Why was Fallout 4 bad?

Why was Fallout 4 bad?

Was it the bland dialogue?

It was too popular and the combat/gunplay actually felt like a video game.

I liked it, not the best game ever but it was fun

Its my favourite after NV, but I only played the 3d ones.

Gameplay >>>>>>> shitty bethesda attempts at writing and roleplay

this only RPG fags don't like it

funny because they praise fo3 to high heavens and it was trash rpg wise

pandering to people like this is why the game sucked

If you want a shooter there are a billion better ones

>lack of any real choice or consequence, dialog railroads you into the same scenario no matter what you choose
>no build variety or reason to specialize in anything, you very quickly become an all-powerful jack of all trades with no flaws
>everything looks like it's made out of plastic

lel get wrekt

NV > 4 > dog poop > 3

Spoken dialogue where all 4 choices were the exact same thing.
Nonsensical plot were protagonist is the leader of the Minutemen and Institute yet has influence on the plot or outcome.
Boring combat with bullet sponges.
Leveling up is uninteresting with little rpg elements.
Glitchiest bethesda game where aiming the gun launches the protagonist across the world.

>bland dialogue
>skill-based speech checks completely removed
>butchered RPG mechanics
>awful perk system
>terrible factions and story
>shitty base-building mechanics
>boring characters
>mediocre quests
>world is the least interesting to explore out of the 3
>godawful main questline

Slightly better shooting mechanics doesn't make up for all of that

if they gave all the assets to obsidian and made Fallout 4: New Vegas 2 (new new York?) we'd probably have gave of the decade on our hands

but in its current state it's like a 6/10.

No Chinese assault rifle. Fuck those pipe gun monstrosities.

open world FPS? Not really. Only one I liked better was FarCry2 after infamous fusion mod.

Every other open world fps I played is too generic, down to the gunplay

>Fallout 4 isn't the most generic
It's Bethesda's take on Far Cry 3

Are you seriously suggesting that gameplay and shooting is the strong point of FO4?

stalker is pretty fun.

haha look at this walking talking living breathing meme
look at him and laugh

>Gameplay
Good but still suffering from bad AI pathfinding and other hiccups
>Story
Fine if a little bland, also from 3's problem that if this is 200 years later why the fuck is everyone still living in ruins
>Writing
Not great, better than 3 but no where near 1,2 or NV, the Railroad in particular is bad.

not him, but the shooting is pretty good in fallout 4.

Just from playing it for awhile I'd say the dialogue system is basically pointless, theres a lack of "interesting" stuff compared to 3 and nv (the only really cool thing i found was the crashed rocket ship thing), the quests have fake options (i was impressed with the quest regarding the rocket ship and when i looked it up you actually kill the scavengers no matter what), the collecting of loot and parts is excessive and way too gamey. You can't deny that it looks and plays a LOT better than the ones before though and the companions were clearly given A LOT of time and effort.

Oh yeah, 4 is also the worst for respecting established lore

>bland dialogue
was just as bland in 3 and even worse, and there was more of it, horrible horrible dialogue just hamfisted everywhere
>skill-based speech checks completely removed
they're there just like they were in 3, with a % chance you can reload infinitely
>butchered RPG mechanics
yes, but 3 was also shitty rpg wise, do not forget that one
>awful perk system
ye
>terrible factions and story
lol story was on par with 3, factions were better
>shitty base-building mechanics
ye
>boring characters
you literally have not played it if you think the characters are worse than 3
>mediocre quests
a bit below 3
>world is the least interesting to explore out of the 3
lolno
>godawful main questline
a bit below 3
>Slightly better shooting
>SLIGHTLY

yeah right
4 has better sound design and weapons feel punchier.
SoC is my favourite FPS of all time but I don't really consider it open world

Fallout 4 is not an RPG.

