What went wrong with touhou? How do we stop it from falling into irrelevance and mediocrity?

More people should play actual games instead of learning about the series through the internet and collecting images of pretty girls they know nothing about.

Futo playable in shmup when?

Loli's only appeal to a niche market of gamers. Do these games have anything really going for them otherwise?

It's been almost 2 decades, let it die already.

Boatsluts killed it

>lolis
I don't think that's true, many people like lolis. It's more the fact that people don't like shoot em ups.

It's been over 3 decades since Dragon Ball started, and they're not about to let that die.

No, user, most people have the presence of mind not to get involved with Lolis. As a man on the outside, I didn't even realize what genre these games were but I'd seen enough to know I would never play them.

When ZUN gets off his ass and finally decides to give Futo what she deserves.

Looking for a decent touhou dating sim

why would you date a Touhou?

You have no idea what these games are then because the character sprites are barely recognizable and definitely not sexualized.

It's fine.

you're right
he's just retarded
or confused some fangame for an official game

Damage is done, everyone but the secondaries already moved to CAVE. Rightly so too, the games are just better.

>second highest number of circles at comike despite also having reitaisai twice a year
>what went wrong hurr durr

Western fanbase was a mistake.

>ugly bullet patterns that are hard for the sake of hard
>boring, uninteresting "characters" that are only there so you can shoot and have a sprite to shoot at
>music is usually generic techno garbage vastly inferior to anything ZUN could come up with
>better

You wouldn't?

>Never has actually played 2hu or CAVE "the post"

I'd hang out with the Taoists but no I'd never date them

Here's a better chart. See those red bars? Those are all yaoi circles.

Is this the thread for secondary kusoposting.

>kancolle
>yaoi
>tiger & bunny
>no yaoi

>implying
>I enjoy looking at massive curtains of ugly glowing bullets with cheap pixel perfect dodging patterns that require you to keep all your bombs for the final boss which consist of even dumber patterns, shitty techno music and retarded boss screams

It's not labeled because it's already a given that it and Free! are all yaoi.

t.secondary

kancolle might be counting futa and traps
dunno about Tiger & Bunny

t. tertiary that pretends he's even approached either game to sound hardcore

The game made its mark by entering a genre dominated by space ships and shit but being about cute girls

It has since been killed by the Indian burial ground it was built upon because nothing designed around cute girls will last through the endless shitposting of waifus, no matter the quality

I have never, literally never, in all my years on Sup Forums, seen a Touhou thread where people actually discussed the gameplay of Touhou for more than a post or two

>even approached either game to sound hardcore
>You have to pretend to play a game to be hardcore.
>Playing games is hardcore.

But that's the thing i don't even know where to begin with this series

Anyone knows any good starting point?

>The game made its mark by entering a genre dominated by space ships and shit but being about cute girls
What are Deathsmiles, Mushihimesama, and QP Shooting - Dangerous!!?

>lmao dude play a real bullet hell that is known to be much harder and almost impossible
>not trying to be hardcore
I mean, just post your scores dude. I'm sure you can prove me wrong

Start with IN if you're new to bullet hell. EoSD otherwise.

There's more than waifus and bullets in Touhou, there's an entire setting there. There's not a whole lot to discuss about shmups in general, the genre is too simple, too pure to be encapsulated by words. I certainly don't believe in locking people out of Touhou discussion because they're bad at the games, as long as they understand that the games ARE Touhou.

I suggest Perfect Cherry Blossom or Mountain of Faith.

All of those games came out almost decade or more after the first couple of Touhou games

Is there also any lore i should look up? There seems to be a lot of inside jokes, memes and references all over the place and i seem to miss the point a lot

All younger than touhou

>known to be much harder and almost impossible
>No one in the history of mankind has ever cleared Mushihimesama Original or Maniac. It's literally impossible.
L-lads it's the Dark Souls of STG!

>reading comprehension

not really. Just about all of the game have a self-contained story. The only joke that really needed an explanation is Marisa's decimal system pun to Rumia.

