Why do people unironically play handheld games and turn-based JRPGs?
I mean they are so such dull, menial, braindead bottom of the barrel trash and are a baby step above mobile shit. I just don't get it.

>Why do people unironically play handheld games
Because a lot of them are great and don't exist in other platforms.
>and turn-based JRPGs?
I'm not a big fan of the genre but I can't imagine a game like Persona 3 be half as enjoyable as it was in other genres. One of the things with this kind of JRPGs is that you rely most of the time in your party members, so, with time, you grow attached to them which can create great moments of empathy later on in the adventure.
>braindead bottom of the barrel trash and are a baby step above mobile shit
Well ok big boy, next time try not to be so close minded, you are missing a lot of great games.
I've avoided good games because of how they look and played mediocre ones (and had a blast with them) because i enjoyed what i was looking at
do you even know Persona user?
but what games do YOU PLAY
I bet it's also some dull braindead ass garbage
You can't even tell us what you're into playing, because you KNOW it will get torn apart in discussion instantly
>handheld games
>turn-based JRPGs
>mobile shit
>same thing
Confirmed never played a handheld.
>using sissel to back up handhelds

Not him but he's right, the gameplay in the vast majority of turn-based JRPGs is awful. It's not a matter of just not having the patience to play turn-based games, it's a matter of there being absolutely no strategy to 90%+ of the fights, making them nothing more than glorified loading screens.
There are usually a few engaging fights that redeem it a little, but most of it's really not much better than something like Cookie Clicker and I have no idea why people put up with it. You should be less close minded yourself when it comes to legitimate criticism of games.
Not sure what their problem is with handheld games though.
You must be 12 to not know this answers.
>Why do people unironically play fighting games and action-based ARPGs?
>I mean they are so such dull, menial, braindead bottom of the barrel trash and are a baby step above mobile shit. I just don't get it.
I would judge you but I feel the same way about FPS. They're basically just point and click adventure games usually (barring stuff like unreal or quake).
Half life 1+2 bioshock and all other shooters like that are fucking snoozefests and I've never been able to sit through one.
>it's a matter of there being absolutely no strategy to 90%+ of the fights, making them nothing more than glorified loading screens.
What turn based games have you played exactly?
>it's a matter of there being absolutely no strategy to 90%+ of the fights, making them nothing more than glorified loading screens.

Oh so what? That's any game. Shooter is the same shit. MMO same shit. Platformers same shit. A bunch of menial uninteresting grind to get to the more interesting part
Anything besides turn-based JRPGs, handheld/mobile games, fighting games (never got into them, and the learning curve is too time consuming to learn), sport games, walking simulators, and RTS.
Again, you're telling us exclusively what you DON'T play
>handheld games
Traveling
> turn-based JRPGs
They usually have really long and intriguing stories (excluding side content) to keep me entertained for hours and the gameplay is slow and comfy, requiring more thought than fast inputs. I mean, not every game has to be fast paced like DMC or Quake and I like a change of pace
>turn-based JRPGs
Name a single good game that is not a turn-based RPG.
A bunch of turn-based JRPGs. Other turn-based games are fine, it's just JRPGs that have this problem. Even Japanese strategy and action RPGs seem OK, just not the Wizardry/DQ clones that make up most of the genre.
Witcher 3
Can you name a few that you have played?
Portuguese girls are best girls
I'm 31, I've owned a DS and a PSP since launch and I've only started playing jrpg shit on portables after I turned 30. Before that I only ever played console jrpg, then I suddenly stopped and now I only play on portables. The only games I've beaten over the past six months are breath of fire 3, lunar remake and grandia. If it wasn't for PSP I wouldn't play at all.
Meh
Because some of them are good, faggot.
Stay away from my my handheld games and keep playing AAA console exclusives
The majority (which isn't true)=/=all turn based JRPGs. Take EO for example, a game where you have to use statuses, buffs and debuffs to just survive normal random encounters. You cannot shit on an entire genre just because there are some rotten apples in it.
he said a good game
Baldur's Gate 2
Well I'm not going to post my PSN ID or Steam.
So instead I'll just post my favorite games of the last few years.
The Evil Within
Town of Salem
Dark Souls 3
XCOM and XCOM2
Spelunky
Rainbow Six Siege
Geometry Wars 3
N++
Resogun
Max Payne 3
Trackmania Turbo
Ratchet and Clank
Pillars of Eternity
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir
Divinity Original Sin

