its a very solid game, i prefer it to alot of 2d nintendo titles.
Bosses are done well
The torrent should still work? I don't think those can be taken down.
Well duh, of course it did. Officially, anyway. Someone might leak it or whatever. Hope so.

gah me too. I saw the announcement and said "Oh cool, a linux port coming soon, cant wait!" then immediately read the news of the DMCA.
I hope the linux version leaks or some shit. chances are though its just gone forever

in case you'd like to checksum whatever you download for safety, here are MD5 and SHA-1 sums of the originals:

Best Metroid game in over a decade. Though the bar is really low, there!
What did he mean by this?
12 years of work, down the drain.
why do people even try to create anymore
>Nintendo in charge of supporting its franchises
Hey. let's force Blast Ball upon people instead.
If people would learn to stop trying to create with shit that doesn't belong to them, we wouldn't have this problem.
How is it down the drain if it's been released and is now all over the internet?
Should have released open source. Then it would get modded and ported everywhere.
Well, there's still hope some autists decide to work on it.
Did the creator ever make any money off this project? I don't understand why Nintendo would shut down something that was non-profit
because muh intellectual property's integrity
Racist Mario is fine though
companies tend to do it only when they decide something is big enough to damage their sales
the whole "integrity" thing is a meme
The game will be remembered as one of the best Metroid games ever made and a must-play for any self-proclaimed Metroid fan. It will never fade to obscurity or be unavailable.
Because they're releasing Federation Force.
What fucking sales does this damage? They haven't released a 2D Metroid since fucking 2004.
>Nintendo doesn't even acknowledge Metroid's anniversary
>Fans release a fangame of a genre they haven't touched in 12 fucking years to celebrate it instead
>lol let's shut it down without ever bothering to do anything worthwhile with our franchise, we wouldn't want this shit to spark interest in the series, right?
Meanwhile the Japanese doujin game scene even sells their fangames and no one gives a single fuck about it.
Because it reminds them of what they can't do anymore.
Also because it completely overshadowed the Federation Force release which is in a week or so
Thanks, Doc
>down the drain
But it was a resounding success. Not even the developer is mad, he is stoked.
He is stressing over the fact that AMD cards can fuck up the Gravity Suit and stuff if you're unlucky, which messes up the game. And is working on solving it and a couple of other small bugs. But Nintendo striking down the download links? Both expected, and irrelevant at this point.
People loved the game and it's all over the internet at this point.
It's not AMD cards, they somehow fuck up direct x. Reinstall it and the suit should be visible.
idk man
my best guess is that original metroid 2 on gameboy being available for purchase on 3ds might have something to do with it, maybe the fact that we're talking about a remake too
Wouldn't the remake generate more interest for the original, though? Unless they were planning a remake of 2 in the first place, of course.
>yfw there's an official M2 remake and it's worse than the fangame
Or maybe it's because an argentinian with the help of few others made a pretty good remake and better metroid game without payment in over 10 years than Nintendo did with their experience, money and other advantages.
The calls started coming in about half a day after it went up.
...then again, not like it's actually stopping the game from being shared.
>they somehow fuck up direct x.
Wait what? The game that is? How is that even possible?
I didn't have any troubles with the game though and the suit was fine.
Stop trying to use logic and reason, top brass don't think that way. They're usually some of the most detached from reality people on the planet.
Relax, it can always be rehosted/reuploaded
It's the internet, it's nearly impossible to erase something for good, especially when it's something like this
>Wouldn't the remake generate more interest for the original, though?
With responses like this all over the internet? Probably not.
And yes it's from tumblr. Like I give a fuck. It was linked in the comments on the official AM2R blog.
Actually they arent. Their AI is very unfair, pushing you in corners that are impossible get out of or launching you out of the room because you got stunlocked. Fuck that
maybe they thought it was so good people wouldn't feel inclined to play (buy) the original after trying it and that's why they decided to take this one down
we can only guess, but at least they did it after the game was finished so there's that
Did you try gitting gud?
So how is La Mulana 2 coming along? Can't read backer-only blogs.
desu Metroid 2 doesn't feel worse when I play it after AM2R since the latter feels much more like a modern Metroid while M2 has always felt like a outcast in its linear but non-handheld gameplay. In that sense I still do like it more than titles like Fusion.
I have a AMD card and didn't have any problem with the Gravity Suit
>tumblr "from their own blog"
>Wrong opinions
>Awful artstyle
>Metroid as a whole
Is this a shitpost?
