Went to an arcade last week

>Went to an arcade last week
>Decide to play a driving game with someone there
>He picks manual transmission
Who the hell picks manual in real life, let alone in a video game? It's literally artificial difficulty. Why are there people who play MANUAL?

>How to spot an ameritard

Also the top speed is higher in most games that offer a manual/automatic switch.

>smartass thinks hes good
>lets his automatic transmission do all the work

get outta Sup Forums kid

>Plays game
>Woah son, there is too much gameplay in this game, im going to remove some gameplay

>Difficult controls
>gameplay

yes user, we call that a skill curve

>difficult
You don't know anything do you?

Mfw saw an F-Zero AX cabinet yesterday

I know how to drive automatic.

>americans LITERALLY don't know how to drive manual

>americans LITERALLY don't know the benefits of driving manual

P O T T E R Y

t. ahmed

i literally bought a jap import lancer in america to drive a manual and in the right side so i can drive different from my amerifat friends

i admit it was hard as fuck but the payoff is amazing

pussy

>he believed the manual transition meme

It'seems been proven time and time again that the benefits of driving stick are bullshit.

Better on your engine? A lie.

Saves gas? Also a lie.

Is it fun? Sure.

>lel dumb American

I'm German

it was all by choice.

so i can drive something different and so no one can steal my car

>Manual fags

Now I know how Sup Forums feels about Archfags

Easy American, don't take it personally, nobody wants to be shot.

>not driving a manual
>being a filthy casual who wants inferior performance [on 99% of cars]

I agree. I'm American and have only bought manual cars. Gas difference is negligible. Engine life depends if you're a clutch fucker and over rev that shit. Definitely more fun to drive just not in traffic.

>willingly giving up control for more ease of use

the american lifestyle in a nutshell

>not being an auto enthusiast
>not knowing the joy of driving
>cars are just for A to B travel

Translate your post into German to prove it. Make it sound muttersprachlerisch.

Why are European hours so awful? Is it because of their inferiority complex?

This is a trick, germanon, don't do it, you can be banned.

>America hours
>good
Yeha if you want le ebin shitposting. European kids are atleast shit enough at english so that they won't be here until 10. American kids are here already by 7.

>The joy of driving
No

>Cars are just for A to B travel
Yes

Can't wait for autonomous cars :^)

Every arcade racer ever gives you a higher top speed just for the trade-off that you have to flip a knob every now and then.

you mean
>make it sound like hitler

>cars are just for A to Boston travel

People who don't believe this are responsible for tens of thousands of deaths every year. Fuck you and fuck people like you.

>so no one can steal my car
>amerifats cant drive manual its secure
kek

Going from a manual to an automatic is weird and annoying, there have been many times where you want to change gears but the car disagrees, genuinely the only road rage I've ever had was at an automatic car that wouldn't change gears at the right time (for me). I don't think I'll ever get used to an automatic, and besides manual just feels better.

in most arcade racing games playing manual gives you an advantage though?

Lucky bastard.

>they don't drifto
automatic can't drift properly, manual is obviously the proper choice

Yes, obviously. I can't think of any game outside of the maybe the very first Ridge Racer where Automatic Transmissions are faster or better than a Manual.

>drifting
Outside of animu, it's literally garbage for anything except fast recovery in rally, and even then you'd be better off driving correctly.

>Who the hell picks manual in real life, let alone in a video game?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine_braking

slightly related question: if you get your driving license in the US while doing the test in a car with automatic transmission, are you allowed to drive manual ones?

This is now an arcade game thread

>Almost one-credit this game
>End up missing the death star trench shot
>Entire game is over

yup

Yes, We don't have a distinction between transmissions on the license test. I took the test in an automatic despite never owning an auto.

Manuals have an advantage over automatics.

Why would you gimp yourself?

Yes.

Daytona USA was my arcade game of choice when I was a kid because my parents didn't want me to get into Fighting Games because of the violence.

No wonder americans find manual hard.

I hope not.

Unitedstations everybody

Your inability to learn a simpler mechanism isn't a reason for manual being better.

I've known a couple car thieves. They all knew how to drive stick, quite terribly. Self taught, and they didn't fuck up their own cars...

They pick manual because it is fun and requires a certain level of intelligence.

>tfw perfect hero starts kicking in

lmao manual isn't difficult.

if you seriously can't drive stick and don't own a vehicle with a stick in 2016 kys.

Daytona USA is fucking great and holds up to this day.
Especially with that music.

Don't you have a toast sandwich to eat?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toast_sandwich

You just exposed yourself user
Manual is the main mode to pick because in every arcade racer it's the fastest and drifting is key for the sharp turns

>and so no one can steal my car

what the fuck I am reading

>tfw get cool vibrations
youtube.com/watch?v=B6NOMaotpDw

Yeah.

I also recall staying at the Luxor in Las Vegas as a kid and running... I think it was Indy 500? But it was in Pic Related with 7 other players.

House of the Dead collection with all games including typing of the dead never ever.

most Sup Forumseddit posters are busriders and are too stupid/poor to actually buy and drive a car

implying I'm British

Most just never bother to learn and then get wicked defensive about it when confronted.

i remember that there was one in brighton,
but it was nearly 10 years ago

The idea is that since Manual Transmissions are becoming scarcer, less people know how to drive stick so if a car thief tries to jack user's ride, he wouldn't know how to deal with shifting gears?

