A MILLION SHADES OF LIGHT

It's shards, dumbass.

f-fuck

No, it's shades. You're thinking of FFVII.

By the way, why the fuck did they waste time on these anime rejects instead of finishing the game?

Don't remind me

>Game wastes half of disc one on Rico and Billy.
>We could have had cool shit like the human mutations instead.

>ramsus and his personal battle harem get off 100% scot-free

He got his comeuppance in Xenosaga.

This, holy shit. Or the dungeon where it's just Emeralda and Elly, i'd have loved to see that fully fleshed out.

I'm still not sure if this is a Gurren Lagann picture or a Xenogears picture

Pretty sure it's Gurren Lagann. Fits Xenogears like a glove though

...

Pretty much everything from Id kicking everyone's shit in the desert to the gang climbing Babel is straight fluff. If they just had Elly and Fei drift at sea, end up at the orphanage, and head up the tower with Billy to meet everyone in Shevat, there'd be time to actually make the important half of the game.

>Taking Citan's mech at any point where you don't have to.

This sounds much better actually. Shame we'll never have a remake of sorts.

Citan a shit

Would be great if the wiki detailed on the connections between gears and saga better.
Having played the prior and the latter having bored me to tears in the tutorial stage, I have no idea what happened to the cast.

I'd like to see this too.

She was my favorite of the elements group.

Short version: Fucking nothing.

Long version: Episode I is a shitshow. The first half is getting the cast together and relating backstory until the protagonists kill a Ramsus ripoff and get a vague objective from a spoopy ghost lady. The second half is vague foreshadowing and a series of roadblocks stopping the crew from getting to the start of the story.

In Episode II, the story actually starts. The crew gets where they were going and their MacGuffin is stolen. This occurs in the span of ~10 hours, which are mostly diving into memories for MORE BACKSTORY. Also, the game opens in an hour long flashback. The rest of the game is yet more foreshadowing and roadblocks in getting where people need to go.

Episode III is where shit actually happens, and it's filled with shallow Xenogears cameos and references in a desperate attempt to court sales.
The only tie to Xenogears with any substance is the Ramsus ripoff in I. The game gives us massive backstory dumps that try to convey more of what Takahashi eventually wanted to reveal about Ramsus' character, but it's ham-handed and comedically melodramatic. His segment ends with the implication that the protagonist is doomed to a sort of mix of nihilism and purgatory, but Xenosaga drops plot points like they're going out of style so that shit never comes up again.

Not the user who asked, but holy shit that's disappointing. Should i even bother playing it?

The problem with Xenogears is like with most Takahashi projects

His designs were too grand and/or he had crappy sponsors.
Really, looking back, it is no wonder he doesn't want to return to Xenosaga due to the fact of all of the shit he had to deal with during its production.

Glad he found a nice dev like Nintendo though. Hope he follows through on his word that XCX was just a test bed for the engine.

No.
No.
Fucking no.

3 is a decent RPG, but the other two are horrible and Takahashi and Saga were both taken off of story writing by 2. I am not exaggerating when I say that the first ten hours of both I and II are nothing but exposition and flashbacks. The games are constantly searching for excuses to throw you into the past and slowly reveal details instead of starting the fucking story IN the past and progressing naturally.

If you want to, watch the cutscenes for 1 and 2. It's still fucking long and dull, but at least you can put it at 1.5x speed to compensate for the slow...drawn out deliiiveerry of the...dub.

If you care, play 3. Trust me, you aren't missing anything except the cool soundtrack from 2.

Even for a beta test, the game felt stripped down.

Yeah, sounds like it's not worth at all just for the references. Will still give it a go when i have the time.

Back in the day I was fucking obsessed with Elly

Even though there's not much art of them, those few ones sure are pretty

When a Wave Existence makes you a waifu, you better believe she is top tier waifu material

>waifu
>not mother

Mother figures can be waifus!

>You will never help populate the world with your mother figure

Xenosaga is very much in the same vein as other flawed PS2 JRPGs like Final Fantasy X and the Tales games. It's all about being big and long and having twists instead of being competent or engaging.

Episode I prioritized an in-game TCG over finishing all the party members and actually hitting all the story beats. That should tell you everything.

Or than Namco fucked over Takahashi during Xenosaga

Man, it hit Saga the hardest. She had a horrible time during that era

>tfw no lewds of them

One of the best Xenoblade tracks, so comfy