Are you serious ? Bosses gives you shit ton of health drops and missiles restock. They are piss easy.
Metroid 2 is comfy as fuck if you play it on original hardware. The main issues for me are that you really need to have a good sense of direction and you need to commit to a playthrough, because it's really easy to forget what you were doing of you put it down for a week and the map does some nonsensical things if you try to draw it out.
Even so if you pay attention it's kind of like Super Metroid in that it subtly guides you as you play.
Judging by the description, I think it was directed at the Metroids, which drop jack shit.
Wait, it added non-Metroid bosses? Like what?
The flying metroid types can be annoying, but really it's just 5 to 10 missiles, you can easily crouch in the corner and just spam the shoot button until they die. They do next to no damage and it get even easier when you get the supers.
For the Omega Metroid and whatever comes in between, just learn the pattern and dodge their shit. There's no unfairness to these ones, they are pretty predictable and you just have to not miss their weak spots.
help
You know the procedure
Did you try playing further
>down the drain
The fuck are you on about
Is his source code gone? No.
Are all the downloads gone? People are putting new ones up all the time so no.
Did he get a C&D? No.
Is he gonna stop working on it? Not yet.
So calm your britches.
Go back to the underwater area. You see these bubbley shits? You need the icebeam + 1 missil to kill them.
Near the end of the area, there's a room that can only be accessed by the elevator-tubes thing, and the path is blocked by the bubble-pillars. If you look close enough you can bomb the ceiling and get past it, and the ice-beam is in the next room.
It's the pre-order DLC, you missed it
You are the reason why cinematic boss battles are a thing
the dev nailed bosses and exploration. easily the best parts of the game.
>yfw nintendo is discussion the guys job contract as we speak but doing it in private
>yfw next week a "new" 2d metroid game is announced
ice beam
it's in the water area, which is where you get the gravity suit too
I should mention that you're missing the gravity suit. So... get back to the underwater area and get the gravity suit in the upper-level of the ship.
Then do what I said about ice beam.
This is why current Nintendo sucks. At least capcom let a fan make a game. What the fuck is wrong with nintendo?
I bet your ass they're going to take down mother 4 as well.
mediafire / 475gszb26bvc / lostmetroid.exe
nigger it's not even 100mb. You can find it anywhere and it's probably legit.
you can't exclusively own an idea unless you don't tell anyone about it. What they are doing is restricting others from using an idea at gunpoint. This is immoral regardless of legality.
if all fangames were this good, nintendo would no longer be relevant as a developer.
we need some high quality 2d mario / zelda fangames next.
I'm not through the game yet but the one instance I would agree with him is the Zeta Metroid you fight with brambles on floor and ceiling sections. The fucking knockback kept comboing me hard into the brambles in already tight space. Beyond that, I got knocked from the left side all the way out of the exit three separate times, meaning I had to return to a save point to heal up and try all over again.
It's certainly not unbeatable by any standards, but frustrating design.
>tfw Capcom allows fan-games
>tfw Sega goes the step further and HIRE guys who made fan-games and romhacks to make an new entrie in their popular series
>tfw Nintendo is a retarded toddler that can't figure out how to make good games and throws a tantrum whenever random guys make a better use of their IP
Meant the right side, not the left.
>one bad boss = all bad
>implying that while these problems exists for Omega/Zeta, they aren't easily avoidable by not being a complete retard
>implying the AI of these bosses aren't predictable and exploitable as fuck so you'd never get these problems after literally 2 or 3 times (and save points are always very close except for the 1st omega)
no this is not good enough for retail release, don't kid yourselves
yes its good and fun, but would need major work before being comparable to the GBA games
the main issues being:
-the fact that most powerups have no real in-game function, and you don't need them for anything except a single progression point, if that
-you just get like 4 of them at once in the second area, again for no clear reason
-the lore is too wonky, SR388 appears to be a space pirate AND chozo weapon development facility? could make sense, but needs more details, especially in relation to creating stronger metroids that appear nowhere else
-long stretches of just running from zone x to zone y (being a remake of metroid 2 doesn't excuse it)
-actual metroid fights are just boring and tedious, each one would need some unique flavor or reason for occuring, they should be guarding something even if it's not an item
-as a modern game, it would need an actual explanation for the earthquakes/lava flow
I mean I could go on, but this game also tries to be too specific about things that have been intentionally left vague or ridiculous, and I'm not sure nintendo is ready to commit on a serious metroid story
it will be released eventually in the remake forum

