Why does nobody talk about VR anymore? It was supposed to be the future of everything.
Why does nobody talk about VR anymore? It was supposed to be the future of everything
Because we're still living this shitty "Early adopter" era, where the first-gen toys are still expensive as fuck, and the available software products are gimmicky, single-use "experiences" at most. The larger audiences are still hesitant thanks to the costs, uncertainty of their machines being good enuff to run the VR, and lack of interesting games to play on it. You also need more ROOM to play in VR.
I'd say give it another 5-10 years. The tech should be advanced and popular enough by then to be of any use.
PSVR isn't out yet. Once it is, VR will take off.
>VR will take off.
More like it will plummet, because Sony will tell people it's as good as VR can get, they'll believe them and than be disappointed.
People forgot there's actually no games for the VR scene besides little test titles at 10 - 15 a pop.
Wait until valve maybe comes out with their second generation of VR headsets and launches half life 3 as their flagship title. Nobody cares about the other VR shit.
There's still too many problems hindering it. Inability to move and feel is putting me off for a long while
for now it just costs too much and offers too little.
maybe when google will release daydream we will have a larger userbase and more VR apps/games will be developed...
as long as you need a 600-700$ toy + a 1000$ computer just to run job simulator or something it's no wonder nobody is buying them
So I assume you also do not play games on a monitor as well. I mean you cannot move and feel using a monitor either.
VR=HMD(Head Mounted Display)
Monitor=Desktop Display.
It is funny. I just do not see how having the display be 3d and 'immersive' changes someones ability to play a game.
You guys really are funny. Not a one of you owns either devices currently out.
They don't call it a head mounted display though. They call it VR, and until it actually is full Virtual Reality, I'm not interested.
>It was supposed to be the future of everything
Not even remotely.
Whenever new display tech comes out the manufacturers tout it as the new standard but that's never really the case.
VR has applications in engineering, manufacturing, and porn. That's about it. Outside of those fields it's a totally unnecessary and ineffective gimmick.
>Why
Because it's
>too early and expensive
>100% a gimmick right now
neets here have no money
I fucking hate this line, the future. The future is here! Fuck that slogan and anyone who uses it! I fell for the gimmick hard, that slogan is hyped as fuck.
Did anyone get an archive of
quora.com
yet? I hear they sued his ass for defamation when he was only saying the truth.
>That one autistic child who was expecting VR to come out and to be some sort of automatic switch of mass hysteria with everyone and their mom going out to buy one and having a complete 100% day one adoption.
Exactly. I own all 3 current devices. Shit is amazing and plenty of content out there for it with more on the way. Should try DCS, pretty amazing dogfighting in VR. Not a gimmick at all.
I just don't think they gear content for the teen autist bedroom/basement dweller with 0 income and a waifu pillow they mate with. The type of games they generally like are pretty shitty any ways.
Because nothing new has come out for it yet.
...
>Fuck that slogan
Remember when the Future was here in the 60s, the 70s, the 80s, the 90s the, etc.
When Sup Forums thinks of VR, this is what they only think about pretty much exclusively.
I think the big hindrance right now, is that stuff like the Vive has been advertised so much as the 'right' way to do VR, that devs feel it has to be that way or none at all.
I played plenty of titles with the DK2 that only used the headset with regular controls. Granted, I knew I was seated with a controller and would be more immersed walking around with controllers, but I still had a good sense of Presence⢠looking around from my chair with a headset.
So long as the engine supports stereoscopic rendering, it wouldn't be hard for most games to support seated VR. Best we can hope is that devs talk to people from VorpX for better support.
Is the age of the poorfag coming to an end?
>piratebay+kat is kill
>expensive VR is the future
>denuvo
protect your waifu!!!
Because this is Sup Forums, dumbass.
This place is full of poorfag NEETs who have never laid their hands on a VR headset.
I have had around 12-15 people try out VR, both men and women, some gaming background, some not at all.
Not a one got sick, felt odd. They were just amazed. Or at worst, scared, depending on what I was showing them.
I knew a weak bitch that got car sick too. These aren't the people that should have an influence on a market. The issue is them individually, not the product.
You
I laid my hands on your mom last night faggot
Probably the same reason why they ditched the whole motion control gimmick like the Kinect or PSMove
this looks fucking stupid
Fuck you.
no games, just tech demos and gimmicks
VR can't succeed until AAA devs make many full fledged 12+ hour games that can actually be considered games. not less than one hour of content akimbo gun shooter #57b
>piratebay is kill
The fuck you talking about? I just downloaded Arma 1 and ghost recon from there
A 12+ hour game with a monitor strapped to your head doesn't sound like it would be fun.
My mom doesn't have a VR headset either so my point still stands.
don't do it all in one sitting
>12 hour game.
Way too long for room scale activities dude. On rails and Brookhaven experiment type wave survival is good enough, use VorpX for real games
Don't talk to me, you're on some kind of list now. Expect a letter from your ISP telling you to knock it off.
>Why does nobody (Sup Forums) talk about VR anymore?
Because a VR headset can't be pirated, therefor "sour grapes".