I misread your post as "is" dominated. Instead of made it's mark in a genre that "was" dominated.

Yeah, the wiki is a pretty good source for all the info available about a given character, most of which comes from the character profiles included in the readme. I think most DLs don't provide a readme translation though, so again you kind of have to go to the wiki for it.

what's the joke?

...

Perfect Cherry Blossom since has the most basic mechanics at its core without any gimmicks and it's fairly easy.

It's impossible, Otaku culture has degenerated.

What's popular now is something akin to the 80's american movie cliche of "my girl is a slut, but only for me". Unless your series is full of comically oversexualized characters that at the same time act like quakers outside of their one specific personality trait that aims towards a specific fetish, you do not receive the time of day from the fanbase because there's been a waifu arms race since the early 80's and that's all that gets the NEET's sprung anymore.

2hu worked because when it came out the idea of the fan works sexualizing what was otherwise not very sexual content was way more appealing then just sexualzing already sexual characters, especially to a country that deeply understands that often the most erotic thing is what you can't see with clothing like the kimono like japan.

But now everything I just said doesn't matter because, again, you need to show all the goods upfront because otaku as a culture are akin to heroin addicts that need a bigger and bigger fix to get the same high, a process not helped by companies specifically trying to one up the competition by being even more shocking.

>What's popular now is something akin to the 80's american movie cliche of "my girl is a slut, but only for me". This. It's pretty disgusting.

That would explain why Senran Kagura is so popular.

I would hate for people to lump Touhou in with Senran Kagura or Hyperdimension Neptunia. Touhou is a product of a different age, a holdover from when moe didn't have to mean shit, when you could have cute girls without indulging in the most base and mindless pandering.

Futo thread?

6, nigger.

>I would hate for people to lump Touhou in with Senran Kagura or Hyperdimension Neptunia. Touhou is a product of a different age
It's an older version of the same pandering that has evolved into that.

...

>Senran Kagura
>popular
On Sup Forums maybe.

It was always irrelevant and mediocre.

Come to bed, user.

I don't think we're in disagreement.

It makes me want to screencap this and post it over every DoA and SK thread in this site, not sure if Sup Forums would agree with this

...

Proper Touhou thread when?

I don't even mind porn games. I just think they're encroaching too much on the mainstream. Everyone wants to get off sometimes, but all the time? Isn't it kind of pathetic if you need that extra kick of arousal to purchase a game?

Futo a cute.

>my moe is better than your moe!
I never thought I'd see the day, but it finally happened.

Tell me more.

What's the third one? I can only read kana.

Touken Ranbu

in case you don't know what it is, it's literally kancolle with swordboys

Dude.

No.

Just, no.

Don't Delete this

There is something odd in paying for what could be considered "ecchi" games. Is not even something akin of "erotica", it is just fanservice, plain old fanservice

I'm talking about girls wearing skimpy outfits for the sole reason of exposing everything. It doesn't only bother me that they actually spend money for content they can find on a simple google search, it also gets me that they DEFEND that as anything more than cash for tits

It is why i instantly feel rejection everytime i see a new weeb game, it is like 80% chance you are only going to get fanservice with mediocre gameplay

you are describing me user, do I know you?
no, im not a faggot

>Touhou thread early in the day
>it literally cannot be any more cancerous
GEE I WONDER IF THERE'S A CONNECTION

>fujo mobage
Welp

How come I don't see it on sad panda? Does this shit not get translated or something? I just searched for it and there's like 2 pages of translated doujins, is it just not popular enough in the west to get people to translate it?

Just remember that things could always be more cancerous.

I just feel like the games got worse over time after peaking after the first three windows games.

TD was the only game I've genuinely enjoyed since SA. Many of the newhus just aren't very memorable in terms of looks, bullet patterns, or music at least to me. Similarly, the newer games just haven't felt as interesting. I liked LoLK in terms of setting and music, but the difficulty wastoo much. I have no problems clearing it in the weird endless restart mode but there's no way I could even do normal in classic despite clearing the other games on hard or lunatic. It just killed the game for me.

