It is a PS3 game. Sony purposely delayed it to build additional interest in a game that probably would not have sold all that well in the first place, and to guarantee sales of the PS4. I legitimately think this game has been 80 or 90 percent done for years now, and it wasn't until they were sure they would release it that they bothered to make the finishing touches.
That said the game graphically and gameplay wise looks good, but it was scummy of Sony not to release it on the piece of shit hardware that I bought it for. Because then they could have released a "remastered" version on the PS4 anyway. Fuck at this point I''m far more excited for Gravity Rush 2 anyway.

Afaik it was because they were stuck in dev hell and when the PS4 came out they were nowhere finished with the game
Sony came in and told them that a game for a console that was coming to its end would be fucking pointless (and making both PS3 and the PS4 game wasn't an option because they're really different systems)
So they scrapped almost everything and started over for PS4.
It doesn't look like crap, but it's definitely a downgrade which is disappointing.
I blame Sony, they clearly fucked Team ICO around with this game. Ueda says in an interview you can watch on youtube he wanted to release this game much earlier, very likely he meant on ps3.

The only thing Sony did to hamper development was delay the game's release in 2011, which led to a bunch of the staff leaving Sony. That, and the PS3 wasn't powerful enough.

Team ICO put a lot of effort into their graphics technology. To the point where the games ran like complete shit just so it could put in fancy effects like DoF
Game was supposed to come out for PS3, it never did, now they want to release it for PS4, but to upgrade it's graphics it means to invest more money and time, and I doubt team ICO has any of them.
The visuals are pretty important for their games, since they insist on minimal dialogue

I dont care about muh photorealistic super hd textured static environments. I know team ico are great at world design and gameplay mechanics. I think there is a kind of beauty to lower res, less detailed graphics.. like an impressionistic painting. Japaneaw studios are really good with color and can make their textures as aesthetic as fuck even back on ps1. Sotc still looks amazing.

visuals arent the same as technically impressive graphics. there are plenty of old games where the art style rather than the fidelity is what makes it look good, and these are the aesthetics that stand the test of time.

Did you miss that I wrote 'functional'? Obviously a spooky game needs to be dark if the point of the game is to not be able to see far for instance. That doesn't mean that the textures need to be extremely high quality.
I also appreciate nice graphics/visuals. I'm just not an underage babby that needs bright beautiful colors to enjoy good gameplay.
It's not like Ico or Shadow the Colossus were even long games. How long does it take to make a game that's almost certainly going to take less than 10 hours to beat?

If it's on a console, unless the art style chosen allows otherwise it's going to have major flaws. You just gotta stop expecting bullshots you see to be reality, just accept that what you see at E3 and other conventions wont reflect the final game and that what you're seeing is being run on a PC to entice you to buy.

Who cares? This is the game I just got out of before coming on Sup Forums, despite having an i7 and an 1080, and it's 10x better than any RPG I've played in the last couple of years.
If you cared about graphics (despite being the second least important part) you'd choose a PC. The Last Guardian looks fine to me, and they should aim for a smoother experience with higher FPS and good gameplay over "m-muh new generation photorealistic skin", but is it ever even gonna get released?
