What are the realistic chances Obsidian ever gets to touch the Fallout franchise again?

Do you think they would make a good game if they got the chance?

I am willing to be they are working on a new fallout game now. The market clearly wants more fallout and bethesda has all these art assets which obsidian can use which means it would be cheaper to produce then fallout 4. I think it would be a stupid business move not to be making another fallout game at this moment. I don't remember a game having more hype from its announcement to release then fallout 4, its best to keep the ball rolling.

You are more optimistic than I am.

>Do you think they would make a good game if they got the chance?.

It would be better than FO4 and FO3 and thats why is not gonna happen.

They keep making bethesda look bad.

I think this depends more on obsidian. They dont want to get cucked again thats why they are developing their own IPs.

I don't think so. Obsidian has their tank game that requires support, they've got Tyranny in the works, as well as publically stating that they're trying to be more proactive about actually owning IPs. There's also the question of whether or not they'd even have the manpower to do another Fallout while the rest is happening simultaneously.

Bethesda offered Obsidian a chance to work under them just like Arkane and Obsidian refused, now Arkane is developing multiple excellent looking games and Obsidian is going bankrupt.

The only game close to excelent being developed by arkane is Dishonored and that's a long time away

If they where allowed to use F4 assets, they could make a really good game.

there is always a downtime after Fallout dies down and they start working on a new Elder Scrolls

The only reason you praise Obsidian is because of the writing

Let's not pretend that the rest of the trashcan team is worth saving

a few months

That was in 2012 user.

Obsidian almost went under precisely because bethesda didnt give them their bonus for new vegas.
They would be stupid to do the same shit all over again.

From what i know pillars has sold well but obsidian depends on the new ip they are developing.

Not to mention heavy implications that theyre going to be working on a sequel to VTMB.

Theyre way too busy right now. I wouldnt be surprised we see another FO by one of Bethesdas other studios before you ever see another Obsidian one.

Both Sawyer and Avellone have made fairly clear that the chance is about 0%. I doubt Bethesda will ever let anyone else develop a Fallout game unless they somehow get into financial difficulty and need them royalties.

Why not? Zenimax can literally sit on their ass, not allocate any of their own resources except put them on the E3 stage and distribute the game and make a billion dollars off of it.

You guys think these people have some sort of childish feud because people like NV more than 3 and 4? And even if they did, you think that would get in the way of a corporation making a profit?

I mean seriously, Bethesda can't fucking let them make another one. Just imagine how fucking shitty Fallout 4 would look compared to a game made by someone who actually knows what they are doing.

>Obsidian fails to meet the requirements to get their bonus
>This is somehow Bethesda's fault

I don't know if Zenimax even makes the decision or if it's Bethesda Game Studios. It does seem like it'd be free money though, so probably BGS since Zenimax are the profit focused end. I don't think anyone's actually said why it won't happen, just that it won't.

Avellone: twitter.com/ChrisAvellone/status/713140991121711104

Don't have the source for Sawyer on hand but he said something (maybe on his tumblr?) about how NV was the biggest game he had worked on or ever would, implying no FO: New Orleans or whatever.

That is their fault. Bethesda promised QA and then they basically said "you're on your own" once the game was actually playable

In fairness, they missed it by like 1 point or something on Metacritic, and Bethesda handled the bug testing which is the main complaint reviewers had at launch (besides it being ugly as fuck, but Gamebryo and FO3 assets meant that wasn't fixable.) So they kind of fucked Obsidian there.

To a casual gamer that does not matter.

Because inferior games damage the franchise, another Obsidian Fallout would generate money in the short-term, but it would also lower the long-term value of the brand.

Probably slim, no matter how sad that thought makes me. New Vegas from what I remember wasn't as popular for mainstream audiences and in reviews it was criticized for not having an interesting world to explore and being buggy as hell. And while it has fantastic writing and a lot more depth that either FO3 or 4, the general public audience doesn't see that. A fact that can be noted by reviews and common reactions to it online. From a pure business standpoint and how successful FO4 was giving Obsidian the reins on another one doesn't make a huge amount of sense. When FO4, with all of its shallow mechanics and last minute thrown in features, sells amazingly there's very little reason to hand it over to another developer. Unless, of course, Bethesda is cool with what New Vegas sold and just wants to make money off the franchise while working on other shit.

If they got a chance I think they could make a good game. A while back I thought I heard that some writers left Obsidian which could certainly impact what they could make, but I may be wrong. Regardless, as long as it isn't as buggy as New Vegas and has a slightly more interesting world to wander around it'd be successful. I've put hundreds of hours into New Vegas despite the issues based solely on the writing and attention to detail in the world. So if they cleaned up some of the issues they had and were given a bit more time to make a product it'd be fantastic. Still doubtful they'd be given the ability to make another Fallout though.

I just downloaded Fallout 4. Any recc mods/dlc?
Also what's the godstat in this game? Now that skill points are gone it can't be Intelligence.

>Obsidian almost went under precisely because bethesda didnt give them their bonus for new vegas
That's utter BS, lots of the devs are on twitter including Sawyer and Avellone and they've said it wasn't a big deal at the end of the day.

when the biggest complaint was how fucking buggy it was and Bethesda was in charge of QA, yeah it is.

