Why is Nintendo so afraid of tone shifts in Mario these days? Luigis Mansion had a genuinely spooky atmosphere and even Super Mario Sunshine felt like an actually native place.

Do you wish they'd do more games like these or are you ok with the sort of homogenization they've been doing recently?

They're bleeding money and playing it safe.

>genuinely spooky

Not really.

Well, maybe when the power went out.

So how much atmosphere did this series lose with it's sequel?

>genuinely spooky atmosphere

I don't think so. Maybe there were a couple of areas here and then, but the game was quick to remind you that you were playing a Mario game with its silly ghosts and those terrible boo puns.

Holy fuck Luigi's mansion is the king of spooky yet fun atmosphere. The game was genuinely spooky when the power in the whole house turned off about 3/4ths though the game, nowhere was safe.
Sunshine was good as well but for different reasons

hmm...

hmm hmm hmm

hmm...hmm...hmm...

Because Sony and Microsoft are crushing them in quality (as usual).

And nintendo feels like giving up and dying.

A fair bit. Here's an analogy for it.
Luigi's Mansion is silly in a creepy way but Dark Moon is creepy in a silly way.

LM was spooky? I felt more like it had a mysterious goofy exploration atmosphere.

LM was not spooky.
GC one was.

perfectly okay with Dark Moon tbqh

I did miss the unique ghosts but liked the boss fights(sans the haunted clock) and the Poltergust upgrades were WAY too strong or necessary for the really high HP bullshit

the ending was pure justice, Luigi getting all the attention, nearly completely kicking his fear of ghosts -and- adopting Polterpup? fucking perfect

Why are you contradicting yourself? You say Luigi's Mansion was not spooky, but at the same time, it is?

He thought you were talking about Dark Moon because he didn't realize he was looking at an L instead of a D.

mario isn't really know for silly ghosts and puns

So is King Boo the only villain who could actually defeat Mario

Because the Gamecube got shafted for it, in the absence of a mainline game.

Wind Waker wouldn't have caught so much shit, if only it had been released after a LoZ that looked like the Space World 2002 Tech Demo.

Bowser also traps Mario in SM64DS.

Mario Sunshine is my favorite in the series simply because of how fucking fresh yet familiar it feels. Every enemy and every character feels new, but they all fit with the traditional Mario enemy mechanics.

Mario sunshine is a bootleg Sonic adventure 2

and fuck modern Mario for making its characters behave like retarded sonic ocs. im looking at you "donut steal" Rosalina

Not canon.

Miyamoto wants Mario games to be a cheerful, festive experience

Here's another analogy
Luigi's Mansion is Goosebumps
Dark Moon is 60's Scooby Doo

That is the most retarded way of describing sunshine I've ever seen, would you please elaborate?

>Mario sunshine is a bootleg Sonic adventure 2
What the actual fuck does this even mean?

>Mario sunshine is a bootleg Sonic adventure 2

And Space Channel 5 is a bootleg Dance Dance Revolution?

Is that wrong though?

No we need edgy, edgy makes everything better I want my friends to think I'm cool.

Dark Moon was a fantastic game, and I love how unhinged King Boo was in it. They may have toned down the atmosphere, but he sure as shit didn't lose anything in the transition.

First game was still better, but I wasn't let down.

Faker? I think you're the fake around here. You're comparing yourself to me? Ha. You're not even good enough to be my fake.

see here Shadow Mario is literally just Shadow

Okay, how much sense does that make outside of school recess tier discussion about games?

Mario games will never be amazing until Daisy gets her model fixed and her tan back. Mark my words.

Once you see Nintendo doing this, it's time.

I'll make you eat those words!

Until they start reusing the old Mario 64 renders.

They gotta make it HD and re texture it!
Then it'll look great!

What complaints do you guys have about Luigis Mansion? In my eyes, it's pretty damn close to a perfect game. Fun, innovative and it never has a "ugh this part" segment. Im curious Sup Forums

I felt cheated by how short it was when I was a kid, but that was a different time and I had a different mindset. At this point I find it hard to level a criticism against it other than it maybe being a bit easy, but that's what trying to get the best mansion and all the gold framed portraits is for.

Luigi's Mansion is legitimately my favorite game ever. Dark Moon wasn't a bad game, but I feel like it lost a lot in its atmosphere change.

Also to some people the blackout part was definitely a "ugh this part" segment, considering the hint about where to find the ghost made no sense (room of mirrors? Oh, so that room that just had one tiny ass mirror in it) and people had no idea where to find him. It's also kinda short.

If they ever make a 3rd game I hope it's more like the first one, but I really can't see that happening again. It came out at the right time, the way I see it.

Was Bowser dead?

>If they ever make a 3rd game I hope it's more like the first one, but I really can't see that happening again. It came out at the right time, the way I see it.

Dark Moon was the way it was due to being on a handheld, at least the mission format and things were a bit brighter due to the 3D screens not taking to darkness well. If LM3 was on a console, it probably be closer to the first one.
