I never got into it when i played but i always wanted to.
Haven't played Pokemon since Diamond and Pearl and im going to jump back with Sun and Moon so I might look into it.

Farming/Breeding is tedious and takes more time for me to bother.

Give me mans, I train them up to 50 and I'm good but hatching dozens of eggs for some stat bullshit has nothing to do with pvp.

The existence of competitive Pokemon proves you wrong

In Gen V, a lot of Pokemon got an extra hidden ability which could only be obtained by specific methods. Ninetales managed to get Drought as its hidden ability (and Politoed managed to get Drizzle). Both Pokemon went straight up to the OU tier. In Gen VI, rather than make a move that dispels the weather, Game Freak decided to nerf all weather abilities to make them only last for 5 turns (8 if holding the correct weather enhancing item).

I think removing half of the options available reduces the potential.

Which is why you get a team full of sweepers with different element attacks rather than a varied team of pokemon with stat based moves that benefit the team

It's not like stat based moves are anything different than already exists.

Competitive pokemon has always been a fucking joke surviving on the shoulders of thousands of autists who are willing to eat this shit up.

The balance is nonexistent. Official tournaments even with their limited draft rarely see more than 10 pokemon used in top play. With only alternative being Smogon autism which is Brawl tier in terms of how many arbitrary rules it applies and will NEVER get big.

It is also fucking impossible to play pokemon competitively or semi-competitively without engaging with actual community. The game simply does not let you to filter cheaters and faggots with full legendary teams properly.

On TOP of that the game is so fucking RNG heavy it's not even funny

>can crit
>can randomly apply confusion
>which lasts for a random amount of turns
>and randomly forces you to do nothing or hit yourself
And then you have a shit ton of straight out RPS situations with switching etc when you win or lose based on the most basic 50-50 guesses that are not negated by execution, matchup knowledge etc.


In short, fuck competitive pokemon. I really fucking wish gamefreak would COMPLETELY overhaul that game but they won't.

Better abilities like sunny day and rain dance to stack offense/speed multipliers. Great stats.

The stat distribution and move pools are so wildly out of line they render most pokemon unusable so you end up seeing the same horse shit 24/7

It used to be so bad that they had to blanket ban any combination of using Politoed with a Swift Swim team

Tyranitar has stuck around because it's competent in addition to its ability, Politoed and Ninetales were literally just filled party slots to start weather
