There is no way in hell you can rationalize doing stupid pointless side quests instead of immediately finding Shaun. Shaun is an infant. He needs my attention NOW. Putting aside the blatantly obvious plot twist that Shaun is an old man, there is no realistic way that a concerned parent would willingly forgo the opportunity to find what happened to their child. This goes doubly so if you chose the female character. And in the introduction to the game you and your spouse are happily living together and taking care of Shaun so there is no way you can shove that aside and "roleplay/headcanon pretend" that the character you choose to play as is a terrible parent who does not care or that waking up in the post-war era has changed you or any other bullshit you can make up or that you simply don't want to know.
Because of this very narrow fixed narrative and these very reasons i mentioned above you can not roleplay as anything other than the predetermined character brought forth in the introduction to the game.
Julian Young
I don't know, man, i liked roleplaying as the war veteran father that had his child kidnapped.
Ian Reyes
Yeah, it's bullshit. I hope someone makes an alternate start mod so I can just ignore the story make a real character.
Oliver Brooks
then you're not roleplaying because you don't have any real choices.
Angel King
How would that mod even work with all the dialogue that refers to Shaun as your son?
Dylan Powell
Just like every game ever.
Kevin Campbell
You can conveniently walk away from any dialogue referring to your "son".God this game is so shit. I still havent finished it. Being ordered around by a nigger to save all the peasants, endless fetch quests, going area to area to the point that they all blend in. The shitty fucking far harbor expansion, then the MECHANISSSST lackluster ending. (Dungeon was awesome though, did it on an iron man playthrough) All the building bullshit. Fallout 4 isnt even immersive. Fuck crafting. When I did it in NEW VEGAS it felt natural. Then the streamlining. Christ. >this is the most disappointed ive been in a game since the beginning of time.
Alexander Reyes
That was the joke
Julian Gutierrez
...
Anthony Gonzalez
there should be a penalty for walking away mid conversation like instantly losing the trust of that person/faction
Jordan Baker
Is this a fucking quote? Kill me. This is a man who should have worked in finance.
Brayden Evans
Of all the terrible things Bethesda did in 4, I really don't understand complaints about walking away from dialogue mid conversation.
How is it really any different from how 3/NV did it where you could say "goodbye" at any point and come back later?
Michael Hughes
it breaks the immersion for me in 3/NV you couldn't quit any conversation at any time just very many simply walking away is incredibly rude and it should have consequences
Jace Kelly
because in those games you actually said "goodbye". Walking away is not only outright rude but when characters don't react to it properly then conversations are meaningless since it breaks immersion.
Brayden Wilson
Has anyone actually been able to get through this game without gouging out their own eyes? Were there ANY redeeming qualities? Pls help, I at least want to be interested enough to finish it.
Jace Sullivan
I finished it then interacted with some important characters and closed the game and uninstalled it and vowed to never buy a bethesda developed game ever again
Luke Richardson
some of the mechanics of the game were good. for example having your companions speak to other companions whether in close proximity or during a quest which requires the use of a different companion other than the one you currently have.
Nicholas Harris
Curie is cute CUTE!
Jace Lee
I couldn't play it for more than 10 hours and most of that was designing my character.
Dylan Allen
Brad from Lisa.
Tyler Jones
Then you'd be on a constant downward spiral of bad rep since NPCs will wander off on their own.
Henry Stewart
I think it's Skyrim's fault. >urgency due to dragon attack in Helgen >must escape >urgency to tell jarl of attack >must go to Whiterun >urgency to get dragon stone for dragon research >must get stone >urgency to verify report about a dragon attack in some post >get sent there >get told that being summoned by greybeards is urgent >must go to them
The game didn't give the player a break. At least Morrowind gave the player the option to fuck off for a while and get to know the place a bit. The only reason people didn't immediately do the quests was because they knew the NPC will wait for them indefinitely. But taking pacing into account, Skyrim and Fallout 4 failed hard.
William Stewart
then bethesda should become more competent
Ethan Gonzalez
there's no real point to doing side quest in Skyrim either, don't you think a dragon demands your real attention? Why didn't you march right over to Solitude/Windhem and join the military, or leave fot the Throat of the World as soon as you learned to shout? What about Oblivion, where you see the Emperor assassinated right in front of you? Do you think you would just fuck around Cyrodiil after that?
Christopher Clark
The shooting is much better, also it had the best implementation of companions mechanically in any Beth game.
Henry Martinez
and having to find the elder scroll in that big ass underground cave area where you could easily lose countless hours exploring it only to get a glimpse of the past to learn Dragonrend which you don't even need to defeat Alduin. And when you finally face Alduin you have two essential NPCs helping you fight him.
I think Skyrim would have been a really good game if it had been handled by a competent developer and not be an Elder Scrolls game.
But let's get back on topic of Fallout 4.