[People who play RPGs are] “depressed gamers who like to sit alone in their dark rooms and play slow games.”
– Hiroshi Yamauchi in a 1999 interview
Just because a game requires 0 reaction time doesn't mean it's bad. It's more about managing your items, hp, and mp across an entire dungeon so you can get through it while still having enough resources to beat the boss at the end. But yeah, I agree that most jrpgs are terrible at balancing how much grinding you need to do and end up repetitive.
So, OP sits there with his high school friends playing Madden and eating cheetos
XCOM is on handheld and mobile user.
he is right
>Piilars of Eternity
In general, the first toy seems very interesting. But in the future quickly tired of the lack of diversity. I can not advise to play it, but the taste and color of comrades there. Who will explain why.
1. First and foremost, probably minus in the game - the standard plot. To describe it, I will not, for those who are interested - Will play will understand what I mean. The storyline does not cling, do not have enough of its disclosure and understandable narrative scheme, which is why the game is lost meaning and the essence of our actions.
2. Graphics. Yes, I do not argue, in the gaming industry to sin zhalvatsya graphics in a computer game, but it's just a nightmare. Guys, even in Serios Sam schedule was better, seriously.
3. The same type of combat system. Oh, this is generally a separate topic. Where have you seen a blunt poking the mouse button? Your gerogy will produce the same attack, no matter where your opponent to what he outfit, its growth, and so on.
4. Gameplay. In general, what can be said about the gameplay ... He is not. And it did not exist. Maps are based on the same scheme, the world is boring and monotonous.
And finally, 5. Artificial Intelligence. Guys, local AI is so stupid that, I'm sorry of course, children 4 years of age are smarter than NPC here.
So, what I say Mogo. Ten criteria.
1. Theme. -
2. Gameplay. -
3. Artificial Intelligence. -
4. World. -
5. Graphics. -
6. Musical arrangement (the only thing that I somehow liked it). +
7. Interest. -
8. playability. -
9. To kill time. +
10. Spend money on something worthwhile. -
Total 2/10...
A lot of games are on handheld and mobile. But there's a distinction between a game designed for handhelds and a game designed for console/PC.
Doesn't make RPGs bad. Actually, they must be really good since they are preventing depressed people to die.
Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth
Corpse Party
Final Fantasy XIII (the good one, I think it's 2)
Chrono Trigger
Oh god that sounds like heaven right now. In a cold, dark room, wrapped in a giant down blanket while I smoke weed and play FF8.
The most recent ones I played were all Megami Tensei games which are usually a little better than most regarding combat, though definitely not the older ones.
KMT1, 2, and SMT 1 and 2 are all autobattle: the game, SMT3 on hard was maybe the only one I've ever played that I thought got it right and was well-balanced enough to make random encounters feel challenging and not a pointless chore, SJ has good boss fights but random encounters pose no threat whatsoever and are basically EXP/Macca vending machines. Why make the player even bother with them?
In SMTIV everyone seemed pretty fragile so enemies could take you by surprise every now and again if they got a preemptive strike, but it seemed like my chances of success depended more on my ability to dodge enemies on the overworld map rather than any RPG elements, which seems wrong.
I played a bunch of FF and DQ games ages ago too, don't remember much about them, but I recall thinking SMT required more strategy.
Jesus christ
There is literally nothing more braindead and bottom of the barrel than crying about gameplay. Turn-based RPGs are for people who can appreciate a good story and enjoy something that is actually a work of art, and not just a game.
Have fun with your brainless button mashing bullshit.
This may be a surprise to you, but people can enjoy things that you don't like.
>hates snoozefests
>post POE, Dork Souls nu-XCUM and New Vegas
>mfw I have spent many days doing exactly that
>and there will be many more
A lot of games designed for handheld are pretty much the same as console and PC games. Stop being retarded.
What's the problem? The first two were recommended to me by fellow Sup Forums posters.
I can play turn based rpg's because i'm not a mental defective like most people who are incapable playing any game that isnt an action game.
>Corpse Party
>JRPG
Why do people unironically play console games and action-based JRPGs?
I mean they are so such dull, menial, braindead bottom of the barrel trash and are a baby step above mobile shit. I just don't get it.
Meant for
I'm going to start doing that tomorrow. Pick up a quarter, some vodka, and play FF8 in a cold dark room.
