It's a big game, and it was obviously going to be single player, but people are now throwing tantrums because they don't get to bring friends. So fucking what? Why can't you guys just enjoy the single player for what it is? You're being super rude about this and the developers are going through an extremely painful time. Just think of all the work they put into it, and you're just shitting all over it with no regard. Seriously how hard is it, for you, to just enjoy it as intended? You just HAD to have another tortanic because some poor dev with no PR experience gave a bit of false info. Well I hope you sleep well at night because your little shitstorm is crashing this game. What if they had a plan to add multiplayer later on, but now it won't happen because it bombed? These guys did an amazing job and if you read their forums you'll see they have a lot of loyalty towards the community. It's a shame you had to ruin such a beautiful thing.

and why did he say you would rarely see anyone, because the universe is so large, right? so two people being in the same exact spot and not being able to see each other seems like something people would be pissed about after being led to believe there was a chance they would be able to see other people.
He was basically saying, yeah sure it's possible but don't expect it. And then you went and expected it. You put all your hype on something that he specifically said you'll rarely, if ever, encounter.
as somebody who is still really excited to play the game, and doesn't have a problem IN ITSELF that it's entirely single player, i still find it extremely distasteful that we may have been entirely led on to think that encountering other players is actually impossible.
because that tantalising idea is important to the overall concept of the game - that every player is a pioneer in their own tiny slice of a vast playspace. this is what was sold to us and if it was fraudulent that takes the fucking piss.

look, it's hard to admit but we as the devs don't know. the universe is so large that we haven't been able to find each other to confirm or deny whether or not there's multiplayer.
Someone discovered a planet. Someone else's game decided to spawn said planet in his game so he could see something that someone else had discovered and named. People thought that this meant that, beyond all odds, they'd spawned in the same general area in a game made up of millions of star systems.
I feel bad for him. He wanted to make a nice singleplayer game but was pressured to advertise it as a multiplayer because a large portion of gamers are subhuman shitters who only care about MP.
The universe is so big that the code for the multiplayer part of the game could be out there somewhere