Nintendo primarily wants you to buy their hardware. A Metroid game on PC isn't going to do that.
Not to defend them shutting it down or anything, but there wasn't a way for them to take advantage of it like Capcom/Sega could.
this. IP laws need to be scrapped, they can't be allowed to do this. Imagine all the fucking awesome games that could exist. Companies would actually try to make good games in franchises not just ride on former fame of titles because they force others not to use those settings so that nobody can make a better game.
>-the fact that most powerups have no real in-game function, and you don't need them for anything except a single progression point, if that
Lie. You haven't played th game
>as a modern game, it would need an actual explanation for the earthquakes/lava flow
LOL
He recently announced that that is going to be stopped by Nintendo as well.
bad enemy placement, not enough enemies, not enough backtracking, not enough setting or worldbuilding
>it got released and it's everywhere
>continued dmca bitching
ffs
this guy thinks killing monsters causing major tectonic shifts requires no explanation, while the 'scan logs' explain the temperature of the enemy's asshole
Literally H O W
Because Nintendo is stupid as fuck for doing it.
>Omegas
>no unfairness
Boy do I love being repeatedly knocked back into the corner by multiple attacks in a row after getting hit out of a jump attempt over their heads, plus being hit at any given moment when jumping over them and a tiny ass hitbox and opportunity window to damage them.
this is an easy one, dont overthink it
As tumblr as this comic is, it still has a point. Metroid 2 was boriing and repetitive. The guy behind AM2R was smart adding in several new bosses, like the flying Dark Torizo, the Tester, Alie-er, "Genesis", chozo robot, sanctuary guardian, and so on.
Why can't Metroid grab it with his arm? (^:
The entrance to that space is not in that section of the room.
You get punished for bad positioning.
>The fact that most powerups have no real in-game function, and you don't need them for anything except a single progression point, if that
What?
Armor upgrade grants you more damage resistance and new area to explore.
Weapon upgrade gives you more damage and neat advantages like shooting through walls or wider beam.
Super missiles dishes out 5 times the damages of a regular one, making the metroid fights not as long and redundant.
Power bombs easily clear an entire area, reveals all the special blocks in the zone, and is needed to access certain area.
The only "useless" power-up is the spider ball. and THANK GOD for that because in the original metroid, you had to use it every fucking time, and it's long and tedious. I fucking hate it and I'm glade its necessity was reduced in the remake.
>long stretches of just running from zone x to zone y
>Game about exploration
>Complain about exploring
The only boring waling part was near the end. There's no monster, no obstacles, and no powerups to collect. Rest is perfectly fine. There's even shortcuts through the tube-thingy.
>ctual metroid fights are just boring and tedious, each one would need some unique flavor or reason for occuring, they should be guarding something even if it's not an item
Did you miss the point of the game? Your goal is to kill every single living metroid that is left in the universe. They don't need to guard shit because they're hiding from the serial killer that's comming for them you mogoloid.
>as a modern game, it would need an actual explanation for the earthquakes/lava flow
Who gives a fuck?
the nice thing about omegas is that the instant they appear, there's nothing else to see, you just run through some empty areas, kill some more omegas, then kill some regular metroids, then fight the queen
you can just watch a youtube walkthrough to see the final boss, you miss nothing important if you just stop playing the moment you see the first omega
I do like the QM's boss music though
Sorry to ask, but could I get spoonfed a little more? I backtracked to this area even earlier in the game but I never found the gravity suit or ice beam.
Why are you implying I've stopped or only fought one? The ones with small arenas are in the dark bubble area, which are not the first ones to appear.
Already on the queen.

Once you read the end of the room, they give you a pathetic, easly dodgable attack, and then jump back to the middle of the room, when you can stay at a distance and shoot their weak point.
See that nigger jumping? jump too to not get stunned by the shockwave.
Sometimes I wonder how retarded the average gamer is. It takes ONE metroid to learn their pattern and avoid their attacks.
You can break out of their stunlock by pressing jump when you hit the ground.
I sure hope after his dream fangam got completed, he goes on to start his own original Metroidvania IP that he can profit from. He did some cool original areas so I thin he has what it takes.
Boy, I played this game on hard mode the first time through, and I learned every Metroid's pattern after mere seconds. I hate to propagate this meme, but Git gud
do you really not see that real metroid games have lots of applications for each powerup everywhere, (except maybe normal missiles) while am2r just shits power onto you that you don't really need for anything, other than the fact that the areas arbitrarily get harder to compensate
do you not see that narrative and realism matters now?
can you not feel how empty the 'metroid fight rooms' feel compared to everywhere else
the problem is that you're just not very bright, and my problem is that I'm speaking to you
Guess I was too cryptic in my explaination. This wasn't what I was thinking about when I said "Elevator-tube thingey". (Even tho that fit the description pretty well for THOSE too).
You need to go there. It it's blocked by an obstacle, that means you missed a metroid and didn't trigger the earthquake. The ice beam/gravity suit is in the underwater area that comes right a the end of the path I put an arrow to
>do you really not see that real metroid games have lots of applications for each powerup everywhere,
Stopped reading there. Every single powerup is useful and helps with the endgame, maybe except the spiderball.
I think you need to go to the right side