Shit is cool especially room scale, but most of the people here can't afford it.
i'm thinking about vr that doesn't use the gimmick of walking around your limited space room, there's nothing wrong with sitting down and using a controller or keyboard and mouse for movement
Fair point.
Besides if anyone is gonna make a long game with VR it's either gonna be Sony that picks it up or Valve.
And with it will come the death of gaming when people can't afford anything anymore.
Why can't it just happen soon
VORPX
And then withdrew them quickly out of fear of the unknown right?
IT ALL CAME TUMBLING DOWN a long ago OP
Everyone expected Facebook to ruin it entirely and they did.
Not to say Oculus would be better off without them righ now - but the Facebook deal did exactly what we all expected it to do.
Try and force VR into the mainstream straight away - all this while mining your everything and jewing the shit out of you.
Oculush as failed to deliver on any of their promises but succeeded on all fronts as far as "what bad things Facebook means for VR".
It'll be a time to give a shit about VR at the Vive 3.0 or something.
vr has no gaems
Last night I had a dream that I was setting up my brand new Vive, and then had a dream panic attack when my dream self remembered that it costs 800 fucking dream dollars and went to my dream computer to check my dream bank account balance over the dream internet and saw that I only had a hundred dream bucks left. Then I woke up and was disappointed I haven't been able to try one out yet.
Price really needs to come down
>South America
>a letter from your ISP telling you to knock it off
PFFFFFFFFF
No worries m8
>I just do not see how having the display be 3d and 'immersive' changes someones ability to play a game
A regular monitor won't give you motion sickness.
Even cheaper it would be an expensive disappointment.
As it is the only thing I could see myself playing "long term" is around 2~ hours of E:D weekly.
Nothing more, just shooting some shit in an asteroid field.
Everything else is a one-trick pony that you get tired of instantly or fast.
To me it's the same issue I had with the Wii when it came out. A majority of "games" available might as well be considered tech demos. Most developers are just playing it safe with interactive experiences where you just watch or occasionally point to teleport. There are no games that immediately make me go, "Fuck yeah, that's something I want to play."
Add to it the inability to actually move in most games, a gigantic awkward headset with tons of cords, specific room requirements, and a high price. Like most people are saying it is probably going to be great in a couple years. After a while we'll get slimmer version, sensors for walking, more exclusives and big name games, and more gameplay than simply being able to move the camera with your face. But for now it just feels like a gimmick. An experience which is probably amazing, but for about an hour or two. Then you realize the games are shallow, have very few mechanics, and the capability of VR is limited to camera movement.
So you think its just a 3d monitor on your face and never tried it, huh
The poor(avg. Sup Forums kid) will probably have to wait until gen 2 gets released, then us gen 1 owners will sell old hardware for a loss as we adopt the new gen of the tech.
Pretty much the same as done with GPU's or any other HW that is not priced for children.
It really is funny that here, people cannot say, 'looks cool, I just can't afford it' Like a reasonable person would do. Here they say, 'I cannot afford it and it's a meme because of that fact'
...only here man.
When Rift was just a baby kickstarter with a $200-300 product that was basically a 3d screen that tracks your head motions while staying in your field of view, it sounded great. I play more flying/racing/space games than anything else. Now it's finally here and it's $600 at least.
I think its funny that someone who paid for it cannot admit that "looks cool, but way too expensive for what it is right now" is the sanest way of looking at it even if you do have the money in your bank account.
Wow its almost like everyone is trying to prove their choice is the right one. I'm sure that only happens here.
Well if you are die-hard simulator fan then it might be worth it.
I bought the DK2 and have already sold it, and those games already work well enough, theres also quite a few of them and pretty much the only genre to be guaranteed to take advantage of the thing in the future.
With that said the die-hard sim fans usually spent 4x this on their existing setup already.
And VR doesn't for most people either..or if so, it passes quickly and you are fine.
You know a percentage of people get sick in cars and boats and planes too. Does not mean that those are the ones to gauge things by.
I actually own a Vive, a Rift and a GearVR.
I probably have more VR time than anyone on this board unless they are a dev
Disconnecting movement from perceived movement is an issue for your brain user.
You can ignore it, power through it, but your brain will literally keep trying to fix that fucking issue and in turn drain and fuck you.
I'm very resilient to all of this and the DK2 still knocked me around if I used it for hour+.
How would I believe you after you just said something so stupid about it.
So tired of poorfags who haven't experienced the majesty of staring out into a vast living world rendered at an incredible, breathtaking, marvellous 60% less than 1080p per eye...
I want it just not ready to dump a grand on a new GPU and Vive headset.
Hopefully it gets support and a good library by the time I invest. 1-2 years.
I just got a Oculus from my dad since he got a spare one,
Mind recommend some funny shit for it?
Do you actually think you have some special power to resist vr movement
Not at all man. It is not too expensive if you actually have a use for it and that use is of equal value to you as the money it costs.
Tell me, you have any Anime items? Figurines? Pillows? Posters?
Yeah, that shit, is stupidly overpriced and useless and has no use or value..
How many here do you think that comment sends into a REEEEEEEE fit?