Retarded logic, but whatever.

>TFW you meet some of your best friends racing on pic related

Here's a few benefits, it's not gigantic but it's there:

-I can upshift to a higher gear quicker (as in i will realize when i'm able to upshift quicker than an automatic's system will) which is technically more fuel efficient

-I can skip gears if i'm accelerating fast enough, also more fuel efficient

-downshifting allows you to break faster than a normal automatic, but i never did it personally

>he doesn't want to have fun while driving
top pleb

>but i never did it personally
>not perfect heel-toeing every stop sign

>Go an arcade
>Only new game in years is a mobile game on a big screen
Owner seems to have fun with it at least

Faggot who doesn't know jack shit about cars here.
What's the difference between manual and auto, especially for Daytona USA?

In Daytona your top speed is higher with manual, but you need to switch gears.

I bet you have a FWD car you loser.

oh and i throw my car into neutral when going down hills all the time while in manual, further saving more gas (technically you can do this with an automatic too but i fear messing up the transmission

i was lazy, i'd just throw it into neutral and hit the brake like a normie when I needed to (or just hold the clutch and brake at the same time if it was an emergency break.)

manual lets you shift gears, automatic shifts gears for you

How does one benefit from shifting gears?

different play style, more fun probably

also the higher top speed is what they were talking about

Very few of those were made and I think Indianapolis, IN has the last working versions of that game.

>TFW you're cruising some small, shitty little mall in the middle of nowhere, CA
>TFW there's a tiny arcade with Pic Related, 4 cabs linked up and in perfect working order

In Daytona USA you have a higher top speed with Manual, but it's easier to control your speed while drifting through corners because you can select which gear your car's in.

Automatic makes the game somewhat easier, but harder at the same time because you have to be more precise where and when you start to drift because the game will up or downshift for you.

Just play the game and you'll get a feel for it.

a modern fuel injected engine will shut off the injectors when you're engine braking with a manual. get good kid.
you're using more fuel in neutral.

>the joy of driving
Okay, I get the "joy" of driving on the open road with no cars around.

But this never happens. There will always be traffic. There will always be other cars around who could cause an accident with you at any second. Whether your are going 70+ mph on the highway, or stop-and-start city driving, there are just so many other little metal boxes around that could hit your little metal box and kill you. It's not fun to me, it's rather stressful. I don't get how people find it fun.

compred to the speed on automatic you can give it better reaction timing to switch gears and faster speed if you control it.

in short, your faster than the computers ignition speed

I don't know if I'm being rused there

Are you autistic? Only women and retards are afraid of driving.

>>I'm German

And how does that make you not dumb?

Manual Transmissions are more prevalent in "Performance" cars nowadays, but arguably Automatics or at least paddle-shift autos are the way to go for saving fuel.

i only drove manual for about 2 years, but that's nice to know

does engine breaking simply entail downshifting while holding the break?

And Norwegians. I read somewhere that they're banning all cars in that country by 2025.

>He doesn't live near a Round 1
It's literally D&B for weebs

>TFW driving a Ford Transit with shitty winter tires
>Enter roundabout with coating of ice
>Can't turn normally or I'm of the road
>Deja Vu myself out safely
Feels good man.

Same thing in frozen t-crossing, damn thing didn't want to turn like a car, so I did it like it wanted.
Also women hate it when I do it. So I do it every time.

interesting. where i'm from you would have to do another test i think. that's why everyone is still doing the manual one because it just lets you drive both (and manual cars are still much more common).

muh dick

I didn't say I was afraid, only that I find it stressful.

Everyone knows how to drive automatic.

Do you also find talking to people and bright lights stressful?

>in full auto car playing candy crush and watching harry potter
>get my head shaved off by a semi because the car was "self correcting" into oncoming traffic

HAHAHAHAHA have you ever play Daytona? only casuals and retards pick automatic.

What's bad about FWD?

You coast with the transmission in gear and your foot off the accelerator. Operating the spinny and thrusty bits inside your engine requires energy, and since you're not giving the engine any fuel that would normally provide the energy, the engine saps power from the drive wheels instead and slows you down. Physics!

jesus fucking christ, the fucking game says THIS BIG that the car runs faster in manual, and this happens in EVERY racer

I have never drive an automatic car, but isn't the point that the car automatcally changes gears for you? That seems retarded and unproductive as fuck and wastful as well. What is the usual revolutios when an automatic car change gears? 2000 RPM / 3000 RPM?

They're banning it because they'll use jetpacks or something like that.
They found oil in their snowhuts and went full "We're rich not only with natural resources but also morally"

Stupid arrogant fuckers

>american and chinese coorporations are raping this earth we are saving and loving it

>Who the hell picks manual in real life
Say that on /o/ you'd get your ass laughed out of there. Manual's have less parasitic losses through the drive train and you get more control overall. If you were to dyno test two of the exact same car with one having an automatic and one having a manual the manual would come out with higher wheel horsepower. Manuals also have better gas mileage.

This is one upside I remember Daytona USA having this.

I can't play sim racing games at all on automatic because most games just shift when they feel like it and you can't hold the optimal rpm range around turns and such or they shift too early on straightaways.