why it's shit
>4 dialogues
>no skill check dialogues
>shit main story
>stupid retarded dialogue
>3 dlcs that copied mods
>3 very short campaign dlcs
>side quests are all very very linear
>forced character background (limited roleplaying)
>voiced main character
>main character immediately adapts to the wasteland as soon as they leave the vault (already know how to get into a power armor, know the drugs/meds of the wasteland, know how to use a stimpack, know how to use weaponry made after the Great War)
>synths - they were okay personally, but the whole thing felt so god damn forced
>level up are not rewarding
>piper
>almost no weapons (only one or two power fists)
>the community is fucking dogshit retarded claiming that they are original fans when they have only played 3 and NV
>modding community is fucking retarded as well

why it's okay?
>good gunplay and combat (pretty much the whole point of the game)
>crafting is pretty neato
>weapon modification is neato
>base building - didn't really like it, but it's okay I guess
>codsworth is the only good companion
>mods

6/10

So, do you think Bethesda is gonna let Obsidian take a crack at making a game or are they still to pissy about everyone liking NV more than 3?

exactly why its good
I tend to agree with you except codsworth is defo not the only good companion

I don't know if NV made as much money as 3, thats probably all they care about.

it did even after their attempt to sabotage it lol

When "it's a little better than 3" or "well 3 was shit in that regards too" is your argument then you know Fallout 4 is pretty shit too.

who the fuck thought the critical hit system was a good idea?

>the community is fucking dogshit retarded claiming that they are original fans when they have only played 3 and NV

Literally everyone on Sup Forums

yeah its a shit fallout game, and it basically is not an RPG, which is good because bethesda proved with oblivion and fallout 3 that they are not to be allowed to '''''''''design''''''''' RPGs

but its a solid shooter, the world is not randomly generated like in 3, and the characters are pretty endearing.
todd probably, its my only gripe with the gameplay, they had interns over which designed the real time FPS combat and power armor which is why they are so good, but bethesda probably wanted to keep the VATS system homegrown

>mfw redditor fucking shit hating on 4 and claiming to be old time fan
>started with 3 and never played the older ones
>also likes 3 more than nv

Just fucking irony filled bottle right there

> SoC isn't open world
Nigger you fucking WHAT

Okay I see what you're saying at this point.

well you progress through levels, you can go back and forth between them 99% of the time and they're open but I dont think its really standard open world scenario, is it?

>like in 3

?

>randomly generated like in 3
what drugs are you on?

At the fuckin start of the game you can make your way to Chernobyl, the bar, any area in the game really.
There are quests and there are sidequests, and there is literally no barrier outside the "brain scorcher" which can be circumvented without quests.
Shut the fuck up.

just because they threw a couple of buildings around in a sandbox doesn't mean the sandbox wasn't randomly generated

it has ZERO verticality unlike 4, almost no unique landscapes, and basically relies on LOL GUIZE CHECK OUT HOW MUCH SHIT WE THERE IS HERE WACKY HUH?

its still not standard open world scenario

do you think the elder scrolls VI will suffer the same fate as fallout 4? Should we give up now?

Oh really? And what would a "stand open world scenario" pertain then?
Because going by your fucking twit logic since it has a natural game progression which is accomplished by quests, fucking GTA isn't open world.
Neck yourself you autist.

a game with a big fucking map and that's it? what is your problem even m8?

by your definition, SoC IS an open world game

>bethesda
>designed good melee combat AND having the magic feel good with depth at the same time

Never. Then again I never would have believed they could make solid gunplay before 4 so who knows

Redditors like you on Sup Forums.
Fucking go back you hipster normie halfwit.
We don't want you here, nor do we want your shit taste and idiotic opinions.

Bland dialogue.

No good characters, everyone acts like a robot all the fucking time.

The lore was almost completely forgotten and the inconsistency justified with "i-it's j-just a video game, s-shut the fuck up!" by the writers themselves.

