I want to get an AC game.

I'm currently split between Black Flag and Rogue.

Which one is better? I'm talking about the stuff you can do outside the story.

Brotherhood is my favorite.

Black flag is probably the only good pirate game I've ever played.

AC1 with the HUD turned off is the best way to play. all the other games are mindless and casual

Rouge is a lot shorter and is a more constricted black flag. Both are really good tho. Also black flag has fucking pirates

FUCK you dude kill yourself. AC Revelations and Brotherhood contained almost literally everything from AC1 and more. You can even get Altair's goddamn outfit. However for OP most definitely Black Flag.

you can't turn the HUD off in those games so the game is mindless and hand holdy

AC1 has direction built into the environment so you can discover things for yourself. It's very rewarding and immersive

but enjoy your outfit unlock I guess

technically you can turn off the HUD, but then most of the missions are impossible. AC1 is totally playable still, see the article I linked

Yeah, well, when it comes to the later games being designed around the use of HUDs, you're right.
Which is a shame because that article was pretty cool, I didn't remember there being signs which showed you the way, or how the game cleverly guides you through audio and visual cues. It's really cool. And it's something that unfortunately lacks in the later entries. I should give it a shot someday

You can fuck with all elements of the HUD in literally every single AC game, the fuck are you talking about

He's saying that while, yes, you can turn off the HUD in the latter AC titles, you can't actually play through the whole game without them, because they don't give you contextual/visual clues as to how to arrive to your destination, amongst other things.

The direction AC took after AC2 was my biggest disappointment of the generation. I will be forever butthurt that instead of simply tweaking the combat Ubisoft decided to toss out all the story, atmosphere, contextual clues and everything else that made AC feel fresh.

Both ship based games get really old really fast.

take black flag and never look back, being a pirate is ten times more fun than being an assassin.

black flag is better, but rogue is decent (and actually a sequel to IV/prequel to III)

I'd honestly say get them both if you can. Only good games outside of the Ezio trilogy.

Black flag. I liked Rogue, but:
Black flag can stand on it's own, you do not need to play a single AC before it, to understand the core - pirate - gameplay. The modern stuff is tied, but mostly fanservice, and mostly can get done fast. Bigger map, more shit to explore.
Rouge on te other hand is very very tied to the franchise, full of fanservice, characters to come back, expand, etc. Storywise its good, but end roughly, and wants to suck Unitys dick way to hard.

Black Flag. Rogue is pretty good too, just a bit too short. Black Flag is the best game in the whole series by far. A nice surprise after years of "oh hey, another yearly assassin's creed game, what else is new"
