I thought that was universally accepted has his prime album. It didn't have the radio hits like College Dropout/Late Registration but it feels like the culmination of his depressive 808s and Heartbreak run.

No one hates 808, there are just people with different taste. 808 is more pop and soul than CD or LR, you could call them the opposite of what he made before.

Kanye is a bad lyricist.

It set the table for his later more refined works (MBDTF and Yeezus) but 808s taking in singularly is awkward and unsure of itself. Granted, one can argue it was mirroring his own confusion following the loss of his mother/getting out of a relationship/the beginning of the T. Swift drama. Still didn't make for as a compelling listen. His singing--bathed in autotune or not--is also way weaker than his rapping ability.

No, his newest songs are mostly bad lyrically. But there are a few gems like FML or No more parties in la. Listen to MBDTF if you search for lyrics.

As long as the lyrics aren't horrendously bad and get in the way of the point of the song I don't think it should be bad that he isn't that good with lyrics. Even then he's not bad really, CD,Late Registration and MBDTF are great lyrically.
Really don't understand the bad rep with those two songs, they're fun.

There are similarities but at least a casual game like CoD can get a thread with honest discussion every so often. Albums aside, what do you think will become of music when he retires? I don't know if you are aware of this, but he is the only hiphop artist out there left, who makes his own beats. You can deny that Kanye is a good rapper or musician, but you can't deny that he made his own type of music. There will never be a beat like stronger or power again and there would not have been if it wasn't for this man. Sure kendrick can rap and drake can sing, but the beat is a rappers second voice. Who will continue his legacy? I personally think his son.