Gameplay is just Borderlands + better gameplay, which would be fine if it weren't for the fact that this game was marketed as an RPG, which it wasn't almost at all. The only RPG-thing in the game was the perk- and XP-system, nothing else felt like what an RPG should feel like.

whatever then, I'll just call it pseudo-open world and if it triggers you then so be it I cant be arsed

>bad
It wasn't bad. Its main narrative was awful. The game is tonally confused, wanting to be a wacky cartoon but at the same time offer a grave and sobering look into the horrors of nuclear war and the human cost.

I killed a kid when I blew up the Prydwen but it's supposed to be a heroic Fuck Yeah moment. I lied to my son and his friends and Liam and murdered all of them, my son included, and blew up the Commonwealth's best chance at recovery and healing in a nuclear explosion--perpetuating the same fucking violence that ruined my and my family's life.
It is literally never explained why the Institute replaced people with Synths. That's just an intriguing plot point that goes nowhere. I don't even know why the Institute are bad guys. They're mean and think they know better? That's cause for annihilation?

The game had some decent quests, though. The one with the robots on the ship was hilarious.

never been there but you'd love the bubble they have going on since you get triggered by anyone not agreeing with you

bet you love fallout 3 too don't ya, redditor fucking shit?

at least try to look like bait

Shit dialogue, all playthroughs feel the same, shitty factions, boring story, boring world, collecting shit to build and upgrade is dull, only a handful of sidequests are fun, expensive dlc and gamebreaking bugs

I feel like i should clear up.

By "Borderlands + better gameplay" i meant that the game was just shooting and looting. That's fine for shit like Borderlands, but when you have the balls to market your game as an RPG, then you know you've fucked up.

they had the balls to market fallout 3 as rpg before too

shows how fucking garbage bethesda has been for a while now

> SoC an open world game isn't an open world game
> OMG STOP DISAGREEING WITH ME IT ISN'T AN OPEN WORLD GAME BECAUSE I SAID SO
Yeah no I'm not buying it.

people will try to defend 3 as an rpg but in truth the roleplaying amounted to you being

>son of james, wasteland jesus
>son of james, the antichrist
>son of james, bipolar retard

which is better than 4 I guess but its still not an RPG

Your lack of ability to explain why SoC isn't an open world game doesn't actually mean it's not an open world game.

kek check out this triggered redditor, bet you defend fo3 and report new vegas threads out of spite

Your lack of ability to explain why SoC is an open world game doesn't actually mean it is an open world game.

Damage control, the post.
How about we return to the main point at hand, which is SoC and how it's a fucking open world game and how much of a fucking retard you are.

But I have explained why it's an open world game, while you regurgitated the same senseless drivel.

no need to be so triggered m'redditor
But I have explained why it's not an open world game, while you regurgitated the same senseless drivel.

@347666724
you tried

> but I have explained
Where

where did you?

>son of james, bipolar retard
>not being son of james, the heroic kleptomaniac

Is it worth getting it on that half off sale?

Why was "war never changes" repeated so many times in the intro if the game wasn't really about that at all?
Why does a story about artificial intelligence belong in the Fallout universe?
Why are there so many pipe weapons when they are never good enough to use except in dire situations when you have no ammo for anything else?
Why were advanced companion commands removed?
Why were ammo types removed?
Why was reputation removed?
Why were skills removed?
Why can the main character build massive water purifiers and complicated structures right off the bat?
Why can the female main character, a lawyer, pilot power armor?
Why can't I join or start a raider group?
Why can't I join or hire the Gunners?
Why aren't there any prostitutes?
How does Diamond City defend itself with baseball bats and pipe weapons?

no just pirate it

-t someone that put 90 hours in it and still playing

the game will probably never be below 50 off
fallout 3 , NV, and the classic collection used to be 75 off, but now they're just at 50 or less off
it's probably best to buy it now
or just pirate it

...

prove your claims then

stop replying to bait

Woah there buddy. To answer all of those questions: it just works, okay?

