Which 3DS Monster Hunter game should I get, Sup Forums? 3U, 4U, or Generations?
I'm looking for a game that I can sink hundreds of hours in to without getting bored.

i can get 4U for 10 bucks. is it worth the price? and is it playable on 2DS?

get MH4U if you can't afford Generations. otherwise get generations.

You can play it on 2DS, but you will have a hard time.
I'm playing it on a New 3DS Xl with the additional shoulder buttons being mapped to the camera (left/right).

Is this your first monster hunter? This is like, THE biggest timesink on handhelds. Best thing is they actually require you to git gud, and they only get more fun the further into them you get.

MH4U is amazing as I sank 260 hours into it and felt like I got far but could have done so much more. Gen is even better and I am only 20 hours into it. I wouldn't recommend playing on a 2DS due to the control scheme, but it should be possible.
MH4U and Gen are some of the few 3DS games that actually run and look better on the New 3DS. Even has better textures

How to remap buttons?

MH3U is definitely the best out of the three but the lack of online in the 3DS version might not make it the best choice for someone's first MH.

They have different monsters. 4U has more monsters from 4th Gen and 1st Gen (Nerscylla, Dalamadur, Da'hren Mohran, Gogmazios, Gravios, Diablos, Fatalis, etc) while Gen brings back monsters from older generations (such as 3rd gen and 2nd Gen, such as Amatsu, Agnaktor, Lavasioth, Blangonga, Lagiacrus, etc. which 4U lacks) Seltas Queen is in both 4U and Gen.

Don't forget that a lot of the monsters in Gen are unchanged ones from 1 and 2. And they haven't aged well, especially shit like Bulldrome. The new monsters are mostly pretty good though. Melfestio is kind of annoying though.

There's nothing inherently wrong with them, but pallette-swaps with slightly adjusted movesets is still kind of lazy. And it's not as if the series doesn't already suffer from that kind of thing as is, even among supposedly unique monster types.

I've beat all the available 5* town quests, how do I unlock other key quests

There are 3* requests that each of the village leaders ask you to do.

Do those and you until the urgent.

You could try Kiranico, all the key quests are shown.

You can trivilialise him with Adept/Aerial anything, pretty much. He's not actually hard, the biggest threat with Bulldrome is being blindsided by Bullfango. Doesn't make him any less shit with a limited and dull moveset.