Caleb Cook
But... Another settlement needed my help
Christian Phillips
It's probably the worst possible premise for a Bethsoft game, at least in their other games you can very easily rationalize ignoring the main quest
>I have to meet some guy in Balmora and deliver him a paper? NAH, I JUST GOT OUT OF PRISON AND AM FREE TO DO WHATEVER I WANT
>The emperor conveniently helped me escape prison, gave me his amulet and managed to get killed in the process? ALL THE MORE REASON FOR ME TO NOT GET INVOLVED AND INSTEAD GO GAMBLE IN THE ARENA
>My dad just left the vault and as a result I also had to leave because the overseer wanted to kill me for poorly written and contrived reasons? I'M NOT GOING TO GO AROUND LOOKING FOR THAT DICKHEAD
>The imperials were about to chop my head off just for illegally crossing the border until a motherfucking dragon swooped in and conveniently helped me escape during the chaos, and now this son of a bitch wants me to go warn the Jarl? I'M NOT GETTING INVOLVED IN THIS, I JUST WANTED TO CROSS THE BORDER
>Nuclear armageddon just happened, the vault-tec people froze me for 200 years, my infant child just got kidnapped and they even murdered my spouse? UHHH, I THINK ANOTHER SETTLEMENT NEEDS MY HELP INSTEAD
Oliver Smith
>Putting aside the blatantly obvious plot twist that Shaun is an old man That was the only surprising thing in that game unless Sup Forums spoiled it for you.
Isaac Kelly
>What about Oblivion, where you see the Emperor assassinated right in front of you? Do you think you would just fuck around Cyrodiil after that?
that doesn't follow the same logic at all
neither does the skyrim one
Your character has no connections so if you're rping as a dick you literally don't need to do any of that shit and can just go join the thieves guild in either, get a house, and lock down some hot argonian pussy
A character with a backround and a voice was a mistake
Parker Robinson
It was obvious to me the moment Toddler mentioned during the E3 demo that the baby's face will be based off of the parents
Aiden Hill
That started with Oblivion actually.
Zachary Foster
When i played oblivion i didn't go get Martin until i was around level 55 or 60, the was no urgency after escaping the dungeon
Same with Skyrim, walked with Rolof or whatever to the guardian stones and then caught the first carriage near whiterun right to Winterhold
Jaxson Davis
>Putting aside the blatantly obvious plot twist that Shaun is an old man
Putting that aside why? Any intelligent person could come to the realization that it might have been a hundred years since you first woke up and saw them take the kid, which would allow you to relax your character a bit from the manic parent you're forcing yourself to play
Nicholas Hughes
The main quest is always the worst part of the game
Fallout 4 just didn't have anything good in it to distract you from it or any meaningful decisions or choices at all really
>do this shit
>a. Ok >b. No*sarcastic >c. Alright >d. sure, can you explain it again?
Npcs were literally quest dispensers who wouldn't take no for an answer and none of them could fucking die
Cameron Cooper
I kinda liked how the power armor works.
Logan Carter
It was taken from a NV mod Bravo Bethesda
Michael Bennett
>proud of having the attention span of a poodle
Isaiah Collins
>Bethesda blatantly "borrowed" ideas from a whole bunch of New Vegas mods, but didn't bring over anything from New Vegas itself, to the point that it's like they're pretending that the game never existed or is just an irrelevant spin-off
WHY IS THIS ALLOWED
Oliver Robinson
It just werks like that
Parker Johnson
(re)playing games with unskippable cutscenes or dialog is infuriating. People who think you shouldn't be able to skip walls of text simply don't replay (mmo)rpg's enough to understand why they are cancer.
Giving people a choice to walk away is perfectly fine.
I definitely think it was an error to make finding your kidnapped baby that miraculously survived 200 years of cryosleep a practical sidequest as a choice by players. That shows the rewards of following the story both from entertainment and items was not up to scratch.
Fallout 3 had the same issue of finding your father, which you could ignore to do sidequests.
Ultimately the problem stems from players being too 'gamey' in the sense that they
>worry about finishing the quest and getting leveled rewards >worried it will force them to make permanent quest choices >worry that they will miss sidequests >worry they aren't equipped enough to do the main quest >worry that finishing the main quest will make them feel like the game is finished and that finishing off the last few side quests is like grinding to 100%
Probably what they should've done is made it mystery that the baby was kidnapped, IE you wake up and see the pod is ripped apart and your wife and child are missing and there's a blood trail and perhaps have some NPC tell you they think they died. Then the main mission drops it as a surprise later on. Feels like that would make more sense. OR, made getting your kid back a very early development, and then set up a long winded preparation for revenge, justifying you building up the wasteland settlements and yourself.

The engine allows for 64bit for once I guess?
I'm more interested in Skyrim Remastered seeing as it's 64bit now too. I just hope any broken mods updated.
Eli Torres
never played fallout 4 and I probably wont ever because it needs some fucking 5GB mandatory patch of shit they didnt put on the fucking disc the fucking scumbags. "Ohhhh thats all games now because they press the discs before..." yeah, fuck off with your shit.
All I know is you have to find a kid or some shit, but who gives a fuck about the kid its a fucking game. id download a mod to kill the fucking kid. Fuck me, I hate the way games are getting more and more deluded that they think they are real life. New Vegas 4 life cunts.
Kayden Cruz
fallout 4 is shit but did you really have to post so much autism in a single post
Oliver Gomez
No, it's pretty easy to actually. Sorry that your imagination is so limited.
Joseph Rodriguez
What?
Jayden Davis
>Implying you own anything when using BETHESDA's tools
Hey, I don't like it either. But they're legally allowed to steal entire mods and claim them as their own creation.
Xavier Sanchez
I played it only because it was the only new game I had and u broke my leg and was off work. I kind of enjoyed some parts, like goodneighbour and exploring some parts but it was quite shit in retrospect