>those
>important questions

lol fuck off to redlettermedia

More important question is who the fuck is Shaun's father?

I played SoC. Anyone who played SoC can affirm it.

that does not quantify as proof

Shaun IS father.

ok then prove you played SoC

just go look up a video on youtube as proof

I'm done
> open world game isn't open world
> because I said so
kys
>>>/reddit/

how can reddit be real if our shitposting isn't real?

>Why was "war never changes" repeated so many times in the intro if the game wasn't really about that at all?
It's the tagline of the game, immortalized by Ron Pearlman in the intros and now made into a meme by Todd.
>Why does a story about artificial intelligence belong in the Fallout universe?
Because it's a recurring theme in Fallout. There are multiple sentient AI's in the universe, from The Emperor, a navigational computer from a Chinese submarine leading the people of San Francisco to Skynet at the Mariposa facility and Vault 1 AI in Fallout Tactics.
>Why are there so many pipe weapons when they are never good enough to use except in dire situations when you have no ammo for anything else?
Easy to make. Outside of the NCR there is no large-scale production of firearms.
>Why were advanced companion commands removed?
Design decision.
>Why were ammo types removed?
Design decision.
>Why was reputation removed?
Design decision.
>Why were skills removed?
Design decision.
>Why can the main character build massive water purifiers and complicated structures right off the bat?
Because base building is already useless, making it a boring grind to learn how to make a piece of drywall would have been terrible.
>Why can the female main character, a lawyer, pilot power armor?
Her husband showed her on an occasion where she visited him at the base
>Why can't I join or start a raider group?
You never could in any FO games. Raiders are the absolute dredge of post-nuclear society. You can just dress like one and pretend.
>Why can't I join or hire the Gunners?
Design decision.
>Why aren't there any prostitutes?
Design decision based on feminist complaints.
>How does Diamond City defend itself with baseball bats and pipe weapons?
By having several strong gates, high walls and a multitude of turrets outside.

It was alright, just not the special game we were expecting. Half of the overhype killed it and then the reason it was boring to me was because quest were bland and the locations felt uninspired.

shitposting... shitposting never changes

All fair points. I still don't see why I shouldn't be able to join a raider group though.
And obviously those things are design decisions, but the question is why?

better question is why not

Think about it yourself and offer me an answer, then I will tell you the truth.

literally anyone who defends this garbage is a casual or 12 years old

>design decision excuses it
In ES VI the entire game is just Todd jerking off into a pile of our burning money. It was a design decision.

>hey lets make a building system that's so fucking boring and redundant and if anyone complains about it we can fall back and just say its optional
>hey lets make a weapon crafting system that is also boring as shit, but now all the guns are made of fucking wood and lead pipes. This'll save us loads of time compared to making more than 30 weapons
>hey lets make a system where you strap armor onto clothes you're already wearing
>that way you can wear mediocre looking armor over your mediocre looking clothes while firing your mediocre looking gun at some mediocre looking enemies
>also we'll set the gamma on all the textures really high so everything looks like its chugged a gallon of bleach, which is what you'll want to do playing this game
>and lets remove all these pesky RPG mechanics, they're way too complicated for the fucking retards that buy our games. While we're at it traits can fuck right off too.
>lets have the MC's talk as well, we can get away with writing less dialogue and railroading the player into the shitty main story that way

Literally the only thing that I thought was good was the Silver Shroud Radioplay

Would it be too much of me to ask you to shoot yourself?

I ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY LOVE SEARCHING FOR ADHESIVE AND ALUMINUM EVERYTIME I WANT TO CRAFT SOMETHING

Its less of an RPG than SKYRIM.

Can you imagine whats in store for the next ES game?

It was the scripters fault reee

...

>hey lets make a system where you strap armor onto clothes you're already wearing

This could have worked if all the armor in the game didn't look it was taken from a shitty MMO.
