas Nelson
Oh what the fuck ever, Jotaro. Thats forgettable that blue cap motherfucker is outside of memes
Is that really why he tried to kill Avdol? I never really got Avdol as strong, he never did anything.
Ayden Collins
>like Kakyoin >maybe he'll do something this episode >nope >ok he's back from his injury he's gonna do some cool shit now >oh wait nope >figures out Dio's stand >dies
At least he beat a baby.
Christopher Reed
>The rest of JoJo, even though it uses stands, is so WILDLY different. Part 5 is basically Part 3 but with better fights and a shittier antagonist. But for the most part you're right, each Jojo arc is vastly different. The fact that the stupid question "HURR DURR SHOULD I SKIP PART ______" gets so many different answers is a testament to that
Jose Perez
We're not upset you lost Jotaro's name, it's that you compared Josuke "I'll jew you, trick you, heal you, and beat you" Higashikata to Jotaro "I can do anything, my dick is so long that when I sit on the toilet it dips in the water, I take painful, sharp shits, and I'm still a punk" Kujo
Angel Davis
And a bug
Easton Rogers
>some of the best characters in the entire series (Buccellati and Mista) That's like all of the good characters in Part 5 right there. Part 5 is one of my favorites though
Connor Hill
My only issue with spin is that it's really not defined at all. It can be used to make your horse freak out and stomp a bridge apart, or mash a guy's face like a bullet, or make holes that can travel around on a surface, or put you in another dimension, or give you ataxia, or turn your body into a perpetually spinning prison, or make you walk after years of paraplegia.
Spin is conceptually really cool, but it does too much fucking stuff.
Ryan Mitchell
It's funny, the only bit of charactization poor Kakyion got was at the moment of his death. When it talked about his family, but how he could only think about Dios stand and how it works. And then old Joseph is like WAIT KAKYION does nothing without a reason what about that clock!
Ryder Gutierrez
He was pretty good when he came back and had some interesting applications for his stand's powers, like the life sensor thing.
Nolan Gomez
I mean in how the fights/powers are handled.
The style of storytelling doesn't change/improve 'til part 7
Jeremiah Johnson
Don't forget about his feud with the baby
Ryder Garcia
You mean like Ripple?
Jonathan Nelson
>"HURR DURR SHOULD I SKIP PART ______" There is only one answer to that, and it's don't fucking skip parts, and read in order.
Carson Miller
...
Josiah Brown
>The style of storytelling doesn't change/improve 'til part 7 And then that arc gets rushed as fuck halfway through and Araki manages to shoehorn Dio and The World into his climax yet again.
I AM SOLVING THE CAPTCHA, FUCK YOU!
Anthony King
Yeah, a lot like Ripple, except that Araki had 30 fucking years to refine his writing and still it was sloppy.
Zachary White
>it's a "kakyoin has infinite range" episode >it's a "Jotaro is strong and fast" episode >it's a "Polnareff no kimiyo na bokuden" episode
Part 3 put me off stands, and I still haven't come around on them.
They're shitty crutches that literally could've just been cool hamon powers, but they had to make their personas do all the fighting for some reason.
Alexander Garcia
part 4 and part 7
i didn't like part 5 as much since it felt like too much of a retread of part 3. giorno is void of any personality or characterization. buccelati feels more like the main character than him. like part 3 there are issues with the cast being underutilized. abbachio, trish, narancia and fugo who is later removed from the story do nothing except spout exposition or die in abbachio and narancia's case. diavolo is a shitty character. we learn very little about him and what we do learn is that he's just crazy and is as devoid of any personality or characterization as digiorno. the final battle, much like part 3's, felt like an asspull. >"fug how do i write myself out of this corner. i got it! i'll have GER just be an "i win button!"
Joseph Martin
Part 4 is objectively the worst one, though.
Leo Myers
...
Angel Nguyen
>Kakyion will never milfhunt Jotaros mom Life was unfair to him