I highly doubt that even Bethesda has the ability to say "don't let another company make us a billion dollars by licensing our IP"

Obsidian almost went out of business before the Pillars of Eternity Kickstarter, not sure how much the potential New Vegas bonus was and if it would have made them financially stable, though.

It's intelligence

Just like most of the games Crit builds are broken. Especially with the ability to save crits. You can save like three or four crits then use them all up on one enemy. Add to it the fact that crits are nearly guaranteed hits even with low odds, you can get perks to improve crit damage, and weapons can be found to build crit faster.

Low intelligence is also not terrible. With the retard perk or whatever you just randomly get large amounts of experience for whatever. It happens more often based on how low your intelligence is. So not only do you get constant amounts of experience for any action, but you get to spend those SPECIAL points in other areas.

The game is broken as hell. To the point it gets boring fast.

New Vegas is held in high regard compared to Fallout 3 by fans and the only legitimate complaint against New Vegas was how fucking buggy it was (Bethesda's fault)

And I don't know, maybe giving Obsidian more than 18 months of development would have helped too.

>the only legitimate complaint against New Vegas was how fucking buggy it was

To be fair most of the world is also rather boring to explore. Populated areas are fantastic and there's a lot of attention to detail, but they're are a shit ton of locations that just hold a star bottlecap. Seriously, I was playing just yesterday and tried just randomly exploring without a goal. The amount of random caverns with nightstalkers or shacks with a star bottlecap and nothing else is infuriating.

Obviously due to the lack of time and resources they had, but still a legitimate complaint.

None. Bethe$da knows well that what sells the most is making bland as fuck shooters with minimalistic RPG elements because it appeals to normies.

The ones that prob dont want it is obsidian not zenimax.

You said it yourself zenimax has every reason to want to do it. They dont do shit and let the good devs make them millions

am I the only one who thinks this works well in Bethesfags favor? even the casuals on youtube are sick of fallout 4 and there are plenty of reviews out now that generally dislike Fo4, by having Elder scrolls they can keep alternating between the two games, since most of us are kinda hungry for a new elder scrolls at this point, even if we know its going to be a terribly overhyped game.

Also, most of the stuff outside of the main areas is ridiculously unfinished, like westside, which is so underused they should have just cut it from the game completely.

>damaging the franchise

Lol is funny given how we just got the abortion of FO4.

do you play modded? look up a mod called "a world of pain", it adds like 114 new locations to explore, its pretty nice for people who've beaten vanilla vegas multiple times

>that fallout 3 summary

what the fuck is that guy even talking about? it sounds like he looked at the back of the case and try to wing a summary the same way 10th graders wing book reports

This picture is eerily prophetic given it was made in 06.

Probably never

Avellone is no longer with them and I'm certain Sawyer doesn't want to be lead on anything again after Fallout 2, not to mention Obsidian has plenty of projects going on already

Thats fucking the same as FO4.

Outside of hunting for legendaries and building shit theres fuck to do in the game.

Remember how in FO4 theres a race track of robots and an underground fighting location where all you can do is....

Kill everybody.

Fuck that game

>made in 06
No way. This pic is so fucking realistic.

I have played World of Pain. It's super boring. I like the idea behind it, but it's just a bunch of areas with somewhat boring places to explore and a shit ton of enemies in them. It's just not my thing personally.

I feel like Bethesda stopped wanting to make a Fallout game halfway through development and that's why you have so much shit like this.

You can't even kill as many NPCs or any companions, because god forbid the player have some choice.

Shills user.

Also known as game """"""""""journalism""""""""""

Not necessarily. I dislike FO4 possibly more than most people, but even I have to admit areas were a bit more interesting to explore. New Vegas has a bunch of single room (sometimes not even places you can enter) locations with a single star bottlecap or a pack brahmin containing random junk. FO4 tends to have at least a little more going on in the areas with multiple rooms, floors, other shit. Even random shacks in the world tended to have some kind of basement or story element. Whereas New Vegas literally has some spots where it's a slight alcove with some drugs and a star bottlecap.

The main issue with FO4's areas is that they're ruined by that shitty chest you find at the end. Just like in Skyrim, the second you find that chest at the end of the "dungeon" you know that's it. You found your prize that consists of leveled drugs, pipe weaponry, and a gold/silver watch. Stop exploring, here's your prize, now leave. With New Vegas that was often times what the star bottlecap would be, but most of the time you could find some other junk around like food, water, ammo, or even just a small story told through the environment. It wasn't great, but slightly better than FO4's trunks.

I remember my mom telling me to never respect journalists and never trust a word they say when I was younger.

that cant be right, Twitch was founded in 2011, unless they are talking about something else.

>don't get a "bonus"
>almost go bankrupt
You know you're not supposed to rely on bonus money to keep your studio afloat, right?

oh great it's another obsidian makes the best fallout thread

your all faggots

*you're

>Twitch.

They are probably using it in the context of FPS for fallout 3