I bet quite a few..
It is all about the value system you prescribe too.
We both know Sup Forums's now don't we?
looks like shit
So you are asking for a time stamp pic for proof I take it huh?
Because there hasn't been any console VR an consoles are the REAL gaming platform
Not sure about funny but Chronos is a really really good game.
Funny shit? Not too aware of any funny type shit for it. I do a ton sims. Try DCS World, it is free on Steam for the base install. Check out what it is like to fly. You feel like you are in a real plane. That alone made the cost worth it to me. Lunar lander is very cool. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will show you exactly what it would be like to have a traditional FPS type came with traditional movement controls is like in VR..none of that teleportation shit. I could do any AAA title like that with no issues. Sure, takes a few minutes to get acclimated. But most things do anyways.
>tfw you're a poorfag and will never play truck simulator with a VR head set
Maybe if Elite Dangerous was more popular. A bunch of people use VR headsets for the game because it improves the experience, but the game itself is kind of a flop.
Piss off, reddit
Cause thats just it.
Theres nothing to shitpost about.
hah yah right . it would be nice but I have other things to do in life , one of witch is here ........ in vr. also fucking the real harlly in vr atm , not that new hooker they got off the street.
It is the future, its just too expensive for the average basement dwelling Sup Forumsirgin.
Not just them, it's too expensive for the average household as well. You could buy a console, peripherals, and a ton of games for the price of the headset alone.
t. basement dwelling Sup Forumsirgin
I'd love a Vive but I don't trust my floorboards if I start jumping around on them.
>You will never carry your waifu in your ghost hands
>You will never slide to side like a baller to avoid projectiles
>Your waifu will never snap her neck back to praise your smooth moves.
I want more 'Caprica' and less facebook. Until I see the internet become an actual virtual enviroment in which I can explore via hmd. i don't really care about the tech. Enjoyed my dev kit awhile back but ultimately got bored with it fairly quickly.
Because based Sony hasn't released their model yet.
There are gonna be PC tears for months. Already some fat fingered faggot is ready to fire back about motion controls and cameras. Go ahead lardo. Nothing your pale sock full of cottage cheese looking ass can say changes fact.
Sony will dominate the VR market for years to come just like Clinton will win the election. Sup Forums is going to implode this fall and I can't wait.
But my room is upstairs mate, its the best place for vr in my house because we have like 3 window AC units up here.
It's the basement of your heart.
It may be but its where I get to play my vive so its still the shit.
I wish I could demo it to some of you faggots so you'll stop shitposting about it, I did when my friend demoed his to me.
haha..I do not spend my time on reddit, have no account on reddit..so why the fuck would I go there?
it's more expensive than the average smart tv or most PCs, no one is going to waste shekels on that when it doesn't even have any games.
>just like Clinton will win the election.
if clinton loses will it mean Sony's VR will flop like the rest?
The technology really isn't there yet. The headsets are expensive, PCs will need to upgrade processors and GPUs for it, adding to that cost, and ultimately there's nothing to do on it other than a few (admittedly cool) tech demos. and honestly, the graphics look like shit. Because of how VR works, the graphical fidelity takes a hit and is 360 tier, so there's a bit of a disconnect there.
We definitely need those early adopters to show the medium is viable, but it's a lot like motion control where it's easy to get caught in a "just do some casual shit" pitfall
You can't pirate it, that means you can't shitpost about it with actual facts and evidence
>that means you can't shitpost about it with actual facts and evidence
Well you can but you'd just be called a shrill and ignored as people repeat the same bullshit 3 post below yours.
Everybody with good VR gear is too busy playing with it to shitpost online.
And yeah, poorfags won't buy anything until it's $5 on a steam sale and since you can buy a Vive that way, they complain about how awful VR is.
>no games
Fine ill give you that, the game library is mildly sparse, but with fallout 4, doom, and a few of the vr exclusives being worked on by their actual developers and not being outsourced. Plus payday 2 vr is inevitable with starbreeze sucking off vr.
I'm not worried at all about the games right now, desu.
Sony will save VR
VORPX plugin and garrys mod for virtual autism simulator
Market saturation. Overpricing. Anti competitive practices.
VR is the epitome of everything that's fucked with gaming. They took a noble idea and corporate practices fucked it up beyond repair
I am literally shitposting right now from my vive. Currently chilling in euro truck driver, anyone else /comfy/?
it still is the future
the far future
>pig gross 3d people
>waifus
lmao. Keep dreaming sonycuck.
>Market saturation
Are you fucking retarded? Do you seriously think 3-4 vr headset manufacurers is market saturation? It's called competition you fucking underage b&.
>Overpricing
True
>Anti competitive practices
Oculus is the only company doing this, valve and razer are both being fantastic with their technology and sharing a ton.
>VR is the epitome of everything that's fucked with gaming
Nope, you just want to spout hyperbole because you're a bitter cuck.
>They took a noble idea and corporate practices fucked it up beyond repair
Oculus is the only company that has done this.
>I'd say give it another 5-10 years. The tech should be advanced and popular enough by then to be of any use.
That's what's been said for 20 years.
