It's just what I've read from other threads.

Played it through an old PSN code I bought online months ago. It's a pretty "meh" beat-em-up, with some gorgeous art style of course. Single player is bland, multiplayer is confusing. I don't know what to think, just dropped after the 3rd level.

Music and graphics are worse and there's a pathetic "magical animu maid girl princess" kind of setting going on, but the gameplay at least has more depth and a difference between characters that SP didn't have.

I just played through Scott Pilgrim. Art is great. Music is great. The actual game is shit.

Enemies constantly block. It's only playable if you use cheat codes to level your character up prematurely and use the sword. That makes the game too easy.

Its progress. The ps3 is a complex system. Emulation at this stage and this far in is impressive for how few are actually contributing to the project.

Its no longer a matter of power of a system to emulate. We've gone far beyond that. Its now a matter of can we actually make any open source emulators that are essentially rewrites of a gaming system? Ps1? Sure. GameCube? Sure. Dreamcast? Sure. Xbox? We could but its cheap to get and easier to get working with or without mods than an emulator due to its weird and obscure hardware so nobody bothers.

360 and PS3 emulators in there current state show insane progress. They're essentially recreating an entire console, minus hardware. This is by no means a task that can be done easily.

RPCS3 and Xenia are the best we have.

Ubi-Soft sub-licenced the rights from Universal Pictures to tie it in with the movie and promote both (The DVD version was even supposed to include a code for Knives as DLC till everything got delayed). The licensing deal with Universal Pictures ran out on Ubi-Softs end and the game was pulled. Because the deal was based on the movie rights and not the comic. The rights were a clusterfuck since it would require the co-operation of Ubisoft and Universal Pictures. That's where O' Malley is running into issues because Ubi-Soft owns the game and it was licenced from Universal Pictures. That's what they have to work through.

This was a problem in Castle Crashers as well, and it is the absolute biggest gripe I have about modern Beatemups. It trivializes earlier stages when you're overleveled, and it makes later stages flat out unfun if you're underleveled, making skill almost pointless. I despise it when they lock moves behind levels as well, as I feel like I'm crippled in the early parts.

Why do gamers/game devs think this is a good mechanic in a genre so focused on testing the player's skill?