People just get bored, it's old as fuck and the formula never changed. It went unchallenged for nearly 20 years until Kancolle came around, which couldn't have come at a more perfect time where Japan is starting to regain their (in)famous patriotism. It didn't help that Fate and GBF also gained lots of traction.

I think UFO and TD were the nadir of the series and that ZUN is more or less back on track with UFO and LOLK. Maybe they're not as good as the classics from PCB to SA, but they're worthy entries in their own right.

its theme is kind of Japan-exclusive, and Japanese fujos are their own breed of disgusting.
Also, everything comes in the west years after it becomes a hit in Japan. Might have something to do with that.

Or it's because westerners can't do a faggoty country LARP like with Hetalia

>muh old games are bettur!!! nostuhlgia!!11
Yeah, that user was right. It could always be more cancerous.

Nah dude. PC-98 through EOSD are kind of eh, I think the series hit its heyday from PCB to SA.

>6pm
>early in the day

>miko has a woman's body
>futo doesn't
>futo objects to this
Why did the plate reject the sword here?

I'm pretty conflicted about LoLK. I love the premise of it : the Earth is in danger, going to the Moon... I feel the difficulty actually emphasizes that pretty well. The music is great yeah, and I dig the graphics too (gorgeous backgrounds on stage 3, 5 and 6, those confetti things on enemies' death, the purple accents on grazing...)
But I wish the Legacy mode had some more attention to it. The resource system is dumb and some spellcards have just no room for error.

There is a Taoist sex myth that fucking underage girls can lead to infinite life.

>Some Ming dynasty Taoist sects believed that one way for men to achieve longevity or 'towards immortality' is by having intercourse with virgins, particularly young virgins. Taoist sexual books, such as the Hsuan wei Hshin ("Mental Images of the Mysteries and Subtleties of Sexual Techniques") and San Feng Tan Cheueh ("Zhang Sanfeng's Instructions in the Physiological Alchemy"), written, respectively, by Zhao Liangpi and Zhang Sanfeng (not to be confused with semi-mythical Zhang Sanfeng who lived in an earlier period), call the woman sexual partner ding (鼎) and recommend sex with premenarche virgins. Zhao Liangpi concludes that the ideal ding is a premenarche virgin just under 14 years of age and women older than 18 should be avoided.[15] Zhang Sanfeng went further and divided ding into three ranks: the lowest rank, 21- to 25-year-old women; the middle rank, 16- to 20-year-old menstruating virgins; the highest rank, 14-year-old premenarche virgins.

The sword advances for immortality, the plate refuses for marriage purity.

That was the intended function of Legacy mode, though. It was supposed to be a little unfair towards the player

Tiger and bunny is still a thing?

Also if I've never played the games should I throw my money at the ps4 game coming out next month?

>There is a Taoist sex myth that fucking underage girls can lead to infinite life
Heh Just like South Park.

Too bad Futo's an old hag now.

Now you're just talking non-sense.

Yeah, you're not wrong. It's frustrating, and that's probably the reason why I'm so on the fence. It's such a change from the other mainline game too.
Well, I hope the bragging rights after beating Lunatic Legacy will be worth the ride.

Not enough Sekibanki.

(You)
Oh yeah, while I'm at it, too. There's a incentive to clear Legacy mode without any misses, but the gamemode gives only four bombs or something.
I mean come on. I haven't tried, but at this rate I'm pretty sure that's only a step below NMNB.

In that particular series, Miko is still in his/her male body. What Futo means here by not possessing a "woman's body" is that she's infertile. Miko even comments that this saves him trouble, on the next page.

>a Futo thread on Sup Forums

Thanks user, you just made my day a little better. Have my contribution to the cause.

what was the name of this doujin?

What at art thou gawping?
