So I just got the game this week finally.

Would I be correct in assuming there are High rank quests that equate to G rank now that there is no G rank?
Currently going through the village quests right now.

Considering it's a high rank game, village is almost exclusively low rank.

You actually get close to G-Rank tier defenses in this game, so it's actually not really as challenging but the game loves to throw multi-monster quests at you. Hyper monsters with powered up attacks can still fuck you up though since they do so much red damage, supposedly a Deviljho pin attack can eat off 80% of a Blademaster's health but we haven't gotten his relevant hyper event quest yet.

HR6 especially is when you'll notice a lot of multi-monster quests, many hunter arts are locked behind them.

They're not overly difficult, but just rather time-consuming. It also does not help that villager requests in Hub will count for only the player hosting the quest, so that means folks online will likely want you to help with their 3x Hyper Tetsucabra and 3x Blangonga quests

Key tip: keep your shield charged
To do so, when you have you blade charged, while in axe form start your mega discharge(X+A) but pull back on the stick, you'll switch to sns and have your shield charged, time is based on how many phials were there.

I just use Seregios with razor sharp because I'm a faggot and always want white sharpness

Villager requests aren't keys or urgents

Every single villager who wants you to do something in the hub will only give a shit if you host it, and considering there's a fuckload of requests it artificially draws shit out for everybody

This is my only complaint about gen. I wound up just soloing the request chain to unlock wolf's maw III just because it was impossible to find anyone who wanted to do those hunts more than once.

You unlock pretty challenging village quests after clearing all normal village quests

Stop playing with pubs and make a turn room here, or just a room asking for help.

Just a whole bunch of Advanced quests in the 6 star list. All the monsters are high rank though

I mean, I was thinking of never playing offline, but I wanted to try it, I ended up with some 100+ HR that had some weak ass underleveled weapons, they were trying to max out to a Myxo Demolisher, which I use all the time, I beat the shit out of a candy ass Brachydios in like 2 minutes, kids couldn't keep up with me, it was obvious they wouldn't be able to handle a Dragon fight, so I chose one of my favorites, the Zinogre bros, I enjoyed it but it was easy as fuck.

The 2 5 monster marathon quests and double Rajang were the hardest for me

I'm terrified to do the double rajang quest. I barely made it through jho/tigrex/nargacuga
smoke bombs never work out for me I cant stop using gunlance and making it harder on myself

Wrath of Rath was the hardest for me by far. I hate how bouncing as Lance takes a year and a half to recover.

To be fair, they do have reduced HP at least and Rajang is essentially a glass cannon thanks to Weakness Exploit.

I did beat it with gunlance. The hardest part is surviving when the fence is on cooldown. Definitely eat for riser and bring at least one, if not two evasion hunting arts.

Once they are on their own they actually have giant windows during which you can attack them, just always stay close and punish every slam which gets them stuck in the ground and every laser.

The only feather worth a shit is from out of the fry pan

But you need to do all village quests to unlock the last six quests

Hayabusa feather? You get that for Out of the Frying Pan. You get two other, worse feathers for the marathon quests and double rajang. There are also some other rewards like rainbow color

You don't have to do Advanced quests to unlock the crit feather quest, just the regular ones. I'm pretty sure Out of the Fry Pan for the feather itself is all you need from that list. Which can still a hell of a time depending on how well you deal with Deviljho.

Is there some general things someone who is playing Monster Hunter for the first time should be aware of? I just got Generations and I'm just going through the early quests. Should I just grind to get the items I need to make new weapons and armor until I can beat the tougher monsters to advance in rank for now?

Don't worry too much about early armor. It's be replaced as you get into high rank. Just have fun.

Skills take 10 points to activate. If you don't have 10 points in a skill, it's not doing shit.
Flash bombs generally knock flying monsters out of the air if you throw it IN FRONT OF THEM, not at their body
Sonic bombs can stun or at least misdirect monsters that dig underground to attack you
You can make Nibelsnarf eat bombs to stun himself, then fish him out of the ground by putting your weapon away and pressing A near him when he's stuck
If you're hitting a part of a monster where your weapon bounces, you should probably try hitting somewhere else

Always bring Potions/Mega Potions and Whetstones at the bare fucking minimum. You'll figure out the rest of the essentials as you go. I bring at least two pages worth of shit on every quest unless I'm purely gathering a ton of shit.

So lemme get this straight. If I do a villager's request hosted by another player, I can redeem the 50 pts it rewards but not get the checkmark next to the quest? So helping people with hyper requests can grant me the 3000 pts awards for every village but not the "100 requests done/Hardworker's towel"?

You don't get credit unless it's you who posts the quest. It works just like urgents and I'm not sure who thought that this was a good idea.

There are. In 4U the teostra sword and shield was undisputed King of SNS.
I'm not too sure how it competes in Gen. Definitely a solid choice but not as strong as it was. However to make it you need to upgrade it from a worn sword which you only get from mining certain shards

Mizu HBG is pretty good for piercing, no deviation, piercing water and water shot 2
Gammoth Hunting Horn is darn good, it has both Earplugs and Wind Resistance in one song, Element Def/Atk Up and elemental blight resistance.You gotta upgrade it to level three at least but it's not hard.
